Traveling in a fried-out Kombi
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me real nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
She said:
"Do you come from a land down under
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover"

...And you thought this was going to be a Dolly Parton tribute?

We're going down under... and we're going to plunder. Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover...

This is a Gruul treasures build designed to hit very hard and very fast. We'll be making tons of treasures, drawing tons of cards, and smashing our opponents with hasty, double powered, double striking, flying creatures. I've decided to keep this deck somewhat lean on removal and protection spells, in favor of a more glass cannon approach that will get the job done before our opponents have a chance to stop the value train. Just as any good treasures build should, this deck features some of the best dragons in the game. All accompanied by their favorite berserker dwarf and hidden commander Magda, Brazen Outlaw. Enjoy!

The main strategy of this deck is attacking in with a 2/2 zombie. Hopefully our opponents don't block with an ape look like Harambe...

The actual main strategy of this deck is quite simple. Get Jo out early to start the value train rolling (hopefully turn 3) and then start swinging for value. Her first ability should incentivize our opponents to attack each other and keep the heat off ourselves while we can get setup. Once we've built up a small treasure hoard we can start dropping fatties to really get the value train moving. Once we've got a few heavy hitters on board and the value train is moving full speed ahead we can start digging for one of the many win-cons.

We can use Blast-Furnace Hellkite / Craterhoof Behemoth / Unnatural Growth to crush our opponents with combat damage. Burn them to the ground with Crackle with Power. Ping them to death with Ingenious Artillerist / Reckless Fireweaver. Win with an upkeep trigger on Hellkite Tyrant (which is very possible in this deck). Or we can get a few extra combats in with Scourge of the Throne.

The synergy of this deck doesn't in fact rely on drawing cards, but rather plunder... dredge 12 for huge value.

Defense of the Heart - Will grab Old Gnawbone / Goldspan Dragon or really whatever we need. Need draw grab Dragon Mage / Ohran Frostfang, need ramp grab Old Gnawbone / Goldspan Dragon, need both grab one of each.

Genesis Wave This card is so busted when cast for 10+ mana. Will almost always win you the game when cast for 10 or more.

Magda, Brazen Outlaw Will tutor any dragon straight to the battlefield at instant speed. Some of our best cards in the deck are dragons. We can very easily tutor a Hellkite Tyrant to the battlefield right before our upkeep and win the game with it's trigger. It's also not uncommon to tutor 3+ dragons to the field the same turn we cast Magda.

Hellkite Igniter For two mana we can this guy a huge boost.

Hellkite Tyrant Very easy to win with upkeep trigger.

Old Gnawbone Huge burst of treasures.

Parallel Lives Doubles all of our treasure production.

Second Harvest Doubles the amount of treasures we already have.

The Reaver Cleaver Another huge burst of treasures.

Xorn Same effect as our commander for back up.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite / Scourge of the Throne / Unnatural Growth Any one of these on it's own can end the game quickly but having two or all three on the battlefield is just GG.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite + Ancient Copper Dragon Roll twice.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite + Old Gnawbone Even more treasures.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite + Professional Face-Breaker More treasures.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite + The Reaver Cleaver Even more treasures.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite + Unnatural Growth Much damage.

Blast-Furnace Hellkite + Unnatural Growth + Craterhoof Behemoth GG.

Bootleggers' Stash + Goldspan Dragon Two mana off each treasure from tapping a land.

Bootleggers' Stash + Jolene, the Plunder Queen Two treasures for each land basically doubling our mana.

Bootleggers' Stash + Goldspan Dragon + Jolene, the Plunder Queen Two treasures for each land tapped, but then each treasure cracks for two means our lands are basically tapping for four each.

Hellkite Igniter + The Reaver Cleaver Crazy amounts of treasures and damage.

Hellkite Igniter + Old Gnawbone Crazy amounts of treasures and damage

Hellkite Igniter + Unnatural Growth Crazy amounts of damage.

Ingenious Artillerist / Reckless Fireweaver + Second Harvest Lots of damage with treasures already in play.

