4-0 FNM

JMullen, 11 years ago

This isn't probably a fair 4-0. I fought nothing but variants on G/r Monsters all night, and every Monster Deck stumbled on their third game. Overall, I'm happy with it's performance. Moved Selesnya Charm Maindeck after the end of the night, thinking about OotAW's replacement.

Cut the white, made it Dimir instead of Esper.

mercurial_golem, 11 years ago

I actually play tested it, against real people. It was terrible! I won, but only because it was a 3 way multiplayer. I finally drew a fifth land and played Phenax. Next turn I Equiped him and milled one opponent for 41 cards and passed turn. Can't remember how how i dealt with the second opponent's voltron, then swung for lethal damage.

The white just didn't work in the deck. I needed to filter better for land drops and combo pieces. Mana ramp might help, but I'm not sure if Springleaf Drum is the way to go...?

why you no FNM testing?

ketoryuu, 11 years ago

my local store is facing renovations so there was no fryday night, and there might be no FNM for me during some time... i'll try to meet up with some people for casual play, and post how it turned out.

Exeneva, 11 years ago

Switched from running control cards to stax-like board control. Controlling a board of 3 or more other players is hard without stax enchantments, as they can rebuild after wrath and will often come after you if you're playing lots of tutor cards. For these reasons, I've cut a lot of the tutors and replaced them with board control enchantments. The creature base has also been reworked to run more goodstuff type cards such as Sun Titan. This allows us to utilize beatdown plans such as flying beatdown with Magister Sphinx, Sharuum the Hegemon, and Sphinx of the Steel Wind.

Removed:
1x Abundant Growth don't think I'll need mana fixing
1x Acidic Slime nice to have but doesn't really help with my populate/token making idea
1x Advent of the Wurm hardest to cut still not sure if it was a good cut
1x Ajani Goldmane Don't think it is worth it just for his -6 ability
1x Angelic Accord Hard cut but I don't know if i'll be gaining enough life. Also 1 Angel token a turn is kind of slow IMO
1x Armadillo Cloak nice but unnecessary
1x Celestial Flare Doesnt work on indestructible and i will be able to hopefully overwhelm creatures by numbers
1x Crusader of Odric Added Eidolon instead cause I actually have it
1x Garruk Relentless  Flip Don't think I'll have many creatures in my graveyard
1x Gelatinous Genesis Great card which makes it a hard cut?
1x Into the Wilds Unnecessary IMO
1x Jade Mage Cost to much for a 1/1 token
1x Militia's Pride How many nontoken creatures will I really have attacking
1x Nearheath Pilgrim Not needed lifelink maker
1x Oblivion Ring Might want it for control but again I'm trying to overwhelm opponent so this is just an in the way card
1x Pacifism In the way of a populate/token card
1x Pendelhaven not a type of land needed in my deck
1x Primal Rage Would be nice but cuts need to be made
1x Primal Vigor because it could possible help my opponents just as much
1x Rancor great card but not for the deck
1x Ray of Revelation Not needed if i can get Aura Shards out
1x Sapseep Forest Life gain would be nice for thune and other combos but still meh
1x Triumph of Ferocity would be nice to have an extra draw but situational
1x Unflinching Couragefoil Same as armadilo cloak
1x Verdant Haven only real reason would be for life gain
1x Wild Growth love ramp but dont know how it will fit
Also removed all my mana ramping creatures:
1x Arbor Elf
1x Avacyn's Pilgrim
1x Birds of Paradise
1x Elvish Mystic
1x Fyndhorn Elves
1x Llanowar Elves
1x Noble Hierarch
1x Orochi Leafcaller

1x Slime Molding
1x Sprout Swarm

add:
1x Eidolon of Countless Battles to replace Crusader of Odric
1x Essence Warden another life gain for creature which I will hopefully have lots of
1x Path of Bravery the life gain and +1/+1 would be nice
1x Gutter Grime Might get rid of it cause IDK how many nontoken creatures I will have out
1x Druids' Repository This will help with populate/playing things

trades: In/out
1x Eidolon of Countless Battles / 1x Crusader of Odric

Thanks to the help of user:ghosthunter39, I've polished this deck up a bit. It's been playing pretty well.

