Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Commander / EDH Midrange RG (Gruul)

Tief

Maybeboard

This is not like many Ruric decks that run strictly creatures and lands, nor is it a " Primal Surge and win" deck.

A good Ruric player should be able to value when it's appropriate to eat the 6 from his/her own non-creature spells (Of course ideally you should never have to eat any of his triggers). There are some non-creature spells that just add too much tempo to your plays that creatures alone cannot (EX. Bedlam , Mana Vault ).

I do not like mana dorks for a couple reasons. Over-investing early game instead of just ramping lands into play leaves you susceptible to cheap board wipes. In casual decks there are many random ass effects like Electrolyze or Fire at Will that you will not anticipate. Even ones that appear in all ranges of decks like Pestilence , Massacre Wurm , Inferno Titan or Aurelia's Fury . There are cards like Creeping Renaissance or Praetor's Counsel that help you recover, but this feels like putting too many eggs in one basket for me (EX. counterspells, mass graveyard exile following the wipe, mass discard post hand-filling, all very common for the format).

Some of the Maybeboard are cards I intend to put into the deck but have yet to pick up. More play testing will help in deciding which cards are soon to get cut.
