Creature change up
Gadianten, 6 years ago
I have decided to try and go more all in on the clerics with tutor effects and as such have included a suite of options for them depending to meet my needs at the time. Heliod's Pilgrim has been added with this in mind with reanimation effects like Animate Dead and Underworld Connections as a potential replacement for Custodi Lich amd will hopefully play nicer with the decks primary reanimation combo.

Tuskguard Captain -1 Nylea, God of the Hunt +1 Animar make it easier and more interresting to summon an indestructible creature. Gruul Signet -1 Phyrexian Metamorph +1 Mana blue is recuirement to trigger infinite mana combo, better keep izzet and simic signet. Story: This idea begin when I fought a white mana player, who use permanent who slow down my growth, in a multi EDH fight. I didn't have particular good hand for the mana but, I could draw so I didn't care, until it forbid me to draw more than one card, destroy my signet ,then to search in my library When I finally gather the card I needed to cast my combo, I needed just 1 extra blue mana to launch it. The one I could get If could draw with wall of blossom and elvish visonnaryor the signet I lost turn 3. But another player decide to finish me before with his 17 tokens. Not again, the phyrexian can be cast with 2 life point, and will start the combo engine even with this problems, and therefore will get me out of this kind of mess and even secure victory. I do think to buy shocklands but I wonder If it would be better to wait for ravnica, perhaps the price will go down or another kind of land will go out.
Update
Mahoot, 6 years ago
This deck has morphed so much over the last several months. I've updated it to show the most up-to-date version and created a pretty thorough write-up of the way I play it. I've done pretty well at FNM's with it. If I have the Siegehorn Ceratops and Savage Stomp and mana to cast it in my opening hand there is a good chance I will win. It's fast enough to keep up with aggro decks and to get in underneath the decks that are a bit more drawn out, and it can shift gears into mid-range pretty smoothly.
I've only been playing Magic for a little less than a year, so I am still learning. My intentions in posting this deck here are to draw attention to it and get some suggestions from people who are better at building decks than I am.
If you like it please upvote it and leave comments!
Thanks guys!

Third Revision

I want to experiment with Pir, Imaginative Rascal and Toothy, Imaginary Friend. Both seem to useful to my strategy, and the fact that playing one tutors the other is basically card draw. Pir's ability adds so much value instantly and Toothy can be great after just a couple turns with the right creatures in play.
I also fell into immediate love with Meteor Golem. So he's on a trial run in the deck as well. I feel confident that he's going to stick around. I mean, honestly, peep that flawless Super-Hero Landing pose!
To facilitate these inclusions I obviously had do the hardest thing for any deckbuilder, make some cuts. I've been getting some bad feels lately around Void Winnower. It's obviously a powerful dude (Dudette? Tentacled horror from the outer limits of human understanding? Fella?), but it doesn't quite mesh with the feel I'm trying to cultivate with Animar. I never want the deck to be oppressive to the point I'm afraid to play it. I'm also taking out Sandstone Oracle for never drawing me enough if any cards, and Kamahl, Pit Fighter because I've never drawn him in a game, so I can't speak to his exact value yet. I intend to try him again at a later time.

Mainboard and Sideboard Changes
Liquidbeaver, 6 years ago
Made quite a few changes recently that I have been playtesting at FNM, so I haven't been as concerned with the exact performances and sideboarding as I had been before.
Taking out the Runic Armasaur for the Obelisk Spider was a great idea because that thing is an absolute monster. Effectively hits creatures for 5, and pinging the opponent and healing for 1 is nothing to scoff at over a few turns. The reach is a big deal against Humans and Spirits. Testing this out as a 1x or 2x for now.
Added another Eldritch Evolution and I am VERY happy with it. This has been especially strong against Humans, since the Evolution gets around Reflector Mage AND Meddling Mage (note the errata change from "played" to "cast"), so grabbing Doran, the Siege Tower or Spellskite after they have been bounced or declared has been a huge boon. Not to mention tutoring for Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive or a sideboard creature is a big deal. 3x of Evolution has been perfect, where 4 felt like too many.
Playtested running a few Lightning Greaves, and the results were really good. Understandably, Doran gets a lot of hate, along with the Spider and Spellskite too. Spellskite definitely hold his ground against a lot of it, and does a great job of protecting Doran, but as a 4x in a deck of 60, you can't always guarantee it. Getting the boots out and onto Doran has sealed the game for me in almost every matchup, especially where people can't chumpblock enough to kill him.
The added benefit of Haste has been a lot of fun, as now I can swing with creatures I hit off a Cascade, or even get Doran attacking on T3 when I get boots out on T2.
Having more 2-drops has really smoothed out the curve as well, because there were a lot of occasions where I got T1 Birds, T2 Harbinger, and if I didn't have a Spellskite I was wasting 2 mana that turn. Now the hands are more forgiving. Even having the option of putting boots on Birds of Paradise has been nice to use the attacker or tap for mana right away. Currently running a 2x of the boots, but going back and forth between 3x.
The only thing Mainboard I am iffy about right now is Mardu Ascendancy/Tower Defense. I love them both, but the deck is able to put on so much more pressure the more creatures I can get out, and being able to tutor out some toolbox creatures when needed. The problem comes from wanting a mix of the two, but having to cut creatures for it. A 2x of Ascendancy is great by itself, a 1x of it is okay to draw into during long games, and Cascading into it is fine as well. For Tower Defense, 2x is almost too few, 1x is bad, and Cascading into it isn't always good. I like Tower Defense for the strength and the surprise factor, but Mardu is good to drop and just ignore, but the casting cost is rough compared to 1G.
I'm not really sure what the right answer is. Running none of them doesn't feel right, but only being comfortable with at most 2x of either seems clunky too.
Experimenting with a more creature based sideboard. Dropped Stony Silence and Golgari Charm for Sylvok Replica, Kataki, War's Wage, and a Vexing Shusher (or Prowling Serpopard). Running a 2x of a non-creature has never turned out well (it's why I went up to 3x Ensnaring Bridge and Leyline of Sanctity) so I'm hoping that, even though they are a little more niche, getting them out more consistently will be better overall. I sideboarded in Stony Silence as a 2x on half a dozen occasions, and never actually drew into it, and mulliganing down to find a 2x is brutal.
Overall the deck is getting more consistent, and I've gone from a 10% win percentage against Humans to very near 50%. A local counterspell tribal deck gives me the most grief, but I think the answer to that is just more creatures until he runs out of counters. His 1 wincon of Teferi is so weak, I think he is just used to people conceding before he gets to the point of drawing it.
Really looking for a way to get a little bit of draw into the mainboard, but I'm not sure if it is even possible. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Lord Swap

Acquired a play set of the Death Baron zombie lord. Amazing card by he looks of it, looking forward to using this creature. Took out the Cemetery Reaper and 3 Lord of the Accursed. I feel Accursed is a good lord for what it is, however I rather have the Barons giving the Deathtouch static ability to my zombie horde. Reaper is turned out to be just garbage.

Ok, we'll try one non-spirit

Started testing Thalia, Guardian of Thraben in the main. Pretty happy with the results so far as she helps with many troublesome match-ups. Cut one Geist and moved Remorseful Cleric to the sideboard. Cut Eidolon of Rhetoric from the sideboard as Thalia helps with the same match ups and is more useful in others.
Revisions after playtesting
Madcookie, 6 years ago
Made some changes after playtesting the deck. Added: Thaumatic Compass Flip / Outpost Siege / Endless Atlas thus increasing ramp and draw.
Removed: The former back-up of the deck, because with the dramatic (pun intended) lack of tutors, it was very unreliable - Dramatic Reversal / Isochron Scepter / Grapeshot

Out:
- Omnath, Locus of Mana: Omnath acted as a mana battery. He was what allowed me to keep three-land hands, assuming I saw no real ramp. This was the least ideal situation. Best possibility was that he let me hold over some mana for next turn, ensuring nothing was really wasted. Being Omnath, he had a huge target on his head every time, and people generally tried to remove him. Either he barely kept me in the game, was a bit of a benefit, or immediately got removed. His impact definitely isn't enough.
In:
- Runic Armasaur: The amount of cards I've been able to draw off him is ridiculous. It's only activated abilities, but there's enough creatures and fetches in my meta to make him worth it.

Huge update
Dancing-Blade, 6 years ago
This morning I took the time to do a long, overdue update to the list. The list that was on here before is not the one I have been running for a long time so apologies to anyone thinking it was up to date. I wont bother listing the changes I've made as there are so many of them, but I can safely say that the deck works waaaaay better as a result. The increase of enablers and further card-draw at the expense of some enhancers has proved to be a good move, as was the addition of Snow-Covered Plains and Scrying Sheets. Hope everyone enjoys these changes as much as I enjoy playing them.