I think I'm committed.

artakha, 11 years ago

Yep. I want to put green mana in this deck, and put in stuff that will benefit more. Since I just picked up the new Duel Decks today, and they had a lot of stuff I could use, like Vraska the Unseen and Rogue's Passage, I kind of figured it would be appropriate to throw them in when I get suitable green mana. My friend has another Vraska and a Temple Gardenfoil he's willing to sell to me, and if I can get a hold of them, I'll finally be able to put together a powerful deck. Then I can start putting in stuff like Putrefy instead of Doom Blade and Corpsejack Menace to multiply the counters from Archangel of Thune.

#3rd @ San Diego Games & Comics 4.4.14

sharkudi, 11 years ago

came in #3rd out of 48 people. only had 1 game loss heading into the final round

ROUND #1: Simic Evolve 2 - 0
GAME1 This guy's deck wasn't really competitive. a few Cloudfin Raptor and Renegade Krasis weren't enough to handle my army. GAME2 didn't sideboard at all and won easily again. Quickest matchup of the night.

ROUND #2: Jund Monsters 2 - 0

GAME1 He got me close game 1. i took out 2 of his Domri Rade but then he overloaded Mizzium Mortars and got me quite low on life. I was able to stabilize and once i got Ephara, God of the Polis online, it was over quickly.

GAME2 subbed in Doom Blade for Far / Away and won rather quickly after his Stormbreath Dragon ate the blade

ROUND #3: Mono Black Devotion 2 - 1

GAME1 this was the most fun matchup of the night. we went back and forth with creatures and removal, but Elspeth, Sun's Champion proved to be too much in the end.

GAME2 i got double Thoughtseize'd and 2 Lifebane Zombie took Ephara and and Obzedat, Ghost Council all i remember after that is i had a Brimaz, King of Oreskos and a Soldier of the Pantheon out to his single Lifebane Zombie with 7 life left when he was at 1. lifebane unblockable for 3. Gray Merchant of Asphodel for 4. gg.

GAME 3. it was another back and forth war, with my Spear of Heliod taking away an a creature each turn. we were both top decking for awhile after that coming up with no answers that would stick to the field, i eventually got a Brimaz, King of Oreskos to attack ftw.

ROUND #4: Boros Burn 2 - 0

GAME1 This was my most feared match-up going into the night. Fortunately, i was able to get devotion and not miss a land drop. Attacked with both gods before he was able to burn me to death. GAME2 same thing as game 1. built an army that was faster than Chandra's Phoenix and face melting.

ROUND #5: Budget Mono Red Aggro "Draft Common's" is what he called it. 1 - 2

GAME1 he was on the play. i lost before i could take my 4th turn. Akroan Crusader + Madcap Skills with Firedrinker Satyr and company. this was a 16 land deck with all 1 & 2 CMC cards. Lightning Strike and Titan's Strength etc. no one was expecting it. not even me.

GAME2 managed to stave off the aggro rush with a pair of Precinct Captain's long enough to get devotion online and attack for the win.

GAME3 he was on the play again and I lost before taking my 4th turn again. gg. i will be builing this deck since it is crazy fast and super cheap to build.

CHANGES:

Taking out the 1x Brave the Elements because i didn't use it a single time tonight, and adding a 3rd Far / Away since it's so versatile and effective before side-boarding.

I highly encourage and welcome you comments, critiques, and suggestions. thank you!

Awesome Update

Frayace, 11 years ago

I learned of Nantuko Shade's existence recently, and immediately got a playset of him to replace my Looming Shades, which is awesome.
I also got a playset of Lashwrithe now.
I may replace all my Liliana's Shades with Korlash, Heir to Blackblade once I get a playset of him.
I'm also going to replace Tendrils of Corruption (even though I love it) with a cheaper removal spell, since my deck's mana costs have been going up.
I need a way for my creatures to get through blockers, any suggestions there would be nice.
Thank you everyone, and I hope you continue to help me improve this deck :D

Friday Night Magic

fullmetalmexican, 11 years ago

Tonight, I tested out my latest creation & I can see that my deck is very weak to Burn & aggro. Although I did not face any control decks, I do have somethings in my sideboard for it.

