2022 Updates

The foremost aggro creature Queen Marchesa deck. I loved Queen Marchesa and the endless deck possibilities that could be created. Also, she puts me in Mardu, a combination of colors I wasn't familiar with. This list went through MANY iterations including: group slug, aikido, and life gain. I finally settled on what drew me to the Queen initially, here hasty deathtouch assassins. This deck aims to punish those who attack you while at the same time unleashing relentless creature swings. This deck is only continuing to focus on its mission of face smashing.

Im always open to suggestions, tell me what you think!

The Queen's Guard

Rattlesnakes:

  • Phyrexian Obliterator: This biggest rattle snake ever created in my opinion, if you attack into me while this is on the field you'll be sacrificing more than a few permanents.
  • Harvester of Souls: Creatures deaths are very common in games this game plays, why not benefit with card draw because of it. Deathtouch always blows this creature to trade up in value.
  • Kokusho, the Evening Star: Lifegain for me to get back in the fight, creating a 30 point life swing. I also run Nim Deathmantle solely for this card due to the outrageous combo with Ashnod's Altar.
  • Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs: a Queen Marchesa staple; creates a great creature based pillowfort effect that this deck loves.
  • Archfiend of Depravity: A great flyer that reduces the angles opponents can come at you with. This card took the place of crawl space.

Token producers:

These creatures are an extension our Rattlesnake section. Deathtouch token generation is wonderful, players really value creatures in EDH and being able to trade up efficiently in every situation is a key theme in this deck.

  • Queen Marchesa: She is a wonderful Bitterblossom effect that goes unrecognized in most Queen Marchesa deck lists. The use of these tokens really allows you to use the Monarchy as a bribe tool in most games. I can pay a player off in most games and regain the Monarchy with any of these token assassins.
  • Ophiomancer: This creature makes a token potentially on each players upkeep. I have the ability to consistently block with a creature and not be open for follow up attacks by other opponents.
  • Ogre Slumlord: Another great token generator to be fuel for the bitter blossom strategies. Also after board wipes it trades out to six rat tokens I can play with.

Creature Beatdown

This needs to potentially do 120 damage to win a game by itself; these are the cards to do it.

  • Zurgo Helmsmasher: The OG Commander beatdown, a hasty 7/2 creature is what this deck wants. Its indestructibility is a huge plus and can usually can a power or two during a game.
  • Rakdos, Lord of Riots: Flying, Trample, 6/6 that can offer some ramp. The need to inflict damage before he can be cast can be a handcuff.
  • Iroas, God of Victory: Wonderful in any beatdown decks. When he is activated, can be a real game ender.
  • Urbrask the hidden: Another beatdown staple, creatures entering tapped and mine gaining haste can put me a whole turn ahead of opponents.
  • Ogre battle driver: Wonderful with any creature in this deck, being able to boost any tokens that enter a huge plus. The haste continues to get ahead of opponents.

The Last Turn

The culmination of what this deck wants to do. When these creatures enter the field, opponents generally scramble for answers as life points are dropping.

  • Gisela, Blade of Goldnight: This creature not only takes the target off of you by halving any damage you may receive but can really finish off opponents with low life totals.
  • Avatar of Slaughter: My creatures are bigger and badder than anything else of the battlefield. This card causes quite a bit of chaos which makes great games. An 8/8 with double strike that boosts all of my other creatures is key.
  • Combat Celebrant: The baby combat phase creature. At 3 CMC he can come in out of no where and do great damage if he's given haste.
  • Scourge of the Throne: A flying, dethrone, 5/5 that can repeat combat phases
  • Aurellia, the war leader: Another flying combat phase repeater that has haste attached.

Miscellaneous

These cards are just items that really push the deck to success. From card draw to double strike these cards bridge the gap to a win.

____ Enters tapped

An easy way to frustrate opponents and leave them open for attacks. - Authority of the Consuls: Opponents creatures come in tapped with a small life gain crutch - Blind Obedience: Creatures and artifacts enter tapped and I can extort for small life gain. - Thalia, Heretic Cathar: Creatures and nonbasic lands enter tapped attached to a first strike creature I can swing with.

Sunforger

An excellent Marchesa staple, Creatures get a boost and an instant opportunity to search for possible answers.

Other

  • gravepact: The card that really utilizes the token generation this deck has
  • Dictate of Erebos: The addition of flash to Dictate of Erebos really surprise opponents as I move to attack.
  • Grave Betrayal: Hijack the creatures that die on my opponent's side. This card is also looking for a replacement, i haven't made it shine in too many games.
  • duelist heritage: This card really gains its value each turn and i have the opportunity to play with politics as i give my opponent's creatures double strike.
  • Trove of Temptation: The newest addition to this deck, not only does it give me ramp it sets me up to play with Marchesa's Monarch ability. I can generate deathtouch tokens and later block with them, removing threats.
  • Disrupt Decorum: I put this card in instead of Master of Cruelties because I'm trying to have fun when I play magic and other players are too. This might be the single most fun card in the deck, everyone gets hurt but me.
