Rashmi, Eternally Cascading

Commander / EDH

JumboCommander

Sideboard

Although technically not a cascade it is hauntingly similar and the card advantage is real. This powerful Kaladesh commander gives simic new options. So many simic commanders rely on creatures or counters but Rashmi says play what you want and I will provide the value.

I like this deck a lot! I will probably end up making a tribal commander out of this because I Love tribal decks they're so much fun! But I really enjoy this! I have a few tribals myself ranging from commander to 60 card. But anyway enough off topic talk. May I suggest Cryptic Command. Cryptic Command plus Eternal Witness is a fantastic combo! Plus they're both powerful cards on their own.

May I also suggest Courser of Kruphix, it will fair well with Rashmi because it gets lands out of the way and onto the battlefield and always leaves a spell to be played.

September 20, 2016 1:29 p.m.

xSkulk3rx Oh yeah Cryptic Command is just a great card. It's so useful. Courser and Oracle were some of the deck's first inclusions. I can't pass up the value of knowing what card I can "cascade" into! I also think I chose to play more shuffle effects than normal too. Great suggestions.

September 21, 2016 3:38 p.m.

Haha I didn't see those until now But yea! I really like the deck! And I also have a question! What was the thinking behind Palinchron and Peregrine Drake instead of Great Whale?

September 21, 2016 3:44 p.m.

n0bunga: You are correct about Deadeye Navigator triggering Palinchron and friends, btw.

October 11, 2016 3:51 p.m.

n0bunga: I must have misunderstood you - I thought you were saying "CIP" and "ETB" effects ARE the same thing, which they are.

October 12, 2016 12:04 a.m.

Daedalus19876, n0bunga & xSkulk3rx I believe that I need to weigh in on this debate ... i made a mistake Great Whale is superior because he is a whale (which are just great creatures) while Peregrine Drake is just a rainbow baby dragon that frustrates me in pauper.

I also want Plasm Capture to be good but I always seem to cut it. I muse to myself: "If it cost three would it have been too good?" And then I think of Mana Drain and I KNOW it would be overpowered. I see a lot of great ideas here. Thanks guys.

October 12, 2016 3:38 a.m.

If you add in Tooth and Nail you have an infinite control all players board state. Confused? Let me explain.

Tooth and Nail entwined for Palinchron and E Witness, get back tooth and nail. Entwine for Deadeye and Tefari. Infinite mana and reoccur TnN again this time getting Emrakul and Venser. Congratulations, you can now produce infinite mana and cast creatures with flash. Meaning you can flicker venser to bounce your Emrakul and cast it as an instant on everyone's turn. You will mess up everyone's board state so throughly they won't be able to recover.

Enjoy.

Do you have a budget versions of this list or can recommend someone else's in order to get started? Thanks.

Let me know what you think of my deck Simic Rashmi Commander Cast Me If You Can

October 26, 2021 4:22 a.m.

JumboCommander $15? you have Mana Drain in your deck lol

How about Yeva, Nature's Herald?

September 8, 2016 11:22 a.m.

The deck looks super fun to play and I like it a lot! I whole-heartedly second adding Mirri's Guile. Seems absolutey perfect here.

September 8, 2016 1:52 p.m.

Mandalorian & dan.gilbert: Mirri's Guile is in (I actually ordered one yesterday). I think this deck will be super fun to play and that is my number one metric for owning an EDH deck. I need to playtest the eldrazi package. Sometimes they are fun and sometimes they can be a little boring. We shall see.

September 8, 2016 2:07 p.m.

Hows the eldrazi package working, because Frost Titan over Elder Deep-Fiend. <3

September 11, 2016 8:40 p.m.

How does Rashmi interact with Eldritch Evolution? (Assuming you sacrifice her as the additional cost.)

September 12, 2016 1:56 p.m.

awesome +1

September 12, 2016 9:54 p.m.

