Wincons

  • ThOracle + Demonic Consultation/Tainted Pact
  • Francisco + Agatha's Soul Cauldron + nonland on top of library and Walking Ballista in the grave or exiled with Agatha's Soul Cauldron
  • Thrasios + Kinnan & Basalt Monolith into ThOracle, Finale of Devastation, or Walking Ballista

Maybeboard

  • Valley Floodcaller + X: Floodcaller costs a lot already, but being able to immediately play noncreature spells I puck up from Thrasios is certainly powerful. This also opens infinite mana lines with Banishing Knack/Retraction Helix, value lines with Birds of Paradise/Mockingbird and potentially Enduring Vitality, and maybe something with Francisco.
  • Chord of Calling: Convoke is pretty easy to use here. There are plenty of excellent creatures to grab.
  • Whir of Invention: Same as above, but Improvise is harder to use. This mainly picks up 0-CMC rocks, Agatha's Soul Cauldron, and Ballista.
  • Dark Confidant and Sylvan Library: I know these have fallen out of favor. I just have an alter of Dark Confidant and an old printing of Sylvan Library that I want to use in a deck.
  • Rhystic Study: My entire high-power and cEDH groups actually cut this back when we all actively played. Everyone was great at generating advantage and playing around Rhystic Study. Barely anyone managed to draw extra cards. Now that those groups don't exist, perhaps it's time to find room for Rhystic Study again.

Why aren't you running X?

  • The One Ring: I wanted this to be as lean as possible. I also despise this card.
  • Any RL cards not listed, not counting Grim Monolith: If I don't have the card, I don't want to put it into the deck. I have a lot of RL cards already and my playgroup has historically allowed proxies, but I'm likely never going to even try to get Transmute Artifact or Timetwister. Pass. If it costs more than $150-200 USD, I'm likely never going to pick it up.
  • Grim Monolith: I don't have one. I could pick up one of the gold border printings pretty cheaply, but 2 mana to get 3 generic once is really just okay at best. It works fine with the Valley Floodcaller Helix/Knack line, but so does Mana Vault.
  • Borne Upon a Wind: It really just isn't needed. Yeah, it can make for a pretty explosive turn with Seedborn Muse, but Seedborn Muse is already plan Z.
  • Culling Ritual: I wanted this to be as lean as possible.
  • Copy spells (Phantasmal Image, Imposter Mech, etc.): I don't really have room.
  • Talion, the Kindly Lord: I wanted this to be as lean as possible.
  • Force of Negation: The faster and more aggressive the deck, the less useful Force of Negation becomes. It can't be cast for free on my own turn, after all.
  • Deadly Rollick: I don't have room.
  • Wishclaw Talisman: I'm not paying 3 to tutor a card at sorcery speed. I'm definitely not then giving my opponent a sorcery-speed tutor that they can tap for just 1.
  • Mindbreak Trap: 4 mana is a lot. Yeah, I know that the point is to never pay for it, but I don't want to rely on opponents always casting a bunch of spells basically every turn so that it's never dead.
  • Cyclonic Rift: You're joking, right? 1U to bounce a single thing? 6U to maybe bounce several things once in every 14,000,000 games? Yeah, I'm never going to have that much mana. If the wrath costs more than 3, I don't want it.
