Ramp
Reduced the cost of Ramp in the deck and added some more mana doublers.
OUT: Trove of Temptation - The idea behind this was it would slowly ramp and late game it would force my opponents to attack into my big creatures. Coming down turn 4 and producing 1 mana per turn at end step was too slow.
IN: Trace of Abundance - After realizing I had little to do turns 1 and 2, I put in some cards to fix that. This is one of those cards. Wanted to keep the amount of ramp the same.
OUT: Gift of the Gargantuan - A placeholder for Cultivate
OUT: Recross the Paths - Was better with higher CMC overall. Now the CMC is lower and it rarely goes back to my hand.
IN: Cultivate
IN: Nissa's Pilgrimage - For the same price, always gets me more lands (although forests, the deck is mostly green). I wouldn't mind finding a replacement for this.
OUT: Artisan of Kozilek, Desolation Twin, Pathrazer of Ulamog - For 9+ mana, didn't have a huge impact and often sat in my hand.
IN: Sol Ring - I only own 4, but I found a deck that didn't need it as much.
IN: Boros Signet, Gruul Signet - Something to do turn 2. Sol Ring took the place of Selesnya Signet.
OUT: Sacellum Godspeaker - With fewer 5+ power creatures, it lost some power.
IN: Bloom Tender - Going to try this out. Can produce up to 5 mana with Samut out.
OUT: Frontier Siege - Although it produced 4 extra mana each turn, it was a bit too slow at 4 mana with few ways to ramp before then.
IN: Keeper of Progenitus - Comes out the same turn and helps others, but it doubles my mana and my opponents don't always have the same benefit.
OUT: Explosive Vegetation - Too often I kept a hand with 3 lands and this, expecting it get me to 6 mana, but didn't draw another land for some time.
IN: Mirari's Wake - Although it comes out a turn later, its effect is much more powerful.
Card Draw
OUT: Drumhunter - Fewer 5+ power creatures, draws card at EOT.
IN: Lifecrafter's Bestiary - The scry can be helpful, and with more ramp and cheaper creatures, I can draw more cards.
OUT: Ulvenwald Observer - Waiting for creatures to die to draw was too slow.
IN: Shamanic Revelation - More ways to produce tokens and not having to wait for a creature to die.
Misc.
OUT: Spellbreaker Behemoth - Fewer 5+ power creatures.
IN: Vexing Shusher - Can protect any spell of mine (or an opponent) for 1 mana.
OUT
Paleoloth, Vagrant Plowbeasts, Where Ancients Tread - Fewer 5+ power creatures.
Wild Pair - Not a big fan of nonland tutors.
Cream of the Crop - Wanted more actual card draw.
Flameblast Dragon, Gruul Ragebeast, Wolf of Devil's Breach, Stalking Vengeance, Forsake the Worldly
IN
White Sun's Zenith - More ramp equals bigger X, instant speed, and shuffles.
Command Tower - Up to 38 lands and found a 2 color deck that didn't need it.
Novablast Wurm - With Samut, a hasty way to wipe the board that can be used multiple times.
Mother of Runes - Powerful and works well with Samut's untap ability.
Ant Queen - Cheap mana dump, chump blockers.
Sandwurm Convergence - Protects me in the air and get a free 5/5 each turn.
Heliod, God of the Sun - Vigilance to my creatures and another (more expensive) mana dump.
Pride Sovereign - With Samut's untap ability, makes itself stronger and provides chump blockers if needed.
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, Dragonmaster Outcast.
Lands
OUT: Tranquil Thicket, Mosswort Bridge, Rugged Highlands, Windbrisk Heights, Spinerock Knoll - Swapped out for basics that came into play untapped.
OUT: Contested Cliffs - Not enough beasts in the deck.
IN: 2 Mountains, 2 Plains, 2 Forests

Completely chamged the direction i was taking the deck. At first i was doing tokens and persist creatures into Craterhoof but now i just want fast damage. Took out the tokens and added a lot of ramp including creatures i can exile for mana. Added a new theme of infect for fast kills. Also added storm cards to combo woth Prossh & Food Chain. Competed in multiple tournaments. Barely went past turn 4. Mind you, my meta is super janky and filled with combo players.
Ixalan update
cak01vej, 7 years ago
With the introduction of Dinosaurs Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan have given us some huge and powerful cards. So this is my attempt at including the best of these:
- 3x Terra Stomper -> 3x Carnage Tyrant
- 4x Market Festival -> 4x New Horizons
I would also like to put Ghalta, Primal Hunger and Growing Rites of Itlimoc Flip in the deck, but I have not figured out what to remove yet.
While the Tyrant is a lot weaker than Terra Stomper it has better protection and can, in a lot of cases, win the game by itself. and that might be worth the -1/-2.
When I was looking back on my use of Market Festival, I only ever use one color. either it's , or , never both. This makes New Horizons a strictly better option, as it is both cheaper and it boosts my creatures when it is cast, either protecting my mana creatures, or adding an extra notch to my already powerful creatures.
It will require some testing, but I might change Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun Flip

