UR Dragon beatdown

Commander / EDH Dragons

Alexev

This deck is meant to be a focused deck, a Dragon tribal beatdown deck, I know that the theme itself is not strong, but I want to build it as strong as it can be.

Dropping some huge value dragons and beating faces for the win

While reading the stats please note that sometimes one single card acts as two or more effects

I priorate versatile cards so many of my cards will serve more than one purpose, thats why I will count one card as two in some cases, for example The Great Henge is considered draw and ramp

  • Card draw : 10
  • Spot removal : 3 (plus 5 conditional removals like Terror of the Peaks )
  • Mass removal : 1 (plus 3 conditionals like Balefire Dragon)
  • Mana Cheat : 3
  • Mana acceleration : 10 (plus 6 conditionals such as Zendikar Resurgent)
  • Tutors : 2
  • Protection : 3

Caard choices by effect

This is not a control deck, but sometimes wee may need to reset the board

I have only one mass removal Crux of Fate, and some mass conditional removals such as Silumgar, the Drifting Death

We have a lot of things going on on our table and we have really not many spots for interaction with our opponent's plan, for that case I value flexible removal but strong effects such as

Path to Exile: Because is cheap and exiles Utter End : Because is the more flexible removal (to be replaced for Anguished Unmaking) Boros Charm : I will use this as removal only as a very last resort, I have it here mostly for indestructibility

We have some other creatures spot removal on our own dragons, like Scourge of Valkas and others, we also have some spot permanents removal on Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire and so

I value versatile cards, so in this deck there is no card that says pay and just draw cards, I need more value for my mana, the best cards are:

  1. Zendikar Resurgent : Really mana expensive but, if it survives a turn, a mana doubler and card draw (Pretty greedy I know).

  2. Temur Ascendancy: Except for my 3 shamans and the Sakura, every other creature is 4+ so is great and this deck wants to get as many haste enablers as it can, so this card fulfils both needs.

  3. The Great Henge: Ramp, Buff and card draw in a single card that can be even cast for . yes please

There are plenty more of card draw but this are the top 3

I have only one tutor Sarkhan's Triumph which is the best for this deck, we can also consider Scion of the Ur-Dragon a tutor

We use the usual suspects in green like Rampant Growth, but we have some ramp for dragons like Urza's Incubator, Dragonspeaker Shaman, card:Hearald's horn and Dragonlord's Servant that added with the of mana reduction form our commander they sum up to 7 mana, real great (very unrealistic case to have all of them but cool stuff)

There are some niche 'ramp' cards that I called it ramp but I am stretching a lot the concept, I am talking about Fist of Suns, Ramos, Dragon Engine, Morophon, the Boundless and even Sarkhan Unbroken that are all powerhouses that can accelerate our mana but will depend on some stuff

Under construction

Wel, the main wincon is beating faces with a bunch of dragons, but... there are some string synergies that can insta win a game such as Sarkhan Unbroken ultimate (unlikely to happen) but can be done.

Because this is not particulary a competitive deck, we can get some greedy cards that can get us vey ahead, lets see wich ones

  1. Sunbird's Invocation If we can cast a single dragon its nuts

  2. Genesis Ultimatum: Crazy value

  3. Eerie Ultimatum: Game ending card in the right situation, can be Sarkhan's ultimate if our graveyard is full
