Kalain, Reclusive Painter Discussion

Necrosis24 on Reckless Endeavor too reckless?

I am not goinng to get into the math of it but just from a general stand point this is the type of card I would typically run in specific decks. For instance Kalain, Reclusive Painter in which I care about treasure tokens. Otherwise I usually prefer Blasphemous Act and Chain Reaction as my go to red boardwipes.

But seeing as you are fine with 3 or more I’d say the card is worth running. It’s always fun to mix it up as well so I’d say its worth using to see how it fits in ur playgroup.

Fain, the Broker Is ok, but a bit slow. I would consider it in a budget list possibly, but I think there are generally better sacrifice outlets you could pick from.

Kalain, Reclusive Painter I don't like. you need to devote a lot of space to treasure production and there's really not a lot of cards that fit the bill on that end, and it's too limited to rely only on his own ability to make treasures. in a pirate focused list where you're making a lot of treasures it might be a better fit, but in general I wouldn't bother with it.

Plumb the Forbidden is definitely a playable card, I generally steer more towards creature based card draw like Baleful Strix, Watcher for Tomorrow and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician since they tend to provide better value over a game, but you could certainly play this as well. I have it in my budget list, although the price has gotten a bit higher lately.

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer Doesn't really do a lot here. I think it's a much better card in formats like legacy and modern than in commander and it doesn't really create the right kind of value for a marchesa deck the way I run it (aristocrats) he doesn't have evasion and is a fairly small body, so you'll probably find it hard to connect and so I think a lot of the time he's going to just sit around and do nothing.

Resculpt is definitely something you could play. It's pretty much directly comparable to Reality Shift and you could certainly play either or both.

Lokotor what is your opinion on these cards being added to Marchesa ? Kalain, Reclusive Painter, Fain, the Broker, Plumb the Forbidden and Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer ?

Kalain, Reclusive Painter seems super useful for you here. Gets your commander out a turn early with the treasure token provided plus makes your creatures stronger if you use treasure on them. At first might not seem like much but the value really shines in playtest.

Made the change to Prosper, Tome-Bound and the tests have gone well! I should get the cards I ordered tomorrow and then play the deck the day after and over the next few weeks. It is interesting actually writing out the primer though. I'm already finding some things that were hold overs from Kalain, Reclusive Painter that ought to get the boot.

Spicy! I've been playing a Kalain, Reclusive Painter Brawl deck on Arena and your list makes me wanna pull the trigger on the pre-con.

So I apparently have an addiction to lol. I've got Anje Falkenrath and I'm building Kalain, Reclusive Painter . I've even got most of the off shoots of Rakdos with Ghen, Arcanum Weaver as my and Mairsil, the Pretender as my commanders. I've been thinking of what to build for and also thinking about other commanders like Lyzolda, the Blood Witch .

Are there any colors you like playing more than others? Or find merely by coincidence shows up in more of your decks than others?

This looks pretty good so far. Did I see it correctly that you included about 35 lands spread among all sections? Seems fine, but I wouldn't go lower. Would you consider The Underworld Cookbook ? I realize you're playing the other one of Magic's chefs, but it's a pretty great card for Gyome as well, and even better as you're already playing Cauldron Familiar . If you're looking for a finisher, Cranial Plating is powerful here. Inspiring Statuary is awesome ramp, but hard to defend with your theme in mind. A very easy include is Feasting Troll King . Oh, and Infernal Tribute basically turns your food into clues.

Btw, there should be a Gyome list somewhere on my profile (I'm pretty sure I didn't delete it). If you're interested, feel free to have a look.

Finally: I just started building some AFR commanders. After building pools, I'm not sure if I'll actually finish Kalain, Reclusive Painter , but an early version Asmodeus the Archfiend is already sleeved, and once I get the chance to go over the 200-card-pile for Drizzt Do'Urden , I'll also hopefully get a version of him. I'll try to upload them in the coming weeks.
