This is my spell-based Nekusar Wheels deck. The general strategy of the deck is to prioritize ramping with mana rocks and then to use the resources that are immediately available to you. The point of this deck is to win as fast as possible with wheel effects and deal damage with draw and discard effects. I made this deck spell based because it's easier to remove permanents, like what happens with other Nekusar decks. Most other Nekusar decks are too reliant on overly-costed enchantments/creatures and removing Nekusar turns those cards into pure card advantage for your opponents or they end up doing nothing and you wasted mana on them, which is something you don't want to do. I've kept the average cmc of this deck purposely low in order to allow spells to chain more often. The deck does not require Nekusar to win as Megrim effects and a couple wheels suffice as a win-con. The mana cost reducers and redundancy with wheels and copy effects allow for the pilot to chain wheels one turn after the other. Probably my most fun deck to date.

Notable Cards:

  • Kess, Dissident Mage : Recently added this in and don't know why I didn't add her in since she was released. Being able to reuse the wheels that were discarded into your graveyard or recently cast is extremely powerful. Evasion means that Whispering Madness ciphered onto Kess is more likely to trigger, and can possibly eat removal over your commander. Without Nekusar but with a discard life loss outlet, she can be your alternate wincon. One of my favorite cards in the deck.

  • Sakashima the Impostor : What's better than one Nekusar? Two Nekusars, but one of them is still named Sakashima.

  • Tainted Strike : Give Nekusar infect with a good Windfall or two wheels and it's game over.

  • Curiosity : Pay 1 blue mana and draw at least 6 cards in one turn cycle. Insane card advantage. I'm not putting in Niv Mizzet bc 6 cmc to combo off isn't ideal to me and isn't synergistic with the wheels plan I'm going for.

  • Waste Not : One of the strongest enchantments in the deck. One wheel could possibly allow you to chain successive wheel effects one after the other with each new hand and with the lands your opponents discard with each wheel effect. One or two wheels with this card out is usually a win.

  • Time Spiral : Arguably the best wheel in the deck next to Wheel of Fortune. This wheel untaps 6 lands and allows you to chain another wheel after it resolves with your new hand.

  • Rebuild : It seems like a questionable card, right? Why would you want to bounce your artifacts in an artifact-heavy deck? Because it lets you have a larger hand size to make Windfall effects more devastating. Most decks run artifact ramp and neutering your opponent's mana bases is an added bonus to making bigger Windfalls. Float your mana in response to casting Rebuild and wheel them away to victory or a fresh set of cards to rewheel with. Serves a similar purpose to an overloaded Cyclonic Rift except cheaper since you can follow up with more spells. Could potentially cost only U or 1U with your cost reducers.

Special Mentions:

  • Torpor Orb : This is in here since a majority of decks will take advantage of ETB creatures/effects and Torpor Orb will shut those down. Said decks will focus on removing this card, meaning your other more valuable artifacts and enchantments will be more likely to stick around for longer. This card is just a win-win situation.

  • Simian Spirit Guide : I personally think this card belongs in most if not all red decks. There's always that one extra mana you could use and allows for a large flexibilty in plays. Double red spells become easier to cast when you wheel into them and at worst gives you an early turn Nekusar.

  • Nightscape Familiar : Reads "all your wheels are one less to cast, all your UR spells are two less to cast". Has protection, allows for an early game Nekusar, just an all-around great card.

  • Boomerang : Amazing tech against pesky permanents such as Glacial Chasm . Following up with a wheel gives you more turns to deal damage or get rid of permanents you just bounced. I had Chain of Vapor in here before but replaced it for Boomerang.

Other thoughts:

I wanted to keep the CMC of this deck as low as possible in order to be able to cast with a new hand after using a wheel effect, hence why cards such as Price of Knowledge isn't here even though it's really good in this sort of deck.

Foiling out the deck:

I have 63/92 foiled, 8 do not have foil versions. Eventually I wanna get the Judge Promo versions of the cards I have here if there is a JP foil of a card in my list but that's an even longer term goal, lol

Updates Add

Took out Psychosis Crawler for Memory Jar to focus more on the discard theme, and Dark Deal for Khorvath's Fury. Dark Deal is the worst wheel in the deck but I still wanna be able to put this back in. Deck is now at 62/92 foils!! It's getting harder and harder to foil out these remaining cards.
