We have the number 4 spot. Let's continue and shoot for the top spot, gentlemen! We can do this; soon the very highest honour will be ours.

FNM

Prehstun, 11 years ago

Well, took her to another FNM and was most definitely not disappointed. Played 5 rounds and ended the tourney with an absolutely perfect record finishing in 1st place with 5 wins, & 5 sweeps.

  • Match ups

Round 1: Mono R Aggro. Mulled to 3 but somehow still managed to win, the hand has Forest, Mystic, Domri which lead to greater things, game 2 was an insane hand and a relatively easy win with my overrunning of satyrs and hastey breath dragons. .

Round 2: B/U Midrange/Mill. This deck was freaking weird ,-, my friend and usual G/R player decided to change things up a bit. The deck was cool but G/R was easily his worst matchup.

Round 3: MBD: He mulled to 5 game one and ended up devoting to Pack Rat, I overloaded a Mortars while he was tapped out and they were 4/4's thank god and game 2 to he just exhausted his removal and I came out on top with Stormbreath Dragon.

Round 4: MUD: Mistcutter Hydra That is all.

Ruond 5: MBD: A more difficult version of round 3, he almost stole a game from me with Gary for 6, but I happened to have Unravel the Aether and Plummet I had been sandbagging on for a while to hit his U-Connections and Nightveil Specter making it only a 4 point life drain, drawing Mortars off the top, hitting his gary, and killing him on the backswing.

Streamlining

cai_storm, 11 years ago

So after play testing, this deck gets flooded super easily. Drawing lands is dead, because it really only needs one land plus fixers. Additionally, the infinite mana combos can be clunky, so by minimizing combo pieces and maximizing ramp and cantrips, the deck performs better.

Updates: -2 Forest -3 Island -2 Early Harvest -2 Mirror Sheen -2 Freed from the Real -1 Bloom Tender -1 Conjurer's Bauble

+2 Remand +4 Manamorphose +4 Sol Ring +1 Birds of Paradise +2 Lotus Cobra

For those of you playing at home, that brings cantrips up to 16, and ramp up to 17 (counting Early Harvest. Oddly enough, 15 mana isn't too little, as a 1 mana hand is usually more than adequate! Additionally, Remand serves as both a cantrip and a precaution against counters.

Some Thoughts

Ender666666, 11 years ago

So after playing this deck against a bunch of different things, I can comfortably say that it is a real beast and damned near unstoppable in most situations. I am happy with the mana base and over all ramp of the deck as a two-colour U/W deck..

It has been suggested that Favorable Winds would fit nicely and I do agree, but I am not sure if it's worth cutting something for it. I am adding 2x Derevi, Empyrial Tactician. Although I am not sure if just the 4x Cavern of Souls are sufficient to reliably cast her, I will playtest to find out.

As always, thoughts, suggestions and compliments are appreciated.

Gonna be honest, didn't like the feel to Sphinx's Revelation. against aggro, it just kept coming out too late. by the time it was at my 5th turn, down to 4 health, being able to gain two cards + two life just didn't help much. against control, if perchance they have a Notion Thief and i end up casting Sphinx's Revelation, well i'm screwed. multiple times against control i would save enough mana for a counter after already dumping a ton into Sphinx's Revelation, only for the counter to be countered by a cheap counter spell. i'm side boarding it for now, maybe I'm just playing it wrong, but the reason i don't like it is because it seems as though there are a ton of answers for it which include.

Sire Of Insanity

Notion Thief

Slaughter Games

Rakdos's Return

any cheap counter spells that will most likely lead you to losing the counter spell battle.

thank you DaBigNig for pointing out a lack of Sphinx's Revelation

So had my first FMN running this match up. Overall not a bad night went 3-2.

First game i lost to was Esper Control - 0-2, game one straight to him, game two was able to active a Assemble the Legion after drawing him to use his Detention Sphere. Got to 17 Tokens however with a two Jace's in his hand there was little i could do (killed on using all my burn, second just came out, had no answer).

Game two i won against a boros weenie deck - 2 - 1 lost the first round, however some may say i overextended leveling only one creature to block, he used a madcaps skills and swung in for lethal. I did however mange to take to next two rounds very easily.

Game three - went up against an okay simic deck, was a slow game because of Kiora, the Crashing Wavefoil but won quite comfortably.

Game four - went up against a heroic deck. lost 1-2 last round had a great hand, he however on turn two was able to play 2 Hidden Strings and an Aqueous Form did not have the burn power to kill it, and was not able to find a changed to the rocks.

games five - i won 2-0 cant remember what it was i played though......opps i do remember how i killed him though, Chandra's Phoenix for two, Boros Charmfoil for four and Lightning Strike for three for lethal was very satisfying.