Daedalus19876 it wouldnt trigger because you have to pay as part of the cost. than you cast it and shes no longer on the field.

September 13, 2016 3:09 p.m.

Lunarcaster: Yep, someone explained that to me in the Rules forum. It's a shame :/ Thanks for your answer!

September 13, 2016 3:21 p.m.

Lunarcaster The Eldrazi package during my first few games was ... weak but unique. I think I need a few more games to make a conclusion. I will tell you I enjoy drawing Elder Deep-Fiend more than a Frost Titan because you are right - Titan is just better ... so I have titans in a lot of decks but this is my first EDH deck that has run a deep-fiend. So, I'm not giving up yet.

September 13, 2016 8:11 p.m.

As I commented on someone else's Rashmi deck yesterday, effects that let you use her ability on your opponent's turn are great. You can rely on instants, but filling the deck with those probably isn't the best idea; so instead use Yeva, Nature's Herald or effects like Isochron Scepter to cast spells on your opponent's turn, and get twice the payoff.

September 20, 2016 2:08 a.m.

Mind's Dilation seems REALLY good. Not only do we get to play cards from opponents library, but we "cast" it. And it can be the "first" card we cast so Rashmi triggers and we get two cards, one from our deck, one from the opponent.

September 5, 2016 10:53 p.m.

If you're playing Deadeye Navigator you might as well play Palinchron and Peregrine Drake. Pair it with Future Sight and Magus of the Future to play out your deck.

September 6, 2016 1:20 p.m.

Wow so many great suggestions. As time passes and people contribute ideas I'm seeing how versatile this general can be. Suspend mechanics seem really cool.

mountainturtle93 I like Palinchron and Peregrine Drake even without the combo because they give a trigger while allowing you to leave mana up for instants. Great suggestion.

foxboy93 Mind's Dilation is so fun I was looking for a place to include it. This seems like a perfect fit.

markbeloit & NotSquishedYet I also like suspend. It can let you play a spell, play Rashmi, resolve a suspended spell while keeping up instants for Rashmi. Suspend has great tempo and Rashmi can add card advantage to tempo (so powerful). Search for Tomorrow & Riftwing Cloudskate

Thanks all for helping tune this deck. I think it will be really fun and powerful.

September 6, 2016 3:01 p.m.

Another suggestion I would make is to take out Decimator of Provinces for Prime Speaker Zegana maybe thassa'S bident for card advantage?

September 6, 2016 3:47 p.m.

With all the powerhouse creatures you have, this seems like a deck that wants Eldritch Evolution.

September 6, 2016 7:48 p.m.

JumboCommander A budget version of Palichron would be Great Whale. I know alot of people like Palichron and by all means id run him too, but sometimes money trumps power level.

Mind's Dilation just seemed so strong. Even if they run into a kill spell for it, you get at least one trigger off of it, maybe get something cool or a combo piece they needed, then you hope fully get something else.

Shardless Agent might also be something decent. Reason I say that is cause if you Cascade into a ramp spell, then you can reveal something else and still draw a card.

Arcanis the Omnipotent would also be something I consider. High CMC lets us "cascade" into something on cast. We can bounce it to hand and replay it if need be for an extra trigger (or flash if we have it). It also is a card draw effect we can use, compared to Prime Speaker Zegana who is an ETB effect.

If you want to be semi mean, you could run Extra turn effects too. Beacon of Tomorrows, Expropriate, Temporal Mastery, Temporal Trespass, Walk the Aeons. These all have the addition of a high CMC to likely cheat something into play with Rashmi, while also getting a chance to do something with said nonland next turn.

The deck doesn't seem to be able to deal with artifacts or enchantments alot, other than counter spells. Maybe something to look into after play testing?

Rashmi I feel is going to help me remake Ezuri, Claw of Progress. The deck sort of pilots the same (make small creatures, make a small creature BIGGER! ((no infect in Ezuri, was meant as a fairly fun deck))). Rashmi might just be the commander I was looking for!

