EDH League

Beeñ playing this deck at my LGS weekly commander league. I am going to start keeping track of my win/loss record, with the ultimate goal of making the deck more tuned and consistent. I will be starting this next week.

The remake

Mozmi, 7 years ago

This used to be a burn deck where I would stack damage wide around the table to gain mana and burn people with big X spells. Then I realized creatures are super cool, especially big bad boys like eldrazi. So now it has many less X spells and many more creatures

Updates

zamiero, 7 years ago

12/03/2017 - I've played the deck with zero removal and it functions well, plus forces me to communicate with the group and play more politically. This deck is still a good training or perspective change, as I must interact with the politics of the table. I think it's safe for me to add a small amount of removal that only works when I'm attacked...

OUT: Shapers' Sanctuary, Portal Mage, Illusionist's Gambit, Dictate of Karametra.

IN: Comeuppance, Selfless Squire, Settle the Wreckage, Angel of the Dire Hour. Maybe Entrapment Maneuver?

===============

03/03/2018 - I cannot resist copying Zhur-Taa Ancient with something like Rite of Replication, despite it causing my elimination a few times. Same liability with Mana Flare, although the enchantment's lower cost makes it easier to use it to accelerate my own mana.

OUT: Zhur-Taa Ancient, Mana Flare, Righteous Cause

IN: Selvala, Explorer Returned, Mirrorweave, Wing Shards

Draw Power

Pedrodamus, 7 years ago

Added some cards to win via draw - Laboratory Maniac and Psychosis Crawler. If you can get Brago to go infinite with Top out, you can draw your deck. I also Added Sphinx's Revelation and Blue Sun's Zenith, which again, can win you the game if you go infinite and deck someone. I also felt I needed more draw power to being with, so those are two good additions in regards to that as well.

Orzhov to Abzan

Added

  1. 2 Forest / 4 Grove of the Burnwillows: Adds mana for me and Spark Jolts my enemy for free and with its latest reprint dropping its price to a 1/4 of what it was, too good to not get.
  2. 4 Heroes' Reunion: Another 2 drop spell that deals 7 damage to my opponent? Yes please.
  3. 2 Birds of Paradise: Helps with color correction, chump blocking when absolutely needed and if targeted by Path of Exile turn 1 I get free ramp

Removed

  1. 2 Diabolic Tutor: While it can necessarily grab a card that can help me finish the game faster, with 4 mana there are more lower drop spells I would prefer the cast.
  2. 4 Scoured Barrens; 1 Plains/Swamp

Sideboarded (Will not that I have not made a finalized sideboard so it has been under continuous change)

  1. 2 Oust: Removed due to the large quantity of single target removal already available to me, may place some in the sideboard for future purposes.
  2. 2 Inquisition of Kozilek: May be a bad idea to remove them from the main deck, but this is still in its new testing phase.

Decklist Update: New cards!

Araganor, 7 years ago

Haven't been happy with the consistency (had to mull to 4 cards last night, feels bad) so I am lowering the curve a bit. Also, I got some cool new cards I want to try out.

Out:

In:

  • Thawing Glaciers: It's an etb-tapped land, but I think the reliable land source may prove to be worth it in the long run. It's also ramp if I have rings out, if that ever ends up mattering.

  • Commune with Lava: This card seems sweet. I can play it for x=2-4 on my mainphase to help hit my next 2 land drops while developing (lasts until the end of my NEXT turn), or I can pour a bajillion mana into it late game and go off.

  • Everflowing Chalice: Better than Fire Diamond here, scales well into the late game

  • Unstable Obelisk: Trying this out in place of Spine of Ish Sah. It's less mana efficient for blowing something up granted, but in exchange it's not a completely dead draw early on. I think that's a worthy trade-off. It might even draw removal away from my more important artifacts. Also, the ability can be copied with Rings which is an added bonus.

  • Voltaic Key: I don't why I didn't put this into the deck a long time ago. Good with any mana rock that taps for more than 1 mana, and absolutely insane with Doubling Cube, Rings of Brighthearth, or Tower of Fortunes

  • Mana Geyser: Yes, it's card disadvantage. But, it can give me a way to recover late game if a bunch of my stuff gets blown up, and it can go infinite with Reiterate. I want to try it at the very least.

  • Charmbreaker Devils: Since I am adding more instants/sorceries, I figured it would be a good time to test him. I figure if he lets me reuse Gamble or Reforge the Soul, he is pulling his weight.

  • Mirage Mirror: I love how flexible this is. I can use it to play defense, copy somone's Rhystic Study, and other shenanigans on an opponent's turn. On my turn, it will happily become a copy of Thran Dynamo, Doubling Cube, Sunbird's Invocation, and more. Sadly, I don't think copying my Caged Sun or Gauntlet of Power works though.

  • Sunbird's Invocation: I am excited to try this out. It doesn't give me cards in hand, but very powerful card advantage nonetheless. Blasphemous Act into Ugin, the Spirit Dragon will be magic Christmas land. Unfortunately, it does get hit by All is Dust and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.

  • Sword of Kaldra: I used to run this, and I am putting it back in over Batterskull. I like Batterskull, but the mana to play it and equip it was pretty cost-prohibitive even in a deck like this. Meanwhile, SoK turns Jaya into a tactical nuke that gives the middle finger to graveyard decks, and makes even a lowly goat or kobold token into a significant source of damage.

  • Solemn Simulacrum: I initially dismissed him as not being relevant to our gameplan, but I think getting the basic into play is valuable enough to warrant his inclusion

  • Scrap Mastery: Kind of a weird card, but it could prove useful in recovering from Austere Command late-game, or something similar. I may need more good sac-outlets before this becomes useful though.

  • Thaumatic Compass  Flip: I used to run Journeyer's Kite, but wasn't happy with how bad of a draw it was late game. This is sooo much better, and I am more than happy to include this.

Possible changes

apamango, 7 years ago

Trying to make something a bit different I have mono red / black decks i play so have a few white cards spare I was thinking of removing the monuments, adding a 4th sunmare then it leaves me with 3 slots to play with Perhaps some more removal, or 2 gideons... not really sure

Bit of this, bit of that.

Bluefire016, 7 years ago

I've updated the list to match the current list I run in the paper world, the most recent addition that I enjoy is the two copies of Seismic Assault. I enjoyed how it worked out for me in my playtesting so I decided to add them to my list.

I've also archived the comment section, speaking of which. As usual, comments and input are always welcome.

Let me think...

valoopy, 7 years ago

-Fractured Identity, +Brainstorm

-Pull from Tomorrow, +Ponder

-Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, +Preordain

Just trimming some fat, putting in good cards. It's actually legitimately surprising I've made it this long WITHOUT these three cards. I used to run them, took them out when I noticed I was just getting Brainstorm locked, then realized the other day I have a lot of tutors and fetchlands. Plus they just make my deck more consistent. Maybe Treasure Cruise comes next, but I just don't fill my yard fast enough to support two delve spells, and my deck's playstyle wants Dig Through Time more.

Update (trying a bit different approach)

SlavicGhaespar, 7 years ago

Removed few creatures and added Possibility Storm and high cost eldrazi to try and cheat them in.

@qfwfq, 7 years ago

Added Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Boros Reckoner and Aurelia, the Warleader for more damage redirection.

First update! No finish date yet.

KevinWasHere, 7 years ago

Added Gideon and Jace to the roster. Other members of the Gatewatch are on the way! I need help in making the other Planewalkers though.

kaanfighting, 7 years ago

Took out Emrakul and Narset in favor of 2 Gideons. The gideons should end the game faster than Emrakul and Narset.
