What is a Derevi deck?

Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is such a powerful commander that most decks use the "build around" idea with her. That means that most of the decks she commands are designed to utilize her abilities as much as possible. Derevi is a powerful build around card, as her ability to untap a permanent can do many powerful things. It is important, however, to not focus too much on finding cards that have a tap ability, but to develop a synergy so that the deck works as a cohesive whole.

Deck Overview

This is tuned Derevi deck designed for 4-player Free for All. It focuses on how Derevi can be used to play the deck to its fullest potential. People may notice the small number of tap abilities in this deck, and that's because I've focused on having strong synergies with a few powerful tap abilities and abusing them. This is also a control deck, as competitive EDH games require you being able to stop others from winning if they're faster than you, or if they try to stop you from winning.

The Deck

Win Conditions

Infinite Combos:

• Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth + Ashnod's Altar + Bloom Tender + Derevi, Empyrial Tactician : both of these provide infinitie colorless mana.

• Use either of these with Blue Sun's Zenith to deck your opponent's.

Beatdown:

• Craterhoof Behemoth + Elspeth, Sun's Champion : getting a lot of tokens from Elspeth then hitting Craterhoof will provide a massive amount of damage.

• Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite: this card can single-handedly swing a game in your favor. All of your creatures get boosted, and your opponent's creatures lose power. That swing will often be lethal.

• Derevi, Empyrial Tactician + Swords: Each of the swords will give Derevi a power boost towards commander damage, and give him protection from the strongest creature-killing spells in EDH.

Other:

• Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur + Reliquary Tower : the sheer card advantage from this is epic, most opponent's will concede if this happens, as they will be unable to do anything.

• Jace, the Mind Sculptor: his ultimate is lethal, and though he becomes a massive target, he has insane power in the deck.
