Rathi Trapper

Creature — Human Rebel Rogue

king-saproling on Zur's Rebellion ($20 Budget)

This is really impressive! Super unique and interesting deck for such a tight budget. Zur and the enchantments he can grab provide a really nice framework for rebels to thrive in. Great idea!

What do you think of Verity Circle + Blind Obedience? Could even toss in a Rathi Trapper or Errant Doomsayers for an extra draw per round while disrupting opps. Amoeboid Changeling + Rebel Informer is another fun Rebel-themed control engine.

You might like these too: Bound in Silence, Oppression, Kaho, Minamo Historian, Crib Swap (can be recycled with Lin Sivvi!), Nameless Inversion, Curator's Ward, Flickerform, Coalition Flag, Mirrormade. It's a shame Training Grounds is so pricey, but maybe it'll get a reprint someday?

Ah, what a rookie mistake!

That's some good advice, thanks.

I don't want to drop too much cash on this, but Gideon's Avenger and Sunblast Angel from your deck look like they'd be useful.

Deathbringer Liege may work if I chuck in a couple of cheap black instants to support it, like Midnight Charm and Rathi Trapper , or simply Terror . It might be wise to ditch the 2x Frost Titan for the sake of the mana curve and to accommodate black / white creatures instead.

I guess if I wanted to make something based on the Scythe then Deathtouch and forced blocking would be the way to go, and/or creatures that have abilities to deal damage like Jagged-Scar Archers , Femeref Archers , or Tahngarth, Talruum Hero (or any number of red creatures). Totally different deck, but it's something to work on.

Relic hits all graveyards (See Scavenging Ooze and Tarmogoyf ) and has the ability to continuously keep a graveyard empty.

I'm looking at where to possibly mainboard Rathi Trapper . Not only can he cheaply remove a blocker, but also stall until Assassin's Trophy or Livewire Lash comes online, and can also lockdown many of the "win" creatures Tron decks run, like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn , as well as providing more answers to other infect decks with Blighted Agent

Yes, Damping Sphere looks good.

Collected Company could be interesting, but at CMC 4 it probably won't see a lot of play. Might be worth testing. I'm not usually short of drawing creatures, so Incubation doesn't get me much, when it could have just been a creature.

VesuvanDoppelbanger on Decks Out for Horobi

Looks like fun! What about a Rathi Trapper for re-usable targeting ability? Even if Horobi isn't online, it's useful to tap down threats.

Von.Banamaor on UB Mana tax

I am building my own pauper taxing deck based on an old, old deck I once played with using Errant Minion and Winter Orb. I thought I'd see what I could do with a pauper variant. Here is a link to my deck: A Tax to Grind

To start off, I really like what you have going here.

A few suggestions...

Right off, I think you should consider Errant Minion for reasons I don't think I need to explain. Perhaps in place of Soul Barrier?

Most cards in pauper are very cheap and lots of decks are very thin on mana production as a result, so playing Rhystic Study can be a huge burden. Playing more than one, is almost unfair. Plus, you should really have some card drawing ability.

Here are some other ways to consider tapping creatures: Flood, Rhystic Deluge, Norritt & Rathi Trapper.

Shimmering Glasskite might be an interesting creature to consider as well. It'll be hard for your opponent to cast two creature-hate spells in a turn.

You might want to consider Fade Away for the sideboard if too many creatures are hitting the table.

And one last note, if you were to splash green, Kruphix's Insight and Aura Gnarlid would be brutal.

Cuts:

Banshee. Black has much better options for this effect, like Exsanguinate.
Crenellated Wall. Not worth that effect.
Leaden Myr. Creatures that ramp you aren't as good as mana rocks.
Master of the Feast is only good in 60-card formats, because he presents an early 4-turn clock. In EDH, that card draw he gives your opponents will kill you long before he can threaten anyone's life.
Nefashu can only clear out a few of the weakest creatures you'll face, and will be eaten alive by most EDH creatures.
Mogis's Marauder and Orc Sureshot are only good if you're playing a mass resurrection or mass token type deck, since they both require a large number of creatures to enter the same turn they do to get full effect. Cut them.
Rathi Trapper has a mediocre ability at best.

Stay tuned for part two: artifacts.
