"Prior to the Conflux, Progenitus reunited into five heads, telling Mayael to build up an army to counteract Sarkhan Vol's invasion of dragons." - History of Alara

Midrange Ramp deck, using Mayael as an engine but not reliant on her to get big creatures into play. The deck is not focused on aggro, but more about getting value out of its creatures and creating an escalating army that can power through multiple opponents in the midgame. If Mayael is removed repeatedly, as she often is, the deck provides enough mana ramp to hard-cast the majority of its creatures.

When playing the deck, you generally want to ship back all fatties and aim for an opening hand of lands and mana rocks/acceleration. Try to cast Mayael as early as possible, and then use a tutor to grab Seedborn Muse. Mayael + Seedborn allows you to cheat something into play on each player's turn.

I've seen some other Mayael lists run a protection suite, but I've never been impressed by running Lightning Greaves and/or Swiftfoot Boots in this deck. All of those protection items miss on a Mayael activation, often times are insignificant due to the number of wraths played in multiplayer EDH, and good deck design means you should be able to play cards without relying on your commander.

Cutting Basalt Monolith for Gilded Lotus. Every turn in EDH counts, and there are too many times when I could have cast a Lotus instead and don't want to be investing 3 mana every turn to untap the Monolith. The Monolith is good for fast starts, but I'm starting to realize more and more people are gunning for Mayael and to not rely on her so much, so the fast start isn't really that powerful.

Utvara Hellkite has also been prohibitive as an 8-mana 6/6 flier. The ability is too win-more to be running in this deck, so I'm replacing it with Inferno Titan.

Hoard-Smelter Dragon has also been incredibly underwhelming for me. The 4 mana activation cost is really restrictive since we don't really want mana sinks in our deck. I've replaced it with Thragtusk because we take a lot of damage from our lands, Vault, and Crypt and we don't have many ways to gain life back.

Windbrisk Raptor also had to go. I know it's ironic to throw in Thragtusk because we need more ways to gain life and then cut a creature that gains us life conditionally, but Raptor just isn't good enough in a lot of losing situations. There's a Shattergang player in my playgroup that does an insane job of keeping Mayael out of play early on and then controlling the board with tokens and sac'ing. I've decided to reevaluate the power of Avenger of Zendikar and will be putting it back in the deck.

Chrome Mox also needs to go because it contributes to us entering topdeck mode fast and is negative card advantage if removed. I've put in Wheel of Fortune because I've been wanting it in my deck for some time.