Ingenious Artillerist / Reckless Fireweaver + Treasure Vault Gives us damage for mana.

Ingenious Artillerist / Reckless Fireweaver + Ancient Copper Dragon / Bootleggers' Stash / Cavern-Hoard Dragon / Dockside Extortionist / Hoard Hauler / Old Gnawbone / The Reaver Cleaver Any combination of these should be enough to quickly end the game with direct damage.

Parallel Lives + Pest Infestation Lots of pests.

Parallel Lives + Second Harvest Quadruple the amount of treasure we have in play.

Parallel Lives + Second Harvest + Pest Infestation Even more pests.

Scourge of the Throne + Old Gnawbone Double the amount of treasures.

Scourge of the Throne + Ancient Copper Dragon Roll twice.

Scourge of the Throne + Professional Face-Breaker More treasures.

Scourge of the Throne + Balefire Dragon Basically a board wipe.

Scourge of the Throne + Steel Hellkite Basically a boardwipe.

Terror of the Peaks + Pest Infestation Lots of pinging.

Terror of the Peaks + Pest Infestation + Parallel Lives Even more pinging.

Tireless Provisioner + Genesis Wave We get treasures when lands come in.

Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre + Reforge the Soul / Dragon Mage We get the shuffle everything we just discarded back into our library. Not too mention anything else that was removed from the battlefield allowing us to draw it or tutor it again.

Unnatural Growth + Old Gnawbone Gives us double the amount of treasures.

There are so many overlapping pieces that just stack crazy amounts of value in this deck, it's hard to list them all, but I think you get the idea.

Work in progress. First attempt at a Gruul build/ first attempt at a treasure build. Would love to hear your thoughts on what I'm missing/ how I can make this better.

Updates Add

Haven't updated this deck for awhile so I decided to take another look and made some spicy upgrades.

OUT: Gadrak, the Crown-Scourge / Inferno of the Star Mounts / Starstorm / Seize the Spotlight / Savage Twister / Animist's Awakening / Worldspine Wurm / Lifeblood Hydra / Rogue's Passage / Fyndhorn Elves.

IN: Reforge the Soul / Cavern-Hoard Dragon / Comet Storm / Ingenious Artillerist / The Reaver Cleaver / Blast-Furnace Hellkite / Ancient Copper Dragon / Dragon Mage / Bala Ged Recovery  Flip / Magda, Brazen Outlaw

All of these changes were made in an attempt to make the deck hit even harder and even faster while still staying true to the treasures theme. Gadrak, the Crown-Scourge was somewhat lackluster and felt slow, while Ingenious Artillerist is just another Reckless Fireweaver. Both of which are all stars and have won many games. Cavern-Hoard Dragon is a strict upgrade over Inferno of the Star Mounts in every way. Comet Storm is significantly better than Starstorm allowing us to chose individual targets when we have enough mana for the kicker (which we always will). Seize the Spotlight was hard to pull and having Reforge the Soul in it's spot will require more playtesting, but the thought here is that it will be more consistent. Opponents will almost always rather give a creature than a card and two treasures. Sucks to loose a piece of removal pulling Savage Twister, but The Reaver Cleaver is just too damn good. Blast-Furnace Hellkite replaced Animist's Awakening for more ways to help close out games and the awakening has been disappointing almost every time I've cast it. Ancient Copper Dragon over Worldspine Wurm. Doesn't hit as hard but synergizes with the deck so much more. Dragon Mage will be taking the place of Lifeblood Hydra much for the same reason that Reforge the Soul replaced Seize the Spotlight. I want my cards now. Not later. Rogue's Passage never gets used in any of my decks anymore because there's always something better to spend 5 mana on. Especially if everything already has trample or flying. Bala Ged Recovery  Flip will just be better utility for when our key pieces inevitably get removed. Last but not least we pulled Fyndhorn Elves for Magda, Brazen Outlaw. Sucks to loose a dork and some speed but Magda is just too damn good. Especially with all the dragon additions and some of our other best cards in the deck being artifacts. She can very easily be cast and then activated 3 times in a single turn grabbing 3 of our best dragons straight to the field. So good.