Round 1, my opponent ramped up into many things. He piloted R/G Monsters with the usual suspects. As I was unable to draw any removal spells, the end results was a 0-2 on my record.

Round 2 was very annoying to say the least. My opponent must of learned pyromancy from Chandra Nalaar because he casted a Young Pyromancer , a Guttersnipe , a Chandra's Phoenix & a pesky firesatyr Dancer on all three games. Luckily, my lifegain, courtesy of Whip of Erebos & my barrages of creatures helped me immensely. 2-1

Round 3, U/W Heroics was a nice break :-)

Word of advice: Do not let any heroics get fat! Fortunately for me, my newly aquired Vraska the Unseen planeswalker, helped me destroy that 6/6 double striking Fabled Hero before I died.

The end result was a quick 2-0 for me :-)

Putrefy is a good removal spell but when your being Overrun by a horde of aggressive creatures, im not sure if keeping them in my deck will be the answer.

I will change things up here & possibly cut something here.

5-0-1

(1st Place) FNM Report 4/4/14

mrbloo1848, 11 years ago

Hello!

The Mosh Pit had yet another successful gig tonight at a local FNM. There were 6 rounds and I went 5-0-1 to finish in 1st place in top 8. I have made some minor changes in the main- and sideboard and so far it's worked wonderfully.

R1: White Weenie (W 2-0)

An interesting white weenie brew that revolves around the heroic mechanic. Got game 1 thanks to Obzedat, Ghost Council and Lifebane Zombie getting in there. Won game 2 thanks to Whip of Erebos and tons of lifelink.

R2: White Weenie (W 2-1)

White devotion aggro deck that runs some interesting fun cards. Won game 1 with Lifebane Zombie rambo'ing solo and outracing his team thanks to my removals. Lost game 2 to a slow hand and him getting huge too quickly thanks to Eidolon of Countless Battles and Heliod, God of the Sun. Won game 3 thanks to Stormbreath Dragon and Blood Baron of Vizkopa, our resident pro-white duo.

R3: Rakdos Aggro (W 2-1)

I really like this deck. It's fast and simple and has more oomph than its monored counterpart. However, it does have its share of inconsistency due to its being two color. Lifebane Zombie got in there once again in game 1. Lost game 2 to a super fast start and me making a misplay and that costed me a turn's worth of damage, which is huge. We both got to topdeck mode in game 3 and me being midrange of course came out on top. Slammed two Blood Baron of Vizkopa down and it was game over.

R4: Red Deck Wins (W 2-1)

Monored aggro! Lost game 1 to a predictably explosive start. Won game 2 with Obzedat, Ghost Council and he conceded after not hitting anything in the next 2 turns. Got game 3 with Sin Collector-Desecration Demon wombo after he started sacrificing mountains to Hammer of Purphoros but only connected just once before I leave mana open for kill spells.

R5: Esper Control (W 2-1)

I usually would have drawn into top 8 by now, but I was paired down so I had to play. Guy mulliganned to 5 in game 1 and I thought I had the game in the bag and then he resolved Sphinx's Revelation for a total of 4 cards over 2 casts and that got him right back into it. I eventually stopped drawing threats and was just staring down an AEtherling that I had no answer for so he eventually raced me out. Game 2 started with 2 Sin Collectors back to back, stripping him of everything he could use to deal with them while leaving him with a lone Sphinx's Revelation (the reason why I didn't grab it because of the next play). I then casted Slaughter Games naming Sphinx's Revelation and he didn't even have enough mana open to cast it for 0 so that pretty much meant he was holding nothing but lands. He was taking 4 every turn from the two 2/1s and I eventually just sealed the game out with Rakdos's Return before combat. Game 3 started with some Lifebane Zombie to test out the waters and his ability revealed a decent mix of spells but no counter in sight, which was very good for me. He resolved Jace, Architect of Thought 3 times but only got to use the -2 ability once each thanks to my Lifebane Zombie and from all three flips, he didn't get much at all, at least not enough to turn the tables. I eventually resolved Obzedat, Ghost Council with a Whip of Erebos back-up in my hand and a second Obzedat, Ghost Council as well. I didn't cast the whip because I knew he had a Revoke Existence in his hand and so I didn't feel like giving him a target for it. The two dudes eventually got him low enough for the eventual Stormbreath Dragon drop.

