Hi there! I'm Noah, a West Coast-living, East Coast-raised Magic player and all-around nerd. I started playing when my sister got me a Portal 2A starter set, and quit shortly after the Urza's block... Mostly, I think, because I was too young to really understand the rules of the game. I got back into Magic briefly for the Zendikar Block, which remains my favorite block ever. My first Planeswalker was a Nissa Revane. She's therefore (and because she's awesome) my favorite Planeswalker, and I'm extraordinarily happy that she's gone from one card to four over the past year+. I'm currently working on collecting all the Angels ever printed... Good luck, amirite?

I love EDH- my first deck was an out-of-the-box Oloro deck that I morphed over time into a real powerhouse, until I had to sell it off... Since then, I've built Savra, Queen of the Golgari, Sidisi, Brood Tyrant, Omnath, Locus of Rage, Daxos the Returned, Nahiri, the Lithomancer, General Jarkeld, Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, Sigarda, Host of Herons, Infernal Kirin (for Star EDH), Toshiro Umezawa, Atraxa, Praetors' Voice, Breya, Etherium Shaper, Neheb, the Eternal, Keranos, God of Storms, and many others. If you'd like help deckbuilding, I'm always down to look over deck lists and I love making suggestions. I'm also beginning a new Article Series called COMMANDER AND CONQUER, and I'd love to feature your EDH decks! Post below, and be sure to mention if you want suggestions, or are submitting as a CAC deck. Or both!

Compare the wording of Chandra's ability to cards like Etrata, the Silencer and Karn, Scion of Urza, which DO care about cards exiled previously. Etrata and Karn place counters with their abilities, so that they can refer to the counters the ability creates when using those cards later.

If you plus Chandra, Heart of Fire you discard your hand, then exile three cards. You can cast those cards until the end of the turn.

Once you end your turn, any/all cards exiled by Chandra that you have not yet cast, will remain exiled, and you will have lost your chance to cast them.

If you activate her a second time, on your next turn, you will get a fresh 3 cards exiled, but you will not be able to cast the previous cards; "exiled this way" in this case refers to the specific activation of Chandra, not to her +1 ability in general.

Definitely looking to test out Feed the Swarm, enchantment removal is gonna be nice to finally have access too, even if it's only sorcery speed.

I'm also going to test out Malakir Rebirth  Flip and Soul Shatter, since those are both effects I'd love more of in the deck.

Huh. I hadn't thought about Karn, Silver Golem. That's not a bad idea at all, and worst case when there's nothing to use his ability on, he's still going to be an above-average blocker. I'm hesitant because he does cost 5 mana, and at that rate I do want a card that's a bit more guaranteed, but given that black struggles with artifact removal, he may be worth the risk of occasionally having an expensive defender. I'll see if I can test him out soon.

Ehhhhhh. Lithoform Engine is not as good as people seem to think it will be. It's... fine. But I'm never tapping out to play it without holding removal up in the early game. Late game, I'll need 9 or more mana to play this, cast a spell, and then copy it... when my three mana commander lets me effectively copy any number of my kill spells already, without tapping and with no extra mana investment. Also, 3 mana copy a spell is really not that great a rate. The best case scenario for Lithoform Engine (in most decks, not just this one) is really good, but the floor is really, really low, and on average I think it'll be a 4 mana rock that doesn't do enough. Much like Helm of the Host or The Immortal Sun, I think this is a card that looks good, has good text, and just shouldn't see play really at all except maybe in very specific decks that are very tuned around copying

Rage is my favorite so far, but Creation looks sweet and I'm somewhat tempted to rebuild my Rage deck as a Creation deck.

Restrictions are a great way to work around this - self-impose a certain tribe (I've build scout tribal, elemental tribal [before it was cool], cleric tribal [no shadowborns], etc.), or give yourself a CMC to build around (a friend of mine has a deck called "Ballet Bears" made up exclusively of 2/2's for 2 mana, and built a deck he called the "Triple decker" of only three mana spells, and had both a wishboard and a contraption deck to be the other two decks), or perhaps choose an obscure commander to tune to perfection (one of my best decks is helmed by Toshiro Umezawa, chosen as an "I bet no one's run into this commander before"), or pick a powerful commander like Breya, Etherium Shaper, but build the deck with no tutors, only eggs that sacrifice to draw cards.

There's loads of ways to force yourself to get creative, which will all yield good decks that can hold their own without becoming cEDH decks.
