Welcome to my latest commander deck featuring the Boros guildmaster, Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice

Lets be honest, Boros is hardly lacking in 'combat matters' commanders. Sure, she overall isn't as strong as Aurelia, the Warleader 's ability but what makes the latest version of Aurelia an interesting card to build around is her ability. The inclusion of Mentor is the icing on the cake.

While her base power is a little low, only clocking in at 2, making triggering Mentor a bit of a challenge. To combat this, we run a small Voltron package to ramp her base power up enough she doesn't need to target herself for the additional power for Mentor to trigger. The general inclusion of Sword of Fire and Ice , Sword of Feast and Famine and Sword of Light and Shadow isn't a surprise but they can non-bo with our commander, as granting protection from White and Red means we can't target with Aurelia's ability. The only interesting inclusion is Tenza, Godo's Maul which for a single mana, equips and give 3 additional power.

Now for the thing Boros does best, combat! Most Aurelia decks I have seen pretty much run Double Strike tribal but I wanted to try a different spin on the deck as mentioned earlier. To try and keep the Mentor theme a little alive, I added a few Boros coloured creatures like Tajic, Legion's Edge along with Truefire Captain . We also have great targets for Mentor in Swiftblade Vindicator , Prophetic Flamespeaker and Figure of Destiny to mention a few. Abzan Falconer and Ainok Bond-Kin add fantastic synergy with the Mentor ability to our creatures lacking the advertised keyword. Since we run a semi-voltron approach, both the famous Stoneforge Mystic and the lesser known Relic Seeker both help us tutor for whatever equipment we need. Since our creatures are the lifeblood of the deck we need to protect them as best as we can from board wipes. for this, we have Legion's Initiative , Boros Charm and Make a Stand , the latter two being able to be tutored by our beloved Sunforger .

To slow our opponents down we have a decent amount of removal. The classic Path of Exile and Swords to Plowshares combo couldn't be missed out. Fell the Mighty is a great board wipe to include here with Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice 's low power and Blasphemous Act works well with our Boros Reckoner and Truefire Captain to add some extra bite to our wipe.

Where Boros is notoriously weak is in card draw. To try remedy this, I've included a variety of cards to slowly build our card advantage up. The flip side of Conqueror's Galleon   allows us to sink mana into draw and a some small graveyard recursion. Skullclamp is the standard for token decks and this deck is no different! Ghirapur Orrery is quiet enough to fly under the radar and it provides a benefit to our opponents, meaning they are unlikely to remove it. With Boros lacking card draw, we can often end up drawing 3 cards a turn. Finally, you can play some great politics with Risk Factor in exchange for the card draw.
