Goblin Marshal

Creature — Goblin Warrior

Echo (4)(Red)(Red) (At the beginning of your upkeep, if this came under your control since the beginning of your last upkeep, sacrifice it unless you pay its echo cost.)

When Goblin Marshal enters the battlefield or is put into a graveyard from play, put two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens into play.

Two creature-based token makers that strike me as well-suited for commander are Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs and Nacatl War-Pride . Kazuul can either deter your opponents from attacking or give you tokens to block with; any that survive can be sac fodder for Thromak once you're ready to power him out. That the tokens are 3/3 seems relevant as well. War-Pride can give you a very wide attack, and since the tokens aren't exiled until end of turn, they can be devoured second main phase for a giant hellion. While looking at it tonight, I realized that giving extra combat steps with Aggravated Assault should cause each token to make tokens themselves. Further investigation revealed that the tokens would require haste to attack on any additional combat, but that's already worked into the deck anyway. Could be something to try? Sadly, I haven't gotten many games in with my deck, and don't think I've ever gotten to play either card, but they sound awesome to me in theory.

I also really like creatures that replace themselves when they die. Mitotic Slime is particularly awesome at this, as each time it dies it splits (after all, I don't care so much about the decreased p/t, but the increased creature count. More bodies to feed the beast!). I also run Blisterpod (gives an eldrazi token which can sac for mana), Brindle Shoat (gets bigger body upon death), Thragtusk (mm, taste the value!), Strangleroot Geist (comes back so long as it hasn't got a counter), and Wurmcoil Engine (not exactly a budget suggestion, but gives two bodies upon death). If you should go with a goblin subtheme, Mogg War Marshal and Goblin Marshal are possibilities, as well as Tuktuk the Explorer .

Ashnod's Altar + Nim Deathmantle + Goblin Marshal

I flipped marshal onto the field an altar a deathmantle on board. Sac'd his 2 goblins to float 4 colorless, sac'd marshal for another 2 colorless and another 2 goblin tokens, paid 4 to bring him back with deathmantle. Rinse and repeat.

Also, how about Goblin Marshal ? I've ordered a copy to try out in the one I'm making. It's 5 bodies for us to sac, and it's goblin, so can even sac to Prospector, for another infinite digger loop I think?

Evening, Gotreck. Haha! Well, okay... You've convinced me. I've tested it a bit, and I think I do want to put Goblin Marshal back in. You are right. I'm guaranteed those 4 tokens, and it works well with Panharmonicon and Krenko, Mob Boss. I'm quite honored that you took the time to write why I should change cards. Thank you.

ay.lobo i would change it because:

first: You get rid of the +2 devotion making purphoros more difficult to remove.

second: You can sacrifice it the moment it hits the battlefield dealing 10 damage in one turn, 15 if Impact Tremors is in the field or 20 with Panharmonicon.

third: You also get the sacrifice outlet value without getting punished. For example, 1 point of damage with Goblin Bombardment or 2 colorless mana from Ashnod's Altar. In my deck i also include Skirk Prospector which it gives you an insane amount of value, since you can also sacrifce the tokens that Goblin Marshal produce giving you 5 red mana to cast more stuff.

fourth: More goblin sinergy.

Fifth: With Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs people can still pay 3 mana to hit you or they can simply hit you because its not like Propaganda. To me it seems kinda slow since you have to wait for them to attack you to get value out of him because lets be real with an aggro deck like purphoros you deal damage a lot faster than your opponents so you dont really care about them attacking you.

Sorry for the long comment.

Mitotic Slime comes to mind. Reef Worm is sorta like that, but in the wrong colors. Abzan Ascendancy/Golgari Germination/Gutter Grime/Requiem Angel are sorta close, Belfry Spirit turns the creature it haunts into a card like that, Brindle Shoat, Tuktuk the Explorer and Doomed Dissenter just get bigger. Liege of the Hollows gives everyone squirrels when it dies. Symbiotic Elf, Symbiotic Beast, and Symbiotic Wurm turn into insects. Chasm Skulker explodes into a pile of squid (wrong colors again tho). Maalfeld Twins breaks apart into 2 zombies, and Mausoleum Guard into 2 spirits. Promise of Bunrei makes one of your dudes explode into spirits. Sporogenesis is kind of a cool card that makes your guys explode into saprolings on death. Sprouting Thrinax is good. Wurmcoil Engine is a popular one.Goblin Marshal/Mogg War Marshal makes goblins when he ETBs and dies. Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Hangarback Walker, and Hooded Hydra all work. Jotun Owl Keeper in blue again. Mongrel Pack is another one, as is Murder Investigation. Theres a whole bunch of "Penumbra" cards from odyssey that all make a black clone of themselves when they die (e.g Penumbra Wurm). Ulvenwald Mysteries turns each dead guy into a clue that it then turns into a soldier.

If I were to make a commander deck around this idea, I would go with a Jund, not Abzan, sacrifice deck led by Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper, or perhaps Shattergang Brothers. In addition to these you have a ton of guys that just make 1 token on death- Seed Guardian, Sifter of Skulls, Pawn of Ulamog, Tukatongue Thallid, Blisterpod, Myr Sire, etc.

I'd take out Goblin Marshal, for starters. Six mana for four power (or twelve mana for 5 power if you want to keep it) is just not worth it.
