Supreme Verdict Discussion

I agree on the lands. This looks like a control deck - it should have at least 23-24 lands at the minimum.

Not sure how good "can't cast spells" effects actually are, especially without hand disruption such as Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek . I would cut Meddling Mage and Circu and Silence.

Sweepers are your best weapon against tribal decks. Best ones are for this deck would be Engineered Explosives , Supreme Verdict , Damn .

Hello. I have been studying Blink Brago Control for few weeks and I have to tell that I probably have found my place in MTG - I need to build this deck. The job that you had done is so good.. I'm gonna create my deck based on yours. Why ? Because your deck is IMO lacking some essential cards and OFC an UPDATE. Yep... you really need an update. Im casual player, any feedback is very appreciated. So I encourage everybody who is reading this to a discussion.

card draw / card selection

Rhystic Study - Every blue commander should play this, why don't we try - gives consistent draw to get more cards..

Mystic Remora - more draw..

Esper Sentinel - kinda new card in magic - gets consistent draw

Teferi, Master of Time - perfect for multiplayer commander and also 1v1 - +1 in opponents' turns. Discard helps to cast Delve ability or to play Snapcaster Mage - its fine I think.

Dig Through Time - Powerful because of delve.

Search for Azcanta  Flip - enables delve cards and lets to search graveyard for more options. There are some payoffs like Snapcaster Mage , Sun Titan and more.

Blink

Luminous Broodmoth - Mass removal - even more profit! more blinking!

Soulherder - Every blink deck, please. This enables to get more blinking triggers and payoffs at the same time.

Ghostway && Eerie Interlude - Why not ?

removal

Time Wipe - powerful mass removal spell, despite Supreme Verdict or Wrath of God :)

Disallow - extended counterspell...

Trickbind - counter triggers sometimes are gold worth.

Dovin's Veto - One of the most powerful counterspells in magic. Guesss what. It's Azorius colors ;)

Path to Exile - classic

protection

Lightning Greaves - protect commander

Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate - lets sacrifice it anytime we need...

mana

Thran Dynamo - IMO really underappreciated mana base card.

updates

Phantasmal Image - worse version (but only ... ) of Clever Impersonator

Snapcaster Mage - also seems like you are missign something... Play mass removal or counterspell, or anything discarded even by Teferi, Master of Time

Teferi, Master of Time - Isn't this a must-play in an BW deck now?

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria - Isn't it too much mana?

Step 1: Protect yourself. Cards like the ones EleshNornsFs and plakjekaas suggested are very solid. I might also suggest Leyline of Sanctity and Privileged Position , depending on budget. Goad cards and the Vows from Commander 2011 prevent people from attacking you. A token swarm is a good excuse to break out a Supreme Verdict or similar effect.

Step 2: Help others. You don't want want to be too threatening, so give people what they want, but not too much. If one person is able to take advantage of your gifts and dominate the table, you become guilty by association. Spread the love evenly. Add some cards that help you more than they help your opponents, like Xyris, the Writhing Storm or Fiery Justice .

Step 3: Pick a win condition. These decks are typically pretty slow and defensive, so you may be able to set up a combo win. Otherwise, keep yourself healthy and everyone else targeting each other until you can establish enough board presence to take over.

StopShot on Wrath (Color-Shifted Boardwipe) - Contains …

One of the cards spoiled in Modern Horizons 2 inspired me to create a custom card that would be the color-shifted version of it. The card on the left is an official spoiler and the card on the right is my custom card inspired by it.

Thought Process Designing the Card

Sadly the card text isn't as neatly condensed as the other card. To have the card be white I had to change how the spot removal behaves, as white doesn't do spot removal unless there's a sort of "balanced" effect.

This meant I had to change the text accordingly, however this means I could no longer use the "Overload" keyword as it wouldn't make any sense. In this case I'd have to consider using a different keyword. I considered Channel, but Channel is an activated ability, not an alternate casting of the spell, which would make the effect seem too much like a Supreme Verdict due to being harder to counter an ability.

Evoke seemed like the easiest way to go about this, but that meant I'd have to make the spell a permanent of sorts. Because it was a permanent it also might have additional problems with being blinked or removed later, so I gave it shroud to mitigate this.

How the Card Works

When casting Wrath normally, all players remove their strongest creatures, kind of like a group edict similar to white cards like: Tariff , Renounce the Guilds , Slaughter the Strong , etc.

