Maybeboard

( This is my very first EDH deck that has evolved just as much as I have over my mtg journey. )

In the beginning Mayael was based off of the "Claws of Vengeance" deck in Duels of the Planeswalkers. While it was fun, it was filled with a plethora of vanilla creatures with high power/toughness. Godsire was my favorite creature in the deck and it quickly became my favorite card in magic. After the many painful losses I sustained from playing subpar creatures I knew something needed to change. From there I vastly upgraded my land base and made sure to add creatures that have a bigger immediate impact to the game. Cheating the mana cost of cards became a viable theme of the deck that would push it to the next level. Now it's a well oiled machine built to trample over the best of competitors. This deck has very little removal spells such as board-wipes or spot removal. Simply put, my creatures are the baddest on the field and I care not what my opponents are doing. Ether they deal with my creatures or they lose. Thats the gameplan. Some of the ways this deck reaches that feat is:

Win cons:

Removal: The deck doesn't run a single board wipe spell because my creatures will tower over my opponents. If a series of unfortunate events happen and you don't have the biggest, baddest board state then... play the "I'm not the threat anymore" card and hope they believe you. If all else fails make sure you take at least one other player with you!

Cheating of Mana Costs: One of the biggest strengths to the deck is abusing the fact we have abnormally thic bois. While the enemy players feel great about their 5 drop, we smack down a 12 drop and smile at them.

Ramp: Getting to late game as fast as possible is a key component of the deck. We dont have the time to think about counter magic and politics. Naya's job is to Smash! and if that doesnt work... SMASH HARDER!

Tutors and Top deck Manipulation: In order to best utilize Mayael the Anima's ability we need to know what is on top of our deck. And If that isnt an option we need to be able to dig through our toolbox and grab the creature we need.

Pros:

  • The deck functions perfectly without the commander, Although she does help draw gas later in the game.

  • The cheating of mana costs and the amount of ramp cards in the deck makes it very hard to race against.

  • It is very hard for people to attack into you or remove your creatures via damage

Down sides:

  • Out of necessity your opponents will target you with all of their spot removal. Particularly the mana dorks to keep the game from getting out of hand quickly. The deck is also vulnerable to board wipes without Avacyn, Angel of Hope.

  • While the deck can consistently pressure your opponents with absurd amounts of value, it doesn't have a large number of draw engines.

  • The creatures that you worked so hard to cheat into play can be bounced back to your hand by nasty blue players. I hear they feed on the souls of the righteous.

I update this deck with every new set and continue to make it as great as it can possibly be. If you have any suggestions feel free to leave a comment below (I will consider any of your suggestions and respond as to why I will or wont use it). If you dont like a card I use in the deck please tell me something I could replace it with so that the criticism is constructive.

Leaving An up-vote for any of my decks would make me a happy camper! Thanks and I hope you enjoy.
