A fresh Kresh for your face

Maybeboard

I'm currently de-tutoring this list for more fun/casual style of play.

Cards removing and recent changes:

I'm hoping to add some card draw variants with sac outlets. Hopefully Mazirek to pump other creatures up to get more value out of Stalking Vengeance and possibly Greater Good. Considering switching out Sepulchral Primordial (a pet card) for Butcher of Malakir for more consistent creature sacrificing.

I've had someone actually request me to write how to play this deck on reddit, so I'm going to copy and paste my comments from there to here.

Midrange Kresh, once it gets going, it's hard to stop.

But I've been playing Kresh for about 4 years now, he'll always be my main deck so here it goes.

First off, in heavy removal meta you're always going to see hate and that's going to be your struggle. If people are just hating out Kresh the moment he hits the board you're going to have a hard time. To combat this, I'd sub in cards like Fling , Soul's Fire , and Flesh / Blood because you're going to need to punish people who target Kresh.

One of the hardest parts about playing Kresh is finding the right time to actually put him on the board. If there are zero threats on the board and you just play him on turn 4, he's just going to get removed. If you wait too long, you're not going to be able to be effective. You need the other players to become threats first, so when you play Kresh they can't justify blowing up a vanilla 3/3 over someone like Krenko.

You have to convince people that your 3/3 is just not worth it - hell, he doesn't even have trample. Even if he's a 50/50 you can chump him.

Also, don't count on people to remove other peoples creatures for you. My deck is built around sacrifing my own tokens for counters or grave pact effects.

Don't be afraid to kill people. I sometimes have to kill one player way earlier than others just because I know they're someone who will become a problem for me later on due to being a late game control deck who will either combo out or just shut Kresh down entirely. It feels mean, but in order to actually win sometimes you just have to do it.

My mulligans are generally searching for a token generator like Awakening Zone , Creakwood Liege , or Rakka Mar . Early game, I'll tutor for Bear Umbra . If I can start setting up a board of little dorks that I can sac later on I'll be in a great position to end the game when I tutor for Chandra's Ignition . Rishkar's Expertise can also find Chandra's Ignition if Kresh is already huge.

If you have Prossh, I'll find Dictate of Erebos so I can just wipe the board and swing.

Sidisi, Undead Vizier will find me Blasphemous Act most of the time, and hopefully at this point Kresh is large enough to survive the damage from it. It's really great if you can pod into her from Rakka Mar or Falkenrath Aristocrat.

The biggest creature threat in the deck is easily Olivia Voldaren and I'll tutor for her with Signal the Clans always. (Generally along with creatures like Acidic Slime or Falkenrath Aristocrat, depending) She pressures opponents to take care of her or forfeit their creatures, which takes pressure off of Kresh.

The most consistent win con is Chandra's Ignition, but I'll run people over a lot of time with just Kresh himself. The games where I'm just swinging for the win I'll tend to be holding onto a Heroic Intervention . If you have Prossh and Dictate, you can almost always make people sac their entire board and swing for the kill.