Overall i was an good night, i made some mistakes especially in regarding to responding to certain events, but that is about learning the deck.

looking forward to playing at next weeks FNM.

I feel like this deck has potential, it just seems to be missing something, maybe Journey into Nyx will give this deck the missing piece of the puzzle

I wasn't dissapointed with this deck! Really fun to play! Game 1: I lost against a Mono-Black Devotion deck, I didn't manage to hit them hard enough with the Rakdos' Return which let me down a bit. My draws, despite subbing in ALL my removal, did not have any removal spells so I feel I was let down with my draw a bit in this game. Game 2: I beat a Simic "Unexpected Results" deck, my deck was WAY to quick for this and won easily. Game 3: I beat a Black-White Midrange(?). First round I lost to a board which got out of hand with both Obzedat AND Blood-Baron while I got poor land draws. Second round I won convincingly with a heavy board and a mana-starved opponent (turn 2 with 2 burning trees and a turn 3 stormbreath... brutal). Round 3 was more evenly matched, but my monster's dominated the field once again to become hard to deal with. Game 4: MONO-RED!? Serious? Well... I was slightly behind my older brother, mono-red, but I ended up pulling my Stormbreath, thinking I had the win, which then resulted in him using Fanatic of Mogis for 8 and winning perfectly. I just needed the one more turn. Second game I tryed to be even faster, but my draws prooved unlikely to help and drawing into 3 of my nykthos lost me the game. I was quite dissapointed in this game. Well... upside playing with red decks is you have plenty of time to discuss Magic with the 30 minutes left on the timer! Looking to remove a Nykthos and maybe switched out my Mogis' for Purphoros. I'll update the decklist soon.

My deck has come to a sort of standstill. It no longer functions as a Token/Populate deck anymore. It's more of an Angel Beat Face deck that has token generation in it that also doubles as a life gain deck.

Star City IQ- top 4!!!

TheGamer, 11 years ago

You may have seen the forum Star City Open coming to town! and I know veryone said "play The RUG of a Beastmaster" and I was like "hmm". But I ended up using this. Why? It does good early, mid, and late game. While RUG Monsters is top decking late game if they haven't won yet. Anyway, here is the day, match by match.

Round 1- MBD splashing red, 1-1-1. This was a crazy match. Game 1 I was mana screwed on blue (5 W/B Sources, 1 W/U sources) and finally layed down a Jace, Architect of Thought. Before playing that, I had at least 4 kill spells in my graveyard. Eventully Blood Baron of Vizkopa and his pet Mutavalut ended the game. Game 2, after sideboarding he played 3 Thoughtseize like effects and then Rakdos's Returned away the rest. I scooped. Game 3 I had too much removal for him to deal with and we drew.

Round 2- Dimir Tempo, 2-0. This was weird seeing because I didn't expect to see a deck this casual at an IQ. Game 1 he used Artisan of Forms to copy my Blood Baron of Vizkopa. Then you know how that went. Eventully I played Blood Baron of Vizkopa #2 and out raced him. Game 2 was crazy. I cast Bile Blight at the end of his turn on his 3 Xathrid Gorgons and he had 9 zombie tokens. I had no chance of winning but then I drew for turn... Detention Sphere. I then killed him with Mutavault.

Round 3- Esper Mirror, 2-1. Game 1 was the normal esper mirror game, "Counter your counter", "Sphinx for 11", and things like that. My Blood Baron of Vizkopa got there in the end. game 2 he resolved an Elspeth, Sun's Champion and I never drew removal for it! Too amny tokens led to a game loss. Game 3 was fight of the Sphinx's Revelations. I won the fight, resolved a sphinx for 6, and countered his sphinx for 4. AEtherling form the side won.

Round 4- Esper Mirror, 2-0. This version was more like Azorius Control splashing black to have removal. game 1 multiple Blood Baron of Vizopa won me the game. Game 2 2 Mutavault, 1 Blood Baron of Vizkopa, and 1 AEtherling was too much so he scooped.

Round 5- Split

~~~Top 8~~~
Round 1 was the same person in round 3, and I won 2-1. The games were identical too. Countermagic was the key in all the games, and I had more of it.
In the end, we split. I got $62.50 in cash and 12 packs from the split. I got literally nothing in the packs except a Temple of Plenty.
Please keep viewing the deck and +1'ing it! Thanks guys and happy deckbuilding!
