Archon of Valor's Reach Discussion

I play control/stax with Chulane. Been testing Archon of Valor's Reach .
For your build, Overrun is the way to go. Cut 2 lands, tweak a few of the miscellaneous creatures and you have a good list.

Season of Growth is one of my new favorite cards in my Enchantment deck--Especially If I'm running this many auras.
Additionally, Retether can make for one-shot commander knockouts after your commander gets burnt a couple times.
You should consider at least Unquestioned Authority for creature evasion if you're going for Voltron wins.
One Artifact means you should really punish people with artifacts: Stony Silence , Collector Ouphe , and Seeds of Innocence are all crushers for decks that rely on rock ramp spells. Archon of Valor's Reach is my favorite card in my bant enchantress deck. It does control effects on certain decks (I tend to pick instants or artifacts, but sorcery is a good pick if you're afraid of boardwipes. Planeswalker is only good against decks that are themed that way.) AND it doubles as a flying vigilance body to put auras on.
Finally, I don't think you need this many lands. Your curve is pretty low and you have a ton of ramp-chantments. A basic or three could probably get cut.

Very nice deck you got there. Please, allow me to give some input as a fellow cEDH player. First off, I see all stax cards in your deck there is but very few removals. Hence, I kindly would like to share some input on balancing the decks versatility.
Copperhorn Scout doesn't fly, is likely to die and doesn't add much to the deck since you already get to untap with your commander. I would rather suggest to instead add some removal in the form of Ulvenwald Tracker , which adds tremendous values combined with all the untaps
Ethersworn Canonist chances are that your opponents won't play a lot of spells due to Winter Orb ect... and you already got the best one of all ( Eidolon of Rhetoric ), therefore I would rather swap it for some better hate in cEDH which would be Spirit of the Labyrinth
Vryn Wingmare same goes here. I wouldn't play any stax pieces with CMC 3 or higher (too slow and you get better effects for same CMC). For 3 CMC can get Recruiter of the Guard , Eternal Witness , Knight of the Reliquary , Knight of Autumn , Banisher Priest / Fiend Hunter . Note: In your case I would go for removal effects, since you have only Gilded Drake . A Yisan deck would crush yours since it is not affected by stax (since it's a stax deck as well) and would tutor Ulvenwald Tracker and kill all your flyers and dorks.
Archon of Valor's Reach I think this is a classic win-more card which you don't really need to win the game. An alternative would be Gaddock Teeg . However, if you insist on having a high CMC mana drop that completely destroys the game board in your favor, I would like to introduce Willbreaker
Utopia Sprawl / Wild Growth : Since you are a creature deck I would much rather play the remaining mana dorks in order to have more hitters for untap triggers but more importantly, to not be affected by your own stax. Remaining dorks are: Boreal Druid , Priest of Titania ,
Nature's Claim since you are a creature deck and you will be slowing down the game tremendously, I strongly believe that Aura Shards is a better option to go with. It is recurrent and you are very light on removal. What can you do against a Cursed Totem or Humility ?
Tangle Wire I believe you don't really need this stax piece. It's one of the weakest and only holds up a very short time. Instead try for example Nature's Will - this has proven to be quite devastating. Or Living Plane if you seek to lock out all lands of your opponents together with Linvala, Keeper of Silence
Cyclonic Rift seems fine but could also be a win-more card. I presume you would cast this very late in the game and only as an emergency for 2 CMC. Hence, you can ask yourself if this card is really needed to win or if you perhaps would rather have another card that helps to set you up in the early game. I.e. Sylvan Tutor / Fauna Shaman ect...
I hope this was insightful to you. And no, I am not playing Derevi myself ;) But I do actually play a lot against it.

When Wrath of God is on the stack, it's already cast.
By casting Archon of Valor's Reach after, (when you have priority, it has resolved, and you choosing "sorcery"), you've effectively wasted it. Wrath of God is already on the stack and is going to resolve unless you can counter it.

If I have a way to flash in, or somehow cast Archon of Valor's Reach in response to my opponent casting Wrath of God , can I effectively shut down the Wrath of God by choosing "Sorcery" spells on its ETB?
Just trying to find a cheaper answer to board wipes than Avacyn, Angel of Hope as is often used in NAYA BIG BEATDOWN decks.....

As somebody who plays a more relaxed Trostani casual deck, I agree that she can be played/built well. But her only relevant ability comes from populating; the lifegain is negligible.
When you boil it down - it's possible to make a horde of Vryn Wingmare via Seance / lock out all noncreature spells via Archon of Valor's Reach . Despite this, her ability to be relevant is vastly overshadowed by Rhys the Redeemed who is more cost efficient and effective at achieving the same goals.

The last ability of Archon of Valor's Reach is a static ability. Static abilities only apply while they object they're on is in play unless stated otherwise, or the ability could only logically function in another zone.
- 604.2. Static abilities create continuous effects, some of which are prevention effects or replacement effects. These effects are active as long as the permanent with the ability remains on the battlefield and has the ability, or as long as the object with the ability remains in the appropriate zone, as described in rule 112.6.
If the Archon leaves the battlefield, its casting prevention ability goes away. If you flicker it with Roon, it will come back as a new permanent with no memory of previous choices made for it, and you will be able to choose a new card type to prevent, but the old card type will no longer be prevented.
It's also important to note that you won't be able to cast spells of the chosen type either.

With Archon of Valor's Reach ’s effect of naming a card type and preventing it from being cast, does it only last while archon is in play or does this effect last the rest of the game? And if I say flickered it with Roon of the Hidden Realm would you be able to prevent multiple things from being cast? Would this effect stack or would you only be able to prevent one thing? The text on archon is a little vague. The oracle didn’t say much.
