This deck can’t beat the shit out of you without getting closer. So, this is my take on the new card Dragon's Approach in EDH. There are very few dragons in the list, I'm just trying to abuse the mechanic of having multiple copies in my deck since the spell itself isn't awful. There are a lot of cards you can play in a deck like this that you can't profitably in other decks, which really appeals to me.

Dragon's Approach is odd converted mana cost (or mana value now). It goes well together. That's really it. You could probably go Kess for more recursion but I'm trying to power out quicker wins.
The goal of this deck is to cast Dragon's Approach or copy it as many times as possble. There are a few value dragons but they aren't really the main theme. It's a psuedo-storm deck for me.
These cards help me win faster by giving me more copies of Dragon's Approach or by increasing my damage.

These cards help me get cards back from my graveyard or play them from there in case they are countered, milled, destroyed, or discarded.
These are board wipes. Most decks need them.
These cards let me find other cards I need. Feel free to play less of these if you don't like tutors, but I'm playing basically a soft combo deck, and since Rakdos isn't known for its draw power, I have tutors to find what I need for an appropriate situation.
  • There are obviously a lot of expensive cards here that I just already own that make the deck more powerful. If you can't or don't want to play these, I understand.
  • My suggestion would be to adjust to your local meta at that point. If you need more board wipes, add more budget board wipes. Same for spot removal or maybe hand disruption. Any expensive tutor can just be Dark Petition, Diabolic Tutor, Insidious Dreams, or whichever budget tutor suits your fancy.
  • Dockside Extortionist, Neheb, and Goldspan Dragon can just be mana rocks, although Birgi, Storm-Kiln, and Runaway Steam-Kin are relatively crucial to storming off successfully. For land budget cuts, just run more basics or taplands.
  • There is honestly no budget replacement for a lot of the recursion spells, but I would say in that case just add more copies of Dragon's Approach because if you're running lower on other utility cards, just having more raw ways to cast your win condition is useful too.
Thanks for stopping by and reading this or just checking out the list. If you like it, I appreciate imaginary internet points in the form of upvotes or comments. As always I'm open to suggestions as this is a rough draft. And if you see anyone else building around this card in commander, let me know cause I'll want to see it.

Updates Add

Added Dragons who may not approach, fixed the card advantage a bit, and added more copies of the namesake card. MH2 is looking really sweet, definitely looking into some cards for that. This isn't going to be a full changelog now since I'm still heavily tweaking the deck but I think after this I may start implementing a changelog because the changes will just be minor changes by set and no massive overhauls anymore.
