Attempt #1 of Control/Stax Mairsil.

GOAL

Attempt to pair Mairsil, the Pretender up with AEtherling, then lock-down resources. Mairsil has a lot of potential to break parity in a resource deprived environment. With help from just a few cages, he'll be drawing cards (Arcanis the Omnipotent), generating mana (Gilded Lotus), and controlling the board (Minion of Leshrac, Dralnu, Lich Lord). With his somewhat unique ability to self-flicker, this opens the doorway for Apocalypse and Jokulhaups to be very relevant inclusions.

NOTABLE INCLUSIONS

The 'combo' this deck runs is Quicksilver Elemental. This, caged along side Gilded Lotus and Staff of Domination generates infinite draws / life / mana. From here we can be a little creative to win the game. For example, codex shredder + leyline + wheels will exile our opponents entire library/hands.

OTHER STUFF:

Runs Notion Thief / wheels as a pseudo win-con that doesn't require having Mairsil online.

Some subtleties:

Transmute Artifact can be used to tutor artifacts to graveyard by failing to pay the difference.

Gamble has nearly zero downside except when looking for a land-wipe.

Chains of Mephistopheles seems exceptionally strong in this. Its great that Mairsil uses the grave as a resource, but doesn't actually leave himself exposed to GY hate.

Goblin Welder is well positioned in this deck... can be used on his own or be caged by Mairsil. Main purpose is enabling winter orb and static orb. With the numbers of wheels and discard effects the deck runs, being able to access the mana locks in my graveyard seems worthwhile. Additionally, he can be used to break parity on our lock pieces by removing them before our untap and then bring them back.

Other thoughts:

2. Is Thousand-Year Elixir worth the spot?
