Hey man, just a heads up - Bond of Agony doesn't quite work here. For example let's say you pay 20 life with Blood Celebrant, activate Rowan, Scion of War's ability and cast Bond of Agony where X = 20. You'll still have to pay another 20 life as an additional cost. Not very good at all.

Also, have you considered Plunge into Darkness or Spoils of the Vault here? With cards like Torment of Hailfire & Crackle with Power in the mix, they're 1-card wincons here. Vampiric Tutor, Grim Tutor & Cruel Tutor also have some serious added benefit with this one.

No, Rowan, Scion of War is reducing each individual spells cost by an amount of colourless mana - the X in the spells you then cast are irrelevant towards calculating that reduction.

For example, if you lose 3 life in a turn, and then tap Rowan, Scion of War for its ability, your black and/or red spells will now all cost {3} less to cast. In the case of Crackle with Power that would mean you could pay {R}{R} and have X=1. Or pay {R}{R}{R}{R}{R} and have X=2.

As an additional note, pinging yourself with Necropotence definitely doesn't do what you think it does - though I'm not entirely sure how you think it works. The ability of Necropotence to pay 1 life is entirely irrelevant to whether you take damage from other sources. So if you target yourself with Crackle with Power, Necropotence doesn't do anything (as you're not paying its ability cost, you're just burning yourself for no reason)

You can use double square brackets around a card's name to create a reference link. It's the best way to make sure everyone understands what's going on in your question: Crackle with Power, Narset, Enlightened Exile, Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

Unfortunately this doesn't work. If a spell has X in its cost but you cast it for an alternative cost that doesn't include X ("without paying its mana cost" is a special kind of alternative cost) then the only legal choice for X is zero. In your example you won't be able to choose any targets for Crackle with Power.

EchoSpice Hey thanks for the tip! That sounds pretty spicy. I love the rawness of Krenko in that there are many decks that do the infinite thing and he just likes to SMACK lol. I have had several decks working the Ashnod's and others, looking to get away. Funny enough, I've been brewing for a Crackle with Power combo deck recently w/the same effect XD.

Though, come to think of it--Dualcaster Mage + Heat Shimmer could do both more efficiently... Enough rambling -- Cheers!

thefiresoflurve, thank you very much! I could cut the deck down to 100 because of your helpful suggestions. I had Glacial Chasm as a way to stall to cast Crackle with Power by using the "mystic-top" combo to put a bunch of artifacts out to help pay {X} and to find Crackle if I did not have it already. I will cut it because the deck focuses more on combat, and the chances of successfully doing that are slim. I had Clown Car in there because I thought it would be fun. Also, I could cast it for zero or potentially make an army of chumps, so maybe I could swap it occasionally for Ornithopter.
