Life gain triggers abound. This deck contains everything with Extort, several Soul Warden 's and Blood Artist's, and several other things that give you life. This means that Karlov of the Ghost Council gets big fast, giving you plenty of room for commander damage or using him for his removal ability. All this life gain also means that you can take a few hits, because let's face it, you're weenie army isn't gonna help any in defense.

I'm considering replacing Ajani's Mantra with any of Kraken's Eye, Wurm's Tooth , or Dragon's Claw as appropriate, based on who I'm playing against.
