Personal and playgroup notes Show

I’ve been playing magic since the beginning of Ice Age and had 2 breaks from the game between then and now. The 1st break was during Onslaught and Odyssey block, the 2nd one was between Fifth Dawn and Kamikawa Block. My playgroup started playing Commander when the first commanderdecks came available and we sticked to this format since then. We sometimes play my cube, a draft or some of us attend a pre-release, but mainly we play Commander. Since I have a fairly large collection of decks and a cube to maintain, i’m not always up to date with tuning my decks. Actually, most of the time they are not updated with new cards, since I only play about twice a month and family life tends to take a toll on hobbies.

Playgroup

I play casual Commander in a group of about a dozen persons, some of which I have been playing with since Alliances. Usually we play games with 3-6 players. The Commander format can vary between Free for all, teams, opposite allies, hidden allies, everyone vs VanderW, or... basicly anything. This variance is something I take into consideration when designing decks.

Houserules

We have a few house rules, which are based on the idea a game should potentially be fun for everyone. First, we aim at not to build decks which have the intention of finding or abusing infinite combo’s. The idea behind this, is that we want people to try and play their decks, no matter how tuned or casual it is without having to worry someone will end the game without any interaction. This also prevents players from starting an arms race, where the first deck to combo off wins and finally prevents players from filling up on counterspells to prevent decks from comboing to an easy win. Second, we don’t play all cards. Some cards we consider a no-go, where others are frowned apon. Basicly, we want to prevent ‘easy wins’ or time-consuming stalling. For this reason you wont find some cards in our lists. When combo’s are possible due to cards just being in a deck, we tend to not use them, or play them together.

No-go cards: Mass land destruction. For example Armageddon , Impending Disaster

Easy lock: Contamination

Easy combo, for example: Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Curiosity

Frowned apon: Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur , Constant Mists

The deck

This is a casual Jeskai Commander deck, since at the time of constructing the available Commanders didn’t really fulfill my needs, i initially chose General Tazri as the Commander. She was replaced by Kenrith when the king made his appearance. The deck focusses on tutors to find come into play and copy effects. The main goal tends to be finding Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and to abuse his effect to search for or duplicate the abilities you need.

The deck can have a slow start and struggle against more aggressive decks, but once on a roll it tends to find answers to manage most threats and it becomes hard to deal with.

Interactions

As noted Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker is the card that gives most profit, since he abuses all the come into play effects. Find Kiki-Jiki with a creature tutor like Recruiter of the Guard and use kiki on the tutor to find almost whatever you want.

Reveillark , Karmic Guide and Loyal Retainers can be used to bring Kiki back from the graveyard. And Feldon of the Third Path serves the role of Kiki for creatures in the graveyard.

To take full advantage of the tutors and Reveillark I try to keep most creatures in the 2 power/toughness zone, so I have a large variety of tutorable come into play abilities available.

Infinites

The deck has several infinites, which I dont use. Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Zealous Conscripts Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Restoration Angel
