Everyone Hates Oloro

Commander / EDH* WUB (Esper)

Janson13

This deck is broken down into three main strategies all of which are very frustrating for your opponents: The Combo, Prison, and Card Advantage. Now let's not forget about our other close friends: Targeted Removal, Board Wipes, Tutors, Janky Creatures and the Nuclear Option. But first, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic is our commander and he is a Balla'. So the whole point of this deck is to use our life as currency to do janky stuff. Also we have many cards that react with lifegain triggers and good ole Oloro is a trigger every upkeep!

So there are a two infinite combos but my favorite is Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood. Sure you could go with Defiant Bloodlord however there are so many more creature removal spells in this format than enchament hate so it feels safer not to mention cheaper. This combo has been dubbed "the gross blood combo thing'' which is hilarious and I suppose kinda true. So anyway this combo is infinite because whenever you gain life or an opponent loses life these cards trigger each other.
Go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200. We don't have a ton of threats in this deck so we need to buy some time. So here we have Ghostly Prison, Propaganda, Crawlspace, Sphere of Safety, Blind Obedience, Detention Sphere, and finally Authority of the Consuls which is a hilarious way to start the game.
Necropotence while gaining life every single turn?? Seems legit. People see this card and immediately see you as a huge threat. This card can be painful when it comes to discarding which is why you want to find one of the three cards that gives you no maximum hand size (Reliquary Tower, Venser's Journal, Thought Vessel) before drawing significant cards. Other super dope card advantage cards are: Pull from Tomorrow, Phyrexian Arena, Greed, and finally Rhystic Study which some of my students have deemed the "Salvation Army Card" from my constant requests "are you going to pay me or can I draw a card?".

There are so many other cool parts to this deck other than what I listed above and there are 38/100 cards in this deck that deal with life manipulation!! Holy triggers Batman!

Stay in school kiddos it's a good way to win Magic games. So I know I could and should be running Vampiric Tutor but it's like $40 so maybe another day but anyway let's get into this. We start with our non-restrictive tutors Diabolic Tutor and Demonic Tutor. These cards should be in every EDH deck that runs black they are that useful and so cheap for an EDH game. Keeping in mind we almost always HAVE to go infinite to win we need our best buddies Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood. So of course we also have some enchantment tutors such as Enlightened Tutor and the ever-cool Zur the Enchanter. So Zur is awesome in his own right but let's look at the 11 targets he can hit in this deck: Solemnity, Authority of the Consuls, Blind Obedience, Soul Snare, Ghostly Prison, Propaganda, Rhystic Study, Detention Sphere, As Foretold, Phyrexian Arena, Necropotence, and Copy Enchantment. Our last tutor is Lim-Dul's Vault which I don't think has ever been correctly read and played. But this card is sweet you can look through so much of your deck with your high life total.
You cannot present minimal threats while not also controlling the board. Probably the most synergistic of this bunch is Fumigate. Gotta love that life gain while killing everyone's dreams. Toxic Deluge, Wrath of God, Terminus, and Supreme Verdict, all work so well at keeping us alive. Cyclonic Rift is a staple of all EDH decks running blue and Merciless Eviction is awesome for its aspect of choice. After playing many games with this deck I found myself woefully bored on my opponents turns. The solution? Vedalken Orrery Get this on the field and you can cast all of your board wipes at instant speed and everyone at the table knows it.
As far as spot removal goes you may as well call me Mr. Clean. This deck runs Return to Dust, Anguished Unmaking, Utter End, Vindicate, Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, and Detention Sphere. These cards are cheap and crucial to the "please don't kill me" plan.
Holy crap Aetherflux Reservoir is the most fun win in this deck. It's not listed as a top win con considering I rarely have 50 health due to my card advantage enchantments but when you get above 50 health with one of these on the board you go with the phrase "Sure you can attack me, I'll Aetherflux you in response though" and then basically nothing bad happens to you until someone can kill it and when they try to kill it you can use its ability in response because it doesn't say "use only when you can cast a sorcery". Such a hilarious political card.
