Omnispell Adept Discussion

Gotcha, I think the Kytheon cards might be a flavor stretch, but Gideon is cool so why not.

The Omnispell Adept seems out of place as most of your instants and sorceries are pretty cheap.

I loved me some Court Hussar back in the day.

Divine Visitation goes great with Dovescape ?!?! Speaking of tokens, Pride of the Clouds is always great when you have extra mana.

Izz a bit of a nombo with the Amplifire. 4 out of 21 Creatures your first Amplifire might hit are good, the other 17 are 0, 1 or 2 Power and toughness. Izz funny Combo with Cyclops and Apex, but 10 Mana is too much to wait for. To keep the Spirit of the Deck, I suggest swapping Amplifire for Omnispell Adept .

So, this seems like a really fun take on Izzet, but I think it's a little too spread out to be consistent. I playtested a handful of draws and most of the time I was waiting till turn 4 or 5 to do anything. I was also short on mana enough times to warrant including 1 or 2 more lands in a deck with this high of casting costs. I also dislike Brass's Bounty in this deck because your land count is so low, you'll rarely have more than 4 lands in play. Yes, the Bounty is another target for the Adept, and a big buff to the Cyclops, but not a good payoff spell by itself. There are other juicy bombs I'd rather pay 7 mana for.

This is basically a combo deck, in that it needs to assemble the right combination of creatures and spells to have a big payoff turn. To that end, I'm fine with defensive cards like Erratic Cyclops and Omnispell Adept buying time and also functioning as combo enablers. I'd cut the Wee Dragonauts for the 4th copy of both of these creatures. It'll be tricky to try and chain Adept > Apex > Banefire/Explosion.

In playtesting, I never liked the Pirate's Pillage much, because it felt like it was too slow and came out too late. I'd rather have a faster draw card like Radical Idea to help ramp up the Runaway Steam-Kin faster. Lastly, I'd probably cut the Shock in favor of a 4th copy of Lava Coil and Lightning Strike, since these are your only removal spells to keep opponents at bay while you find your big spells.

Keep tweaking & testing the deck. I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

Cool, easy improvements:

73 cards mainboard as is.

Step 1: Sideboard out all of the negates but one (70 cards mainboard, 3 sideboard)

Step 2: Remove all copies of Tezzeret, Cruel Machinist, Sigiled Sword of Valeron, Drowned Secrets, Sinister Sabotage, Cancel, Timestream Navigator, Opt, and Omnispell Adept (56 cards mainboard, 3 sideboard)

Step 3: Sideboard out Selective Snare, The Immortal Sun, Amulet of Safekeeping, Essence Scatter, and Spell Pierce, (49 cards mainboard, 9 sideboard)

Step 4: Add in 2 copies of Wizard's Retort, 3 copies of Merfolk Trickster, 3 copy of Warkite Marauder, 3 copies of Curious Obsession, 2 copies of Exclusion Mage. (62 cards mainboard, 9 sideboard)

Step 5: Drop 2 Islands, add in 3 copies of Blink of an Eye, and 3 copies of Dive Down to the sideboard. (60 cards mainboard, 15 sideboard)

That will make this deck a standard powerhouse (well about as much of one as mono-blue tempo is right now!)

TCG prices estimate these will total cost $25.42 and will make it a fully meta deck! Full sideboard included ;)

So ladies and gentlemen I need help. I'm a returning player after like 12 years, and currently only doing drafts (Ravnica so I've got tons of RNG commons). I put below yet to-be a deck for playing standard at my LGS.

Can you please suggest what goes in main and what goes side-board? What do I need?

I may buy some more cards if I can find them at my LGS. Usually I can't, cause most of cards are out of stock. My budget to add more cards are like around $50 but please suggest what goes side-board what goes main...

Thank you very much in advance, I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet =p

let's make me a good deck out of these...

Cyric_std_1

the ones that didn't make to the deck are;

Timestream Navigator

Drowned Secrets x3

Omnispell Adept

Tezzeret, Cruel Machinist

Sigiled Sword of Valeron

Amulet of Safekeeping

The Immortal Sun

hmmm maybe I would add more card draw. Maybe drop the Weight of Memory for another River's Rebuke and Overflowing Insight.

The vod. arcanist could be replaced by another Omnispell Adept and perhaps more Patient Rebuilding. In the sideboard, Negate is better than Unwind i have found.
