"Is Everybody Tapped Out?" -Archmage Eternal

Commander / EDH Five Color

Ryland7

My favorite 5-color commander out of Dominaria, Matt Mercer himself.

I absolutely love playing this deck and cheating out big spells with Jodah, Archmage Eternal, or Fist of Suns. It's gone through many changes since it's construction last year, and it's almost getting to the final draft. I'm not looking for this deck to be incredibly competitive as I only play with friends, but I do want it to be as consistent as possible. I try to ramp to 9 mana in a combination that lets me cast Jodah, and then cast a big cmc spell for WUBRG asap. From there I try to get creatures like Nezahal, Primal Tide, Etali, Primal Storm, Bringer of the Blue Dawn, Bringer of the Black Dawn, or Rashmi, Eternities Crafter for card draw/advantage, and playing spells from our opponents libraries on with Etali triggers (I usually get ramp spells when I get this trigger, but I never complain about that in this deck).

If we're not drawing creatures, we're trying to play extra turn cards. Cards like Time Stretch and Expropriate are ridiculously expensive cmc-wise yes, but hopefully I'm using my commander's ability as opposed to hard-casting them. We also run Time Warp and Nexus of Fate for more extra turns. Now I know it takes a certain level of evilness and degeneracy to play extra turn cards, but when we're able to cast them for WUBRG in the early game, it's too hard to resist. Plus an added benefit to the first two are their high cmc when I have Sunbird's Invocation or Rashmi, Eternities Crafter (if it's my first spell cast) on the field. Flipping the top ten cards of our library and casting a card with cmc ten or less leads to some dirty plays with Sunbird's (and sometimes more extra turn cards). Rashmi is nice because I'll usually be able to cast the revealed spell, but on the off chance I can't it goes directly to my hand.

Smothering Tithe, Brass's Bounty, and Revel in Riches are my treasure-based win-con cards (have yet to play with Smothering Tithe and Revel in Riches in the deck). The hope is to have plenty of treasures with RiR on the board before casting an extra turn card.

Twilight Prophet I run for the Ascend ability on her. With the city's blessing, I have a good chance of flipping a high cmc card, gaining a good amount of life while draining my opponents for the same amount, and getting card advantage out of it. Paired with Bringer of the Black Dawn I can setup the top card of my library with any high cmc card like Time Stretch, Myojin of Seeing Winds, Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, In Garruk's Wake, Zacama, Primal Calamity, Expropriate, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, or Aminatou's Augury just to name a few decent choices. Of course this setup all depends on the current board my opponents have built.

Golos, Tireless Pilgrim is a card that I have been really wanting to try out in this deck. I think he could be better as the commander, because of his ETB and being able to recast him, but I also think he could work well in the 99. His ability is especially good when I have a mana doubler like Mirari's Wake or Zendikar Resurgent on the field. He is another card that can really make a turn get nutty by hitting an extra turn card or something like Aminatou's Augury, or Rise of the Dark Realms (depending on graveyards).

Now Lightning Greaves, Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Archetype of Endurance are a few cards I run to help protect Jodah with hexproof/shroud and the indestructibility Avacyn provides. We also run a few counterspells being Negate, and good ol' Counterspell. The countermagic I think needs a bit more added to it i.e. Pact of Negation, and maybe a Swan Song, but I'm having trouble cutting for more counters. My playgroup absolutely despises Jodah being on the table so I'm always having to protect him from their removal. I've been considering running something like Dragonlord Dromoka or Conqueror's Flail or even Grand Abolisher to stop people from casting on our turn aka countering/removing my spells.

As always, I am open to suggestions and constructive criticism concerning the deck. I'm no expert when it comes to MtG so there are plenty of cards out there that I do not know about that could fit into this deck quite well I'm sure.
