Sitting on the Throne (Oloro EDH)

Oloro lifegain edh deck. Tries to produce and take advantage of many small life gain triggers (ex: Authority of the Consuls with Cliffhaven Vampire or Well of Lost Dreams ) and then use life as a resource for value (ex: Font of Agonies or Necropotence ). You gain a ton of incidental life just by surviving and playing random stuff so people might try to throw a lot of chip damage at you, but you gain so much you really don't need to care. Just keep using incremental damage and card draw to keep ahead of the table and slowly work towards finding a game winning play; it's usually Aetherflux Reservoir or Sanguine Bond .

Because Oloro's life gain triggers from the command zone it is a bit of a waste to actually play him, but if you didn't find any of the other card draw sources in the deck his ability is really solid and you shouldn't be afraid to skootch his chair onto the battlefield. It does mean however that if he gets removed, as long as you drew into another draw source while he was around, you really never need to play him again because almost all of the draw sources in the deck are repeatable netting you a ton of cards if you find even one of them.

The deck also has a few versions of the Exquisite Blood combo using Cliffhaven Vampire , Epicure of Blood , Defiant Bloodlord , or the traditional Sanguine Bond . It can even come out turn 3 using Cliffhaven Vampire + Exquisite Blood and a turn 1 sol ring as long as the vamp can do combat damage to a player to start the combo off. Everything else in the deck is pretty slow though. A particularly good value combo to keep in mind when the chair is sitting on the battlefield is Oloro, Ageless Ascetic + Pristine Talisman . The mana rock simultaneously triggers and pays for oloro's card draw ability letting its tap ability actually read "each opponent loses 1 life, you gain 1 life and draw a card", pretty sweet.

I also really wanted the deck to use Archangel of Thune and Victory's Herald , but it just doesn't go wide enough to justify either. Crested Sunmare isn't fantastic either since I have few reliable ways to gain life outside my own turn as this is built. These three work fantastically together, but not with the rest of the deck. They have been swapped out for taxing cards like Breathstealer's Crypt to help kill people faster while sticking to the slow burn game plan.

The deck didn't have much (~9 sources ) that actually triggered off of the 28 sources of lifegain I included. So I shifted this by adding Archangel of Thune and Angelic Accord back into the deck, replacing Elixir of Immortality and Congregate. Shuffle effects didn't synergize well with my new recusion cards like Phyrexian Reclamation and congregate really only helped when 1 shotting people with Sanguine Bond so I thought I'd try living without it; I still have Blighted Steppe anyway. Similarly Devious Cover-Up was replaced by Stoic Rebuttal. Mana rocks will trigger metalcraft sometimes and otherwise it's at least 1 mana cheaper.

Also Psychosis Crawler exists, but probably not for long. I noticed a lot of the substantial "card draw" I wanted it to synergize with were actually various replacement effects. Paid for it though so I'm still gonna test it out. I lied, I bit the bullet and he's gone. Ironically replaced for real card draw with Dawn of Hope.
