Symbiotic Elf

Creature — Elf

When Symbiotic Elf is put into a graveyard from play, put two 1/1 green Insect creature tokens into play.

Intriguing! Just want to ask a few questions about the enchantments ( Faces of the Past , Intruder Alarm ) since I'm not sure I completely grasp 100% how it elfball infinites. I think only Thornbite Staff completely works 100% of the time since it doesn't discriminate and doesn't care what type of creature dies, only if something does die; Vannifar's ability doesn't matter and we can do whatever we want, including a Lab Man win if Pod 2 is Elvish Visionary and Pod 4 is Symbiotic Elf . My understanding is:

  • Faces of the Past : works until the second round of Pods, then you Pod Elvish Soultiller to reset the Elves like normal, untap Vannifar... but then what? If you were to pod Woodland Bellower (which came as a result of Podding the Soultiller), you wouldn't untap Vannifar since she isn't a Beast, and you wouldn't be able to find anything since there is no CMC 7 cost things here. How would the combo continue?

(I thought about it for a while when I was writing this and there is indeed an infinite as long as the Pod 2 is ALWAYS Dwynen's Elite as the Elf token can be sacrificed after Soultiller to restart the chain, then ending with a Pod into Caller of the Claw for infinite Beasts, but we need Concordant Crossroads out to win right then and there and lose to Cyclonic Rift , Propaganda and friends, etc... thoughts?)

  • Intruder Alarm : Same logic; works until the second round of Pods, you Pod the Soultiller and reset the Elves, but since there is no other 6 cmc creature here, nothing would ETB and untap Vannifar. Aside from manually summoning a creature (ramp from Wood Elves as the Pod 3 in the chain is good) or using one of the untap abilities from stuff like Quirion Ranger and Kiora's Follower etc, is there a way to make the combo self sustaining with Intruder Alarm ?

If I'm also missing something here please let me know!

Hi! I am building a Mazirek deck too (Mazirek Bodybuilder)!

Like your build - insect tribal is a nice idea!

I think token producers such as Ant Queen and Beacon of Creation and of course the symbiotics - Symbiotic Elf, Symbiotic Beast and Symbiotic Wurm are too good not include.

A few quick things :)

First, I hate to tell you this, but Composite Golem isn't legal in a UG deck. It has a color identity of 5-color, because it has all mana symbols in its text :( You can get the same effect with Ashnod's Altar + Symbiotic Elf, though!

Cost reduction works extremely well with morph, by the way. Dream Chisel and Semblance Anvil can make it cheaper to spit out a bunch of creatures. Muraganda Petroglyphs also pumps your face-down creatures.

I hope that helps a bit ;)

Mitotic Slime comes to mind. Reef Worm is sorta like that, but in the wrong colors. Abzan Ascendancy/Golgari Germination/Gutter Grime/Requiem Angel are sorta close, Belfry Spirit turns the creature it haunts into a card like that, Brindle Shoat, Tuktuk the Explorer and Doomed Dissenter just get bigger. Liege of the Hollows gives everyone squirrels when it dies. Symbiotic Elf, Symbiotic Beast, and Symbiotic Wurm turn into insects. Chasm Skulker explodes into a pile of squid (wrong colors again tho). Maalfeld Twins breaks apart into 2 zombies, and Mausoleum Guard into 2 spirits. Promise of Bunrei makes one of your dudes explode into spirits. Sporogenesis is kind of a cool card that makes your guys explode into saprolings on death. Sprouting Thrinax is good. Wurmcoil Engine is a popular one.Goblin Marshal/Mogg War Marshal makes goblins when he ETBs and dies. Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Hangarback Walker, and Hooded Hydra all work. Jotun Owl Keeper in blue again. Mongrel Pack is another one, as is Murder Investigation. Theres a whole bunch of "Penumbra" cards from odyssey that all make a black clone of themselves when they die (e.g Penumbra Wurm). Ulvenwald Mysteries turns each dead guy into a clue that it then turns into a soldier.

If I were to make a commander deck around this idea, I would go with a Jund, not Abzan, sacrifice deck led by Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper, or perhaps Shattergang Brothers. In addition to these you have a ton of guys that just make 1 token on death- Seed Guardian, Sifter of Skulls, Pawn of Ulamog, Tukatongue Thallid, Blisterpod, Myr Sire, etc.

Symbiotic Elf (or any other creature that makes two tokens upon entering the battlefield/death) + Ashnod's Altar + Nim Deathmantle makes infinite insects. Play the elf, sac it to the altar, float the mana, sac one insect, use that mana to attach the Deathmantle to the Elf.

MTG_Beginner on Infinite Token Deck Help

i'm building a combo deck built around infinite tokens.

The combo is Nim Deathmantle + Geist-Honored Monk/Symbiotic Elf + Ashnod's Altar.

Other than the main combo, I don't know what other combos could be added in or what other cards I could put in to stall until i get the combo going.

Any help is appreciated, after i get enough help i'll put together a test deck and post it here.
