Maybeboard

Primer:

I designed this deck from my own Ruric Thar, the Unbowed list that I had been piloting for a while. My color identity has always been Naya, and I come from a long career playing Titanshift in Modern, so I know my way around the Gruul color combination.

When Klothys was released as one of the face cards for Theros: Beyond Death, I noticed--like others--that her ability resembled a condensed form of Deathrite Shaman. But she was in Red and Green, so of course I thought of some ideas for putting her to use. At first, I simply added her to the 99 of my Ruric Thar deck, which was stax and aggro focused, but also had a land destruction subtheme with Wildfire and Destructive Force. I noticed that Klothys, being an indestructible enchantment creature, survived every kind of mass destruction spell there was. So, I thought; what if I used her as the commander, and made Mass Land Destruction my primary or secondary game plan?

So, I did put it together, and this current list is the result of playing this deck over any other in cEDH pods every week since the release of her set.

The primary plan is to establish a board state that allows you to cast one of the Obliterate -esque spells, but coming out of it far ahead of your opponents. Enchantments and Planeswalkers that create mana and value on their own are the most effective ways to profit off of this, but I also include cards like Life from the Loam and Heroic Intervention to break the symmetry even further.

The secondary plan that goes hand-in-hand with ramping up to Obliterate is the two creature-based combos I have included here. The first, you all know and love in Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker with either Hyrax Tower Scout or Great Oak Guardian; the second is one (has been removed for now as of 8/21/20) I discovered on my own also from Theros. It involves Nyxbloom Ancient , Wakeroot Elemental , and any land that produces 2 or more Green mana on its own (Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , Gaea's Cradle , Lotus Field , or Castle Garenbrig). You tap the land for 6 green or more, then use Wakeroot Elemental to untap it and make it a 5/5, netting mana each time. And because you may target lands that are already creatures with this ability, you create infinite mana of all colors, which can win in two ways. Either your lands are enough to kill your opponents with 5/5s, or you can draw every creature in your library with Nylea, Keen-Eyed , or you can use Finale of Devastation to win with the mana.

I'm not very good at explaining interactions that could happen, simply because there is not much time or space here. Please, ask me anything. In answering your questions I should build a much more thorough guide to the strategy.

Note #1 (8-13-20). On Apocalypse. The card does indeed exile Klothys, were she in play as it resolves. If I see Apocalypse in my hand, I immediately maneuver myself to having enough mana to resolve Apocalypse, then use the floating mana to cast Klothys. It is a judgement call for this to be effective, but having so many 1-drop creatures on top of my lands makes this a generally good plan when no easier lines present themselves.
