An update of the second EDH deck I ever built, Nicol Bolas is back and better than ever. A casual deck with some massively destructive spells, attain dominance via devastation or damage from Bolas himself.

Flavor

It includes every version of Nicol Bolas, and is helmed by the original for style. He's legitimately devastating if he sticks, and opponents have a hard time recovering if he wipes their hand. Nicol Bolas, the Ravager   can command if you want something faster, but if you do I don't recommend putting the original Bolas into the 99. Swap it out with a sideboard card instead.

It also includes every Bolas story spotlight card available in these colors, other than Hour of Eternity and Hour of Glory, because I already run the respective gods for those.

It also includes some pseudo-spotlight cards like The Eldest Reborn and Cruel Ultimatum, and I've been considering Crux of Fate but I'm still not sure what I'd replace.

Play

In practice, this deck is a blast to play. So far most strategies have a hard time against it, and whether or not I win or lose is ultimately left up to luck of the draw later in the game. This deck has high synergy between cards, and can achieve some pretty nasty shenanigans. For the most part though, you'll just want to sit back and generate value, while countering the things that might directly affect you. It's a pretty resilient and flexible deck, so once you have good cards on the field or in hand you can do what you want. My recommendation is waiting to make huge, devastating plays and going from there.

Rings of Brighthearth is probably the biggest powerhouse in the deck. It affects your planeswalkers, your gods, the activated abilities of lands (Myriad Landscape to search for 4 lands, for example), etc. If you have 2 extra mana it does real work, and its not limited in application like The Chain Veil or Illusionist's Bracers. It's also a relatively unassuming artifact that can't do anything by itself, so it will be ignored if you have something more obviously dangerous, like Planar Bridge or Thran Temporal Gateway (both of which can be Brighthearth'd for double the trouble).

Mastermind's Acquisition is flexible and dangerous in that flexibility. You can either search something in your deck if you don't have a combo available, OR sideboard in a missing combo piece based on what you have. It can also grab a situational card from your sideboard that might not be in the main deck, though this is unlikely. I like having the answers I need already in the deck, so the second mode of this card can fetch combo pieces like it was meant to in the story.
