Bringer of the Black Dawn

Creature — Bringer

You may pay (White)(Blue)(Black)(Red)(Green) rather than pay Bringer of the Black Dawn's mana cost.

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay 2 life. If you do, search your library for a card, then shuffle your library and put that card on top of it.

Bringer of the Black Dawn Discussion

I feel like Bringer of the Black Dawn is just an over costed Maralen of the Mornsong, but I understand why you left it out.

Tbh in terms of commander decks, they just don't seem that interesting for helms of the decks other than the fact that they have alternative costs similar to Derevi, Empyrial Tactician. They'd be really underwhelming if you couldn't have multiples tbh.

What if the Bringer cycle had been legendary?

Myself and three friends are going to find out in this week's match of our League. I am tied for last with my current rival. With the other two 3 points ahead. I was stuck with the Bringer of the Red Dawn.

As this is the ninth game, I am suffering deckbuilders fatigue. I am lacking inspiration for this deck. Maybe Aggravated Assaults, Threatens and Goblin Bombardments(free sacrifice outlets). What would you do with Bringer of the Red Dawn as your commander?

The two players tied for First have Bringer of the Green Dawn and Bringer of the White Dawn.

My rival has Bringer of the Blue Dawn. He is a Nekusar Main, so I assume he will go that route. With heavy emphasis on mass discard.

Bringer of the Black Dawn was left out for obvious reasons.

Ok to start off, you can't run Bringer of the Blue Dawn or Bringer of the Black Dawn because of color identity, which considers mana symbols anywhere on rules text, not just casting cost.

I think you did a pretty good job for a first deck.

You seem to be running a combination of really good cards and out of place shitty cards. Unless there is some combo or synergy you have with them that I'm missing I think the following cards are garbage and should be cut:

Colfenor's Plans Binding Grasp Transcendence Etherwrought Page Celestial Dawn Words of Wind Reap Intellect Necrologia

is Darksteel Forge just to protect the commander? run Lightning Greaves instead, it's waaaaay cheaper to play.

because it's a sorcery and it goes to top of library rather than hand Cruel Tutor is almost strictly worse than Diabolic Tutor

If your opponents are going off way faster than you then you need to think about how to upset their early game with hate pieces. In combo heavy metas cards like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Vryn Wingmare and Glowrider slow your opponents down enough to let you gain control of the situation Kambal, Consul of Allocation also gains you life to stick around as they cast themselves to death. for creature heavy metas cards like Archfiend of Depravity, Ophiomancer, forced sac like Butcher of Malakir Dictate of Erebos and Magus of the Tabernacle can really fuck over a lot of decks. For pure control, stax is usually the best option in competitive EDH since relying on counterspells and spot removal to keep 3 other players in check isn't feasible. I also always recommend some graveyard hate in any deck Nihil Spellbomb Relic of Progenitus Grafdigger's Cage Rest in Peace Tormod's Crypt Crypt Incursion Silent Gravestone are all good and cheap to play. I also personally put Necropotence in every black deck, It's so good it honestly should be banned. other good general control cards are Force of Will Pact of Negation Mystic Confluence and Cryptic Command.

I'm not really clear on the win con. Something like a Blightsteel Colossus, any of the preators, or a x mana life drain like Debt to the Deathless, Exsanguinate, or Torment of Hailfire could kill of opponents once you've stabilized the game.

This deck looks very cool and is certainly a great idea- might have to try this out sometime in the future! Just wanna point out to you that Bringer of the Black Dawn cannot be played in this deck since he has color symbols outside of rakdos colors in his abilities. This would only be playable here if those symbols were in a reminder text for an ability (such as extort) and not the ability, itself, thus it must be a 5 color deck for him to be in.

your lowest cost green creature for Green Sun's Zenith is your Maelstrom Archangel. certainly a good target, but unfortunately it'll likely be the "only" target. also curious why you didn't include Bringer of the Black Dawn or Fist of Suns.

I will suggest Jace's Archivist as a nice wheel. And I like Forced Fruition, it doesn't make you draw but if you play Nekuzar or other cards that hurt opponents when they draw.

Otherwise, sadly but I'm sorry you cannot play Bringer of the Black Dawn, his color identity is WURBG.

Love the old Ripper.. Have my own deck with him. I can definitely recommend Scarecrone.. It might lead you to run some additional Scarecrows, since it provides so much. Also if you're looking for more changelings you might consider adding Taurean Mauler. I also really like Maelstrom Nexus in this deck since you can cast your general for 5 mana, while he has a CMC of 10, and thus will cascade for 9 or less. Also coupled it with some of the Bringers, specifically Bringer of the Blue Dawn for draw, Bringer of the Black Dawn for tutor and Bringer of the White Dawn to recycle artifacts. If you're running 5 colors anyway, you might as well, right? ;)

Lastly, if you're here to lose friends, casting Rite of Replication on the Reaper King himself is also very good for that. You only get to keep one, but before that happens, you'll have 5 Reaper Kings seeing 4 other scarecrows enter the battlefield, and one seeing all 5 enter, so it will shoot 25 permanents right there and then. Ends up being the same number as the battlesphere, but you don't need Conspiracy in play for it.

Thanks for the feedback!

@Zauk: I think you were assuming my commander is Ramos, Dragon Engine, but I only used it as a placeholder until tappedout added Jodah, Archmage Eternal which is my actual commander.

Nevertheless, Composite Golem + Nim Deathmantle is a nice combo. For now I'll not include it because generating infinite mana kind of undermines the purpose of my commander, but I'll keep it in mind.

@ButterMyBiscuit: I did not wrap my head around it, but to make it more affordable you could cut the eldrazi lords and add some kraken or leviathans or whatever you like. And the fetchlands could maybe be cut for a manabase that is more forest-centered with some additional land-fetching sorceries and signets. Wiggyman's list looks promising, too.

@Wiggyman: thanks for all the suggestions!

Bringer of the Black Dawn, Blightsteel Colossus, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Progenitus, Expropriate, Insurrection, Eldrazi Conscription and It That Betrays are nice options. My focus was to include creatures with cast-triggers or with abilites that are conditional on the creature being cast like Hypnox, but I'll try to find slots for some of the cards you mentioned.

Maelstrom Wanderer was not included because in this deck it doesn't hit most of the powerhouses which have higher cmc than 7.

Omniscience is great, but I did not include it for now because it would undermine Jodah's role in the deck. Ultimately I'll have to add it, though.
