Bomb Has Been Planted: 50€ Budget Ukkima Voltron

Commander / EDH Aggro Budget BUG (Sultai) Infect Voltron

Chiefson

Maybeboard

Hello there,

this is a budget Ukkima, Stalking Shadow Equipment Voltron Deck. I call it 'The Bomb Has Been Planted'. The idea is to make Ukkima big with equipments. Once you surpass a potential 10 infect damage, one player will instantly die when Ukkimas leaves the battlefield ability triggers. So if someone tries to remove that unblockable infect monster, they will pay with losing the game. When Ukkima leaves the battlefield, it deals X damage to target player and you gain X life, where X is its power. 10 strength is too much to ask? You can threaten to kill one player quite early with just 5 combat infect damage and then threatening with 5 possible ltb infect damage.

Cards like Dimir Infiltrator are a cheap way of tutoring for your missing pieces, like a sweet reusable Glistening Oil or a Powerup like Blackblade Reforged and also serves as a redundant evasion creature. Even if there is no infect available, don't forget to play agressively and spread commander and normal damage with attacks and the ltb ability. Equipments allow you to recover to full strength quickly, once your bomb has gone BOOM. Card draw, ramp, protection and so on are mostly budget friendly and staying within the theme of dealing damage to enemy player and equipments/artifacts in general. Cards like Whispering Madness allows you to get back into the game once you ran out of gas. Play your cheap equipments before wheeling, so you always come out ahead. Artificer's Assistant gives you some important card selection and insane value with over 30 artifacts, as well as beeing a redundant evasion creature. I tried to include smooth synergies without expensive or over the top combos.

Deck costs are around 50€ at cardmarket including shipping at the time I'm writing this, using played cards as well (language = english + german). Medium played flagged cards are cards I already own, but they are cheap anyway. I'm sure you got some of the cards at home already as well. Update: Cost was less than 52€ total. Playtest will soon follow.

Please share your thoughts, I'd really love to hear your ideas and critics! The deck is a bit short on interactions right now, but I hope it still works due to some politics with the kill threat. My other big fear is mass artifact destruction. Padeem, Consul of Innovation might help early and Emry, Lurker of the Loch later, but we'll have to find out by testing. Cards in the Maybeboard flagged heavily played are great upgrades, but don't always fit the budget. The land basis is not optimal, but it works just fine and is cheap. Improving the mana base with cards like Birds of Paradise as well as some dual lands + green mana dorks will allow you for a turn 2 Ukkima, which will be a big improvement, but I'd like to start on budget. There are some ways of activating the ltb ability by bouncing/sacrificing Ukkima, but there are plenty more budget options. If your opponent removes it for you, you can play more equipments instead.

Update: Cost was less than 52€ total. Playtest will soon follow.