R6: ??? (Draw 1-1-1)

Intentional Draw. We are both at 15 points and are lock in the top 2 spot.

After Swiss rounds, I finished 1st in the top 8 and we split the prizes.

Anyway, onto the changes I made and their justification:

Main:

-1 Mizzium Mortars - Moved to sideboard. The card is narrower than ever right now. Might as well throw 'em in the side and pull 'em out when I need to.

+1 Dreadbore - Moved from sideboard. The card is not nearly as narrow compared to Mizzium Mortars. Worked way better.

Side:

-2 Drown in Sorrow - I am starting to see a decline in white weenie thanks to recent rise of Esper Control and black devotion. Thus, I no longer have a dire need for this card.

+1 Bile Blight - This replaces the Drown in Sorrow but I don't need more than 1 copy.

+1 Pithing Needle - This card is still so damn versatile. Insta-in for me. I needed another card against control anyway.

3/1 fnm

Felixlives, 11 years ago

Game 1 lost bad to sliver aggro due to bad draws i was trying to dig out the whip game 1 and communed 3 abrupt decays to my gy fml. Game 2 had 3 sylvan caryatids but after overloaded mizzium mortars was left with no black mana and never dug up any big threats or the whip. (The kid got lucky aggro is my second favorite opponent next to burn) 0:2 Game 2 won against rakdos black devotion Sin collector made a huge effect on game 2-3 getting rid of pesky thoughtseize and rakdos returns. 2:1 Game 3 won against rakdos burn minataurs. Never sided in sin collectors against his mad amounts of burn spells because lifegain and fat creatures quickly put me out of his range 2:0 Game 4 won against junk deck similar that played more kill spells and thoughtseize but not as many monsters. Sided putrefy over abrupt decay as most his stuff was 4+ mana. 2:0 6:3 Bad draws against game one but other than that the deck played as i expected.

Total deck revamp

Loyalty, 11 years ago

After a seemingly perennial duration of neglecting this deck I have finally concluded to remove all of the modern cards occupying the space of many newer (arguably better) standard cards. This is almost a total change and the dilapidated deck that I was once proud of has been revolutionized. All of the comments have been cleared and this deck takes it's steps towards a new life which I hope many fellow Tappedout users will assist in shaping.

1st FNM

Epicchicken, 11 years ago

I went to my first FNM and I went 2-1! (Out of three rounds). I am happy with my performance! Thanks everyone for advice I really appericate it!

Phil, 11 years ago

Took out 2 Render Silent and put in 2 Supreme Verdict. Have enough counterspells, but not enough creature control. Seems to help. I guess I'll have to put in 4 eventually. Too good a card not to put in.

Cost me about 9 USD so far. Performs quite well.

1st place FNM

Dozing, 11 years ago

FNM 4-4-14 I went 8-0 1st place. Top 8 first match - grixis control. I took it 2-1. I lost to an ashiok that went unchecked. Ouch. but I came back in game 3 it was a fun match. second match - R/W/B midrange. I took it 2-0, my deck was just too fast for his 5 drops and elspeth. Skullcrack did work against his lifegain. Top 2 - Esper control. This was a tough match, he's a really good player, but after sideboard I took it 2-1. Erebos and rakdos's return are gamebreakers in this match.

Euroclydon, 11 years ago

Went 2-1-1. Drew with one of our regular winners' GWB control, went 2-0 vs Orzhov Control and a Boros/Heroic/Aura thing. Lost to weenie white =(. That convinced me to add in Drown in Sorrow for next week.
