Tasigur Lands - Scapeshift in EDH

Commander / EDH BUG (Sultai) Combo Primer Scapeshift

Welcome to this very fun Land-themed deck with Tasigur, the Golden Fang at the helm. The initial idea was to build a typical contol deck which abuses Tasigurs ability, but I moved more to the land theme with every iteration of deck-building. I found myself having more fun playing it, since the value of some synergies is just insane. While this is still work in progress most of the cards have a fixed slot by now. Let me know if you like it!

Tasigur is probably not the first legend you would think of when it comes to land-themed EDH decks. Indeed Muldrotha, the Gravetide seems like the obvious choice in sultai colors. However, Tasigur allows us to play a control-game (to some extend) which harmonizes nicely with the rather slow but resilient win-conditions. The crucial upside of Tasigur compared to Muldrotha is, that Tasigur will win on the spot once we have infinite mana. On top of that, Tasigur often only costs us only even considering commander tax. It might not be the most obvious Tasigur-build and probably far from the best, but it is huge fun to play.

Scapeshift win

Basically we want to Scapeshift into:

After untapping, Inventors' Fair can get Rings of Brighthearth which can copy the untap trigger of Deserted Temple . This will result in infinite colored Mana assuming we have enough lands to fuel Coffers. Mana can be used to repeatedly use Tasigurs ability and win on the spot. Once you have all your nonland cards in hand you can proceed exiling opponents libraries via Villainous Wealth and destroy all permanents via e.g. Assassin's Trophy . Also: Beast Within + Reality Shift .

We can also tutor for other lands if the situation requires it. E.g. we already have some of the needed Lands, we have more than enough lands or Rings of Brighthearth in hand.

Typical lines which make the combo rather resilient are:

  • get Petrified Field to protect our lands or get a needed land out of the Graveyard
  • get Buried Ruin if Rings are in the Graveyard or we predict artifact removal
  • Depending on your meta Glacial Chasm can help to untap for the win

Palinchron win

This uses the well known combo of Palinchron + Phantasmal Image . With infinite Mana we proceed winning with Tasigur's ability

Life from the Loam

This is probably the most important engine in the deck. Dredging and picking up lands synergizes nicely with Tasigur's ability. Combined with The Gitrog Monster or extra landdrops it will get out of hand quickly. Intuition is also a great card. We can tutor for Life from the Loam , a cycle land and another utility land, e.g. Strip Mine .

The Gitrog Monster

No explanation needed. Synergizes nicely with a lot of cards in the deck and does nasty things in combination with Tatyova, Benthic Druid , Dredge or Tasigurs ability

Strip Mine/Wasteland lock

Strip Mine or to some extend Wasteland can attack opponents mana in combination with a Crucible of Worlds -effect. Extra landdrops will fuel this engine.

Tasigur + Seedborn Muse

With Seedborn Muse in play we can activate Tasigur on our opponents turn, sometimes even twice. This will eventually result in having nearly infinite answers.

Lands

Instants

  • Intuition provides a way to tutor for Life from the Loam and two lands. We will do this most of the time, preferably early game. Sometimes we will go for 3xTutor, which also increases the odds of a good Tasigur activation with two tutors in the yard.

to be continued

Some of the expensive cards can be replaced by budget alternatives. However, it is not very likely that the deck will be cheap. Fetchlands for example seem crucial for the deck to work properly and tutors make the combos work. Some budget suggestions:
