"Beneath crashing waves, lies an ocean waiting to be explored."

Welcome to the Time Pod primer. The Commanders currently being used are Thrasios, Triton Hero and Tana, the Bloodsower. This partner combo allows us to be able use the necessary tools and utilities to compete at a cEDH level. While the sitting price is fairly high, I've included a budget section to give a few options to significantly reduce the over-arching price.

With that being said.

Let's begin.

This Tana, the Bloodsower + Thrasios, Triton Hero build, is a fast paced Timetwister/Memory's Journey loop deck that is equipped with an effective Birthing Pod package. My original goal when brewing this build was to be as fast and interactive as possible. With an average CMC currently sitting at 1.82, this is surely possible. Originally this deck was equipped with a Flash + Protean Hulk package, but with the recent banning of Flash, a few slots have opened up. This gave an opportunity to include more draw, ramp, and interaction, freeing up a few potential "dead" cards from the deck.

I chose Tana, the Bloodsower over Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder for a couple reasons. The first was that they are interchangeable when used with Birthing Pod. Both are a 4 CMC creature, that can be saced for Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. The next was that Tana has a more relevant effect whereas Tarl's ability to give lifelink and doublestrike, is not so much. At very worst Tana can create some blockers. They're also sac able targets with Birthing Pod. Additionally, they can also be equipped with Skullclamp to help draw.

The biggest down side to using Tana over Tarl, is that Tana doesn't give the option to use white like Tarl does. With that being said, being sans white doesnt actually impact what this deck is trying to do. We lose out on few hate bears, a couple tutors and a potential birthing pod route. But since the deck is sans White and Black, it allows for a more consistent color assembly. For the most part, the deck consists mostly of + spells. With the being used mostly for the win condition. Knowing this, makes it that much easiar to fix your mana accordingly during the early game. Since this deck is only three colors, ramps extremely well, and has a low average CMC, it enables it to use fewer lands than normal, ultimately freeing up some more space for interactions

The main gameplan revolves around two main concepts.

  1. Achieving an arbitrarily large amount of mana or sometimes called "Infinite Mana". After that is achieved there are multiple ways that we can utilize it such as drawing our deck and casting Thassa's Oracle or initiating a Timetwister loop

  2. The other concept is running through Birthing Pod lines that lead up to a Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo

One of the best parts about this deck is is that its ramps incredibly well. And conveniently, most of our individual mana rocks and dorks can be used as a combo piece in some way or another. There are multiple ways that this deck can achieve a large amount of mana.

  1. Basalt Monolith + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy

  2. Birds of Paradise + Freed from the Real + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy

  3. Birds of Paradise + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Pemmin's Aura

  4. Freed from the Real + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Sylvan Caryatid

  5. Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Pemmin's Aura + Sylvan Caryatid

  6. Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Kiora's Follower + any creature that can create / or any artifact that can create a

  7. Freed from the Real + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Paradise Druid

  8. Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Paradise Druid + Pemmin's Aura

  9. Bloom Tender + Freed from the Real

  10. Bloom Tender + Pemmin's Aura

  11. Arbor Elf + Freed from the Real + a land that produces that's enchanted by Wild Growth and doesn't damage you

  12. Arbor Elf + Freed from the Real + a forest that is enchanted by Utopia Sprawl and with being the chosen color when Utopia Sprawl entered the battlefield

  13. Dockside Extortionist + Freed from the Real + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and enough artifacts controlled by opponents to produce a and any other mana when the Dockside Extortionist copy enters the battlefield

  14. Dockside Extortionist + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Pemmin's Aura and enough artifacts controlled by opponents to create a and anyother mana when the Dockside Extortionist enters the battlefield

  15. Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter + enough non-land permanents that can produce 3 or more mana

The Timetwister/Memory's Journey loops are only possible after 2 main conditions are met.

The first, is to be able to produce an arbitrarily large amount of mana.

The second, is to have a draw outlet for which we can use with the large amount of mana. Luckily, this condition just so happens to be sitting in our command zone. Our Commander Thrasios, Triton Hero has an activated ability on her body that allows us to draw our deck when the mana is available.

Once those two conditions are met, we can initiate the loop. After our deck is drawn, we cast any enchantment, instant, or sorcery spell that doesn't exile after being cast, and respond to it with Swan Song. This creates a 2/2 swan. We then cast Timetwister to shuffle those cards back into our library which then can be redrawn by the timetwister effect, or by using our original draw outlet. We then repeat this combo to create an arbitrarily large amount of 2/2 swans that we can attack with for a lethal amount of damage once they overcome summoning sickness.

Timetwister can be replaced with Memory's Journey to produce the same loop. Memory's Journey allows you to shuffle three cards from your graveyard into your library, which you then just draw with your original outlet.
