Livewire Lash

Artifact — Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has "Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell, this creature deals 2 damage to any target (creature, player or planeswalker)."

Equip (: Attach this to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature this card is attached to leaves the battlefield.)

Icaruskid on Imagine Dragons | Budget Rosnakht [PRIMER]

Hey hey khayoz!

I went all in on go wide as my first version. It had all the Heroic spells and concentrated on buff and damage spells, no voltron:

Buff:
Metallic Mimic
Roar of Resistance
Heraldic Banner
Coat of Arms
Shared Animosity
Obelisk of Urd
Signal Pest
Konda's Banner
Eldrazi Monument
Dynacharge
Weapon Surge
Ogre Battledriver

Damage:
Throne of the God-Pharaoh
Hellrider
Impact Tremors
Witty Roastmaster
Livewire Lash

It played pretty well. Board wipes were absolutely the killer. The game becomes adding the right amount of creatures and damage without overextending. Also sometimes my little kobolds were outclassed by more powerful creatures and couldn't attack. I could have added Dolmen Gate and evasion but then we are leaving my playgroup's budget behind. This is where I discovered Descent of the Dragons and thought it would be a great finisher that's also a "buff" spell and on theme. Then that led me to Transmogrify and I've never looked back.

But the overlap approach can do work. Like Draconic Destiny adds to your voltron threat but it also enables Rosnakht to attack giving the kobolds the buff they desperately need. Dynacharge and Weapon Surge are modal so you can buff the whole team or sneak in a voltron kill.

I haven't tested all in voltron. But indestructibility might be important. Mithril Coat, Darksteel Plate, Commander's Plate, and Hammer of Nazahn might be worth a try. I just wanted something with more sizzle, style wise.

Hope this helps! Let me know what you learn!

It looks like you’re going for a budget deck. A budget upgrade would be replacing x4 Plains with x4 Flagstones of Trokair These will help thin your deck out in mid to late game.

Fabled Hero also seems a little slow to run as a 4 of. A little more pricey upgrade would be replacing it with x4 Kor Spiritdancer adding card advantage from cast triggers of auras. She’s not heroic, but her ability feels similar.

Livewire Lash is another cut. I think the “shock” effect can be useful, but cards like Hyena Umbra, Sentinel's Eyes, Ethereal Armor would all be choice upgrades as a x1, x2, or x3 of any combination in its place.

Past that a sideboard can be extremely useful in modern. A fairly standard sideboard for the current meta that is fairly budget is.

4x Mana Tithe 4x Pithing Needle 4x Damping Sphere 3x Tormod's Crypt Or 3x Stone of Erech

Hope any of these suggestions helped!

Some thoughts:

  • Livewire Lash does nothing for your here - equipment won’t trigger your creatures as paying an equip cost is not “a spell targeting a creature”. Added to that this card is pretty weak anyway.

  • you have way too many creatures for a deck that cares about spells - i’d be ditching Dawnbringer Charioteers and Fabled Hero at the very least.

  • you currently have almost no way to mess with the opponents board state, which puts you in a really dangerous position, as your deck is slow and they’ll just be able to overwhelm you. I’d suggest at least 8 cards being dedicated to removal.

Looking good. I built Shelob as a fight deck myself.

I found some Tech cards I really like in the deck:

Orochi Leafcaller helps to sometimes use abilities of the copies. Tough Cookie and Alloy Animist can turn the copies into creatures. Oh, and Livewire Lash is absurd with Shelob and some fight spells.

Finally, I've found spells such as Snakeskin Veil and Supernatural Stamina to be very powerful with Ward abilities. Your Shelob will sometimes be hit with a Path for , and having something to give her Hexproof right then can sometimes put you in a great spot.

I definitely like that Leering Emblem and Livewire Lash. I had sunforger in the deck for a while, but I was drawing so consistently I didn't need to tutor for any specific spell. I WAS thinking about possibly adding a powerful creature in here, but I didn't see any worthwhile creatures to grab other then maybe Elesh Norn, since I have a few etbs. But yea I agree, I may need to look into my spells again, just to see if I can tweak them as well

I would suggest more equipment then. Sunforger, Leering Emblem, Livewire Lash, Runechanter's Pike and Blackblade Reforged would be some good cards.