But when Wrath is evoked it is sacrificed upon entering the battlefield. This causes its "Leave the Battlefield" effect to trigger first by putting it on the stack last. This creates a Cataclysm type effect for only creatures, meaning each player ends up with only one creature, but since the "Enter the Battlefield" effect triggers next, that means the remaining creature each player controls is now the strongest creature which ends up also getting destroyed, effectively creating the Wrath of God / Damnation type effect.

Feedback?

I'm interested on hearing feedback about my custom card idea and if it could be improved, (specifically reducing the amount of text on the card).

I think one solution would be to name the card "Judgment" based off of Day of Judgment . This would mean I could remove the "creatures destroyed this way can't be regenerated," clause as it appears twice and would help to free up much more space.

The card text looks much more pleasing, but the effect might be abusable with creatures that can regenerate.

Glorybringer isn't exactly a finisher -- it's bad at actually dealing enough damage to kill. Typically, the plan is to have other heavy hitters that come down earlier, like Bonecrusher Giant , and then slam Bringer on t5 to 2-for-1 the opponent. Killing a walker, a solid creature, or a value engine creature on top of smacking for 4, as well as having your other creatures to swing in, will typically put the opponent in a really bad position. So while it itself doesn't really win the game, the situation you play it in is gamewinning.

As for rankings,

  • 1) Glorybringer, obviously. You know my thoughts.

  • 2) Stormbreath. The immunity to Path makes it somewhat playable in Modern.

  • 3) Thundermaw. Bigger than the top 2, so it hits harder, but his ability isn't all that relevant.

  • 4) Hypersonic. That late, what am I trying to cast at instant speed? t3f does this well because Supreme Verdict is playable on its own and comes down right after, but Hypersonic has no 6 mana sorcery that you actually want to be playing at instant speed to help it out. Now, the body + haste and flying is a solid rate so it's not really all that bad, but the other entries have interactive abilities tacked on while Hyper over here has the disadvantage of also being blue.

I made a list of all potential dragons to fit the "5 mana flying haste" criteria, and I'll just say that Tarox is the best out the ones not previously mentioned and he's just not worth it.

THE SHOW BUTTON DOESN'T WORK OMG HERE IT IS TYPED OUT LIKE A LOSER.

Budget -2 Plains +2 Forest +1 Gemstone Mine -1 Temple of Silence -1 Zagoth Crystal +1 Astral Cornucopia -1 Gyre Sage +1 Fynn, the Fangbearer -1 (3 total) more Plains for a Blight Mamba . I think we are good w/ 38 lands.

Non-Budget Not sure what to cut in this section, but if yo' wallet is feelin' like a pimp, go on brush yo' shoulders off. Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider Once you add the fetches + shocks, Become Immense becomes...immensely better. Usually will cast for G.

Personal Choices - Prairie Stream - Sunken Hollow + Vivid Grove + Vivid Creek Prairie and sunken will come into play tapped most of the time anyway, so might as well make rainbow colors and get some counters back on them late game.
-1 Render Silent (casting cost is prohibitive). +1 Fuel for the Cause -1 Fathom Mage +1 Steady Progress . Fathom Mage seems iffy for card draw. Steady progress feels more stable, instant speed, and proliferates. -1 Despark +1 Inexorable Tide . Ups your CMC aka mana value by a bit, but I'd rather go the proactive than reactive game plan. -1 Lazav, the Multifarious . He will appear as one of your infecty boiz from the yard, but at that point you're already behind, and he has no forms of evasion. Maybe +1 Sword of Truth and Justice instead. (It's slow) -1 Supreme Verdict (prohibitive casting cost, you're probably the one with the most valuable creatures). +1 Contentious Plan for more draw and more dirty HIV. -1 Phyrexian Juggernaut . Too slow, probably a dead card in your hand, chances of it not getting blocked are small. I imagine best-case scenario is that it goes unblocked and you pump it, but wait...how 'bout Roalesk, Apex Hybrid . Ain't nobody gonna attack you when they get proliferate juices on their shirt.

But wait, do you want to make the deck WORSE? Contagion Engine + Magistrate's Scepter . Take all the turns. 7 mana + a boardstate is a steep setup, but do you want to be a winner, or a JANK-ASS BISS?

I'm not really sure if these are good or not. So this section is useless. Strionic Resonator . Seems kinda win-more. But meh. Idk.

Let's f* with Hop -1 Generous Gift +1 Teferi's Protection . I am a terrible human being.

I most definitely could be wrong in this section. -1 Ancient Tomb . You'll take a heavy amount of damage, and your color requirements are strong. I'd replace with +1 Inkmoth Nexus

Aight baby gurl, bedtime. May your infectious love for infect cause infectious hate upon you. Love, Jake Stremers
