By request from The_2ndpanda, here is my take on Brago, King Eternal. The most competitive way to build Brago is full stax (see Re: Stacks - Brago Stax as an example) but with our budget that would be impossible, so we are going to be adding a lot of value ETB/LTB.

In my ongoing endeavor to bring frugality to Commander, each card in this deck is under $2 and the whole deck is under $40 (not including the commander). If you like what you see, UPVOTE! or you can check out all my other $40 budget decks. If you see some areas of improvement, let me know what you'd change. Just make sure all suggested cards are under $2.

1) Get Brago, King Eternal out as quickly as possible

2) Start throwing down high value ETB permanents like Peregrine Drake and Mulldrifter and begin blinking them

3) See if you can luck into one of the infinite combos

1) Resource denial

2) Normal creature damage

3) Token armies, especially if infinite is reached

Here are all the three card combos:

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake = infinite mana

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Altar of the Brood = mill opponents

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Frost Titan = hard lock opponents

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Geist-Honored Monk / Myr Battlesphere / Whirler Rogue = infinite tokens

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Luminate Primordial / Man-o'-War / Phyrexian Ingester / Reflector Mage = remove all opponent's creatures

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Nevermaker / Rishadan Brigand / Rishadan Cutpurse / Rishadan Footpad = remove all opponent's permanents

Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Cloudblazer / Mulldrifter / Sea Gate Oracle / Sphinx of Uthuun / Wall of Omens = draw your deck

Archaeomancer + Peregrine Drake + Ghostly Flicker = infinite mana

While making Brago a full stax deck is the best way to spend your upgrade dollars, in the spirit of the budget build, these upgrades are blink-related. Feel free to suggest your favorite upgrade cards to add:

Blink: Conjurer's Closet, Eldrazi Displacer, Flickerwisp, Venser, the Sojourner

Card Draw: Rhystic Study

Counters: Force of Will, Glen Elendra Archmage, Pact of Negation, Swan Song

Manabase: Adarkar Wastes , Flooded Strand, Glacial Fortress, Hallowed Fountain , Port Town , Prairie Stream, Reliquary Tower, Temple of Enlightenment

Ramp: Azorius Signet, Gilded Lotus, Mana Vault, Sol Ring, Solemn Simulacrum, Thought Vessel, Talisman of Progress, Thran Dynamo

Recursion: Karmic Guide, Reveillark, Sun Titan

Removal: Cyclonic Rift, Duplicant, Path to Exile, Supreme Verdict, Swords to Plowshares, Venser, Shaper Savant

Utility: Clever Impersonator, Enlightened Tutor, Fabricate, Lightning Greaves, Panharmonicon, Phyrexian Metamorph , Steel of the Godhead, Strionic Resonator, Tezzeret the Seeker

I love the challenge of building really cheap decks. This is how the majority of my real life decks start out and then I improve them over time.

I decided to build this deck cause it looked pretty sweet for the price! I played a couple games with it, and it seems good so far! Made a couple upgrades that include Conjurer's Closet, Venser, Shaper Savant, Azorius Signet, Sol Ring, Solemn Simulacrum, Sun Titan, and Panharmonicon.

@PyroDonkey: Awesome! Glad you're enjoying it and those are some great upgrades!

Glowing Anemone can be an absolute pain when blinked multiple times, Darksteel Mutation can get around an opponents hexproof or shroud creature if blinked, Tsabo's Web draws and hates on utility lands. While it is above your $2 limit, I strongly suggest making an exception for Savor the Moment, an extra turn for whose downside Isn't even a downside for this deck. Others that i like are Kor Hookmaster, Jace's Mindseeker, Riftwing Cloudskate, and Clone.

Try to add Strionic Resonator to help with a few infinite combos. It's a bit expensive but it could make a real difference.

I’m thinking of building this deck but I’m worried that my play group will never let the general deal combat damage to them any suggestions?

Can you please explain how Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake + Frost Titan is a hard lock?

August 13, 2020 12:31 p.m.

hosshughes someone else mentioned this, and I'm not sure if you noticed. You listed multiple three card combos involving deadeye navigator to blink. However, as far as I am aware, you are not able to pair a single deadeye with multiple creatures. As such the hard lock combo and several draw combos are unviable. If I am incorrect, how does such a combo work?

replying to my own comment here. I have now figured out how the combos work.