Glen Elendra Archmage is just waiting to be broken by Melira, Sylvok Outcast

September 6, 2016 10:05 p.m.

I love this deck, insta-subbed to your YouTube Channel as well :)

Could I suggest Brainstorm, Serum Visions, and/or Ponder? I'm not sure how efficient they would be in this deck, but I feel like they combo great with rashmi, and since theyre one mana, you can even "cascade" into them most of the time.

Keep putting out great vids!

VraskaTheCursed Thanks for the kind words and the great suggestion. I am a huge fan of the cantrips. I think they can improve a lot of decks, smoothing out draws, finding action. Thanks for the tip.

Mandalorian Mirri's Guile GET IN MY DECK! I wish it didn't cost $15 though.

September 8, 2016 1:53 a.m.

Perhaps Soothsaying for better deck stacking? It can dig as deep as you want it to and force a shuffle if you don't like any of it.

September 5, 2016 4:57 a.m.

Really like the thought and effort you put into this sir. Beautiful deck, insightful video. I went the tribal route with Rashmi (my 6th tribal deck...I think I have a problem) and your commentary gave me a lot to consider.

September 5, 2016 1:28 p.m.

acbooster Soothsaying is perfect! I'm frustrated I missed it for the deck tech but it'll go straight in my tapped out list. You are a hero.

Forkbeard I demand to know all of your tribes! (I have Gods, Elves, Zombies, Fungus, and humans)

September 5, 2016 2:02 p.m.

The classics: Dragons (Atarka, WR), Slivers (Overlord...I know, I know), Vampires (OG Olivia), Goblins (Krenko of course), Zombies (Grimgrin) and now Elves. I previously ran GW Rhys as Elf tribal but that deck changed into a classic token theme over time. I thought I'd revisit Elves with Rashmi and so far I like what I see.

September 5, 2016 2:11 p.m.

Forkbeard The classics are great they have so much support and synergy they feel like a tribe -- exponentially powerful together. I forgot I have tribal dragons too. Oh man, whenever I start listing decks I realize I might have a problem. I like the blue splash in elves good luck building.

September 5, 2016 2:20 p.m.

I liked what you did with Adriana, and I'm going to be building Rashmi sometime soon. I'll take a look at this when I do so :) I'll also take a gander at Forkbeard's take on her.

Lantern of Insight might have a place here. Gives you more info for planning how to use your counterspells, and informs you of what's on the top of your library. Sylvan Library also seems like a must here.

For my version, I'm thinking Elves+Counterspells? Strong without the commander, and even more busted with her in play. Probably not as busted as Momir Vig, Biovisionary?, but meh.

September 5, 2016 2:57 p.m. Edited.

I was also considering using Mana Severance to make sure that I never hit a land off of Rashmi's ability. Thoughts?

September 5, 2016 6:52 p.m.

Since you have Courser and Oracle, you won't probably need to worry about drawing into too many "excess" lands.

I like what I see here and I will definitely need to look back at this when I tinker with my (in need of a lot of tender love and care) Simic deck! Haha.

September 5, 2016 9:16 p.m.

Seems pretty solid, but have you considered other cards with buyback? It might require a different type of deck, but it feels like Capsize or Mystic Speculation could be good with her. Suspend may be another mechanic to look into. Reality Strobe seems hilarious with her, and suspend cards are often higher cmc cards that you suspend for a lower cost. Finally, if you really need more topdeck manipulation, Ancestral Knowledge, while it's probably not good to keep around for more than one turn due to cumulative upkeep, could really set up your next turn.

September 5, 2016 9:42 p.m.

I second suspend. I think you should include as many of the emerge cards as you can, merely as a cheap way to get more value out of Rashmi, unless the slots are all particularly crowded.

Thank you for reminding me that Rashmi fits into my own commander deck, and rather well at that. o.0 No idea how I missed it.
