Maybeboard

I haven't been playing for long, but as soon as I found out Scion of the Ur-Dragon existed, and that commander was also a thing, I knew I had to make a Dragon EDH deck.

The deck is designed to be fun, while also being competitive. I have loosely built around Scion of the Ur-Dragon 's ability to close out games very quickly using a combo like Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon and Atarka, World Render or Crucible of Fire . But it is still meant to be fun and casual. It also includes a few planeswalkers, mostly dragon themed, hence the name 'Sarkhan and Friends'.

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is definitely my favourite, followed closely by Sarkhan Unbroken and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon . Lore wise, and ability wise, these planeswalkers have it all. Nicol Bolas can ping away almost anything we don't like ( Cabal Coffers , Gaea's Cradle or enemy Lightning Greaves are pretty tasty targets), Ugin can exile the entire battlefield, and Sarkhan can ramp or make more Dragons. There's a few non dragon related planeswalkers, Kaya, Ghost Assassin , and Ob Nixilis Reignited . They both draw cards, and have extra value abilities. Kaya can blink a dragon for another ETB trigger, and Ob can kill something we don't like.

For the most part, the deck has a pretty straight forward 'beat your enemies down with big creatures strategy' while Scion of the Ur-Dragon tutors situational dragons for value.

Hellkite Tyrant can swipe artifacts, Dragonlord Dromoka can gain you life, Numot, the Devastator can blow up lands. The downside to Scion's tutor is that it doesn't trigger ETB effects. Tutoring Dragonlord Atarka won't let you wrath someones tokens or destroy a troublesome planeswalker, and tutoring Bladewing the Risen won't net you 2 dragons. To counter this, we have a few reanimation spells since Scion has a nice way of filling our yard with value. Unburial Rites , of course, and Fearsome Awakening for synergy. Artisan of Kozilek is a big threat on it's own, that can bring another one with it. One of the quickest ways to finish a game is to have a few dragons on board already then tutor Atarka, World Render to give the crew double strike. If you combo this with Hellkite Charger , it can be game over for up to 4 other players.

There's a little bit of synergy with non creature spells too. Crucible of Fire for a bit of pump, and it makes Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon a major threat (as if it wasn't already). Dragon Tempest gives pretty much everything haste, but, remember, the ETB ability doesn't trigger off Scion of the Ur-Dragon 's tutor effect. And Temur Ascendancy for hasty creatures and card draw. Dragonlord's Prerogative is a nice, instant speed, un-counterable card draw spell, but it is very expensive to cast and doesn't stick around like our card drawing walkers do - Sarkhan Unbroken , Ob Nixilis Reignited , and Kaya, Ghost Assassin . I'd consider cutting this for a board wipe. Cyclonic Rift , or In Garruk's Wake if I had them. We have Crux of Fate over Wrath of God or Day of Judgment because it is almost always one sided.

Other non dragon cards are there for value. A lot of it is ramp, fixing, or removal. I have noticed that a lot of people get salty if you run a lot of spot removal. I don't know why. Honestly, it surprises me when green players don't Krosan Grip my Chromatic Lantern or Dragon Arch . I mean... It seems like a good target. I'll exile your Lightning Greaves if I want to stop you from hiding your commander. Ezuri, Claw of Progress needs to die.

Abzan Charm is card draw or removal, Anguished Unmaking will get rid of anything we don't like. Explosive Vegetation and Skyshroud Claim are a bit of ramp, both are a bit restrictive. Skyshroud Claim can only fetch lands with 'forest' type, and Explosive Vegetation only gets basics, but drawing one of them really helps long term. Especially Skyshroud Claim since it can get you 3 colours and the lands don't need to enter tapped. Prismatic Omen also really helps with mana fixing, and provides some redundancy for Chromatic Lantern . Prismatic Omen doesn't ramp, but it can come down a turn earlier.