Bant Embalm/eternalize aggro
aidanorr93, 7 years ago
Aggressive early with a solid land base to ramp into higher eternalize costs.
Found
Papdaddy_44, 7 years ago
I recently added a few pieces to the deck that i finally found. Hellkite Tyrant, Urza's Incubator, and keiga,the tide star to the deck. I have about 1 more revision left maybe 2... Should I added Asceticism?
Optimizing the landbase and retweaking the deck
cak01vej, 7 years ago
So, updated the landbase to (hopefully) minimize the number of times I find myself not having the right colors of mana. Furthermore I have changed some of the creatures to accomondate a dislike for Emrakul in my local playgroup. First, the changes:
- Island -> Breeding Pool
- Mountain -> Stomping Ground
- 2x Evolving Wilds -> 2x Windswept Heath
- Emrakul, the Aeons Torn -> Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger
The reason for the removal of the basic Island and Mountain should be obvious: Breeding Pool and Stomping Grounds are both Forests, which allows Arbor Elf to untap blue and red mana respectively.
However, this forces me to also remove the Evolving Wilds, Since I have no use for searching for Forests, when every land in the deck can tap for . To replace the now-gone Wilds, is now Windswept Heath since I only need the ability to fetch Forests and Heath is the cheapest solution.
Now for the new creature, since my local playgroup doesn't want to play when I am able to hard cast Emrakul on turn 4-5 I have decided to remove it from the decklist. Instead I have decided to playtest with the green Praetor of New Phyrexia, Vorinclex. Now, I'll just have to see how they like not having mana, while I double mine.

Did I just buy a fake card from ebay? pt. 2
Mortlocke, 7 years ago
So, for those of you who were keeping tabs on updates from this story I'm sorry for being so lazy about sending what happened next. So, onward with our story. So when I purchased the card I was roughly 70% sure the card was legit, but naturally I contacted the seller and requested additional images before it was sent out. Here's the back of the card and a better image of the bottom (focusing on the anti-counterfeiting holofoil stamp) half of the card. After that, I can honestly say that I was 95% convinced this card was the real deal. Once I received it I performed the light test. I could try and take pictures, but i'm kinda lazy about it. BUT, if someone actually requests it i'll do it in another update. So this is it. I'm up to the final boss for pimping out my prized EDH deck, the one and only Masterpiece Sol Ring

Modern tournament
Metaldad, 7 years ago
Took 3rd overall, out of 3 matches I won 2 of them 2-1 and lost big against eldrazi tron (more specifically, chalice set to 1). Made a bad play during the first match that costed me a 2-0 victory. Played U/G infect first and found that I could easily outpace it. 2nd match I lost 0-2 because I had no answers for eldrazi tron, looking at adding 2x blood moon to the sideboard. Match 3 was esper token generation, lost round one and boarded in rakdos charm. It ended up being the difference maker as I was able to have each creature deal one damage to its controller with 7 creatures on his board and reverberated for the win, 3rd game I just outpaced him from the beginning. Needs some work, but I'm incredibly happy with how it turned out. The winner of the tournament was playing affinity and I am pretty confident if I had matched with him instead of tron, I'd have won outright.
Another quick switch
MrSilk, 7 years ago
Switching out 1x Azorius First-Wing and adding in 1x Heroic Intervention to complete the playset. I decided that First-Wing isn't as important to my wincon as Heroic Intervention and that it's more of a chump blocker. They're the same mana cost and Heroic IMO has more potential for self protection against enemy board wipes and my own board wipes that go towards my wincon of "wipe enemy permanents + swing with boosted creatures."
I have also switched out 2x Echoing Calm for 2x Leave No Trace. I feel the wipe could possibly be more disruptive as I find my enemies often not playing too many "same name land cards" that I can wipe with Echoing Calm.. But with Leave No Trace, I can just pick a color and all of that color will be destroyed. I can also protect myself with a Heroic Intervention if I need to destroy a Bant color.
This is just a test.. I may revert. If I do, I'll make another update.

I need some help. I do not have the funds at the moment to update it too much. But if anyone has any suggestions please post a comment!

I have ordered the requisite cards and, once they arrive, will proceed with extremely slow actual playtesting against my friends and maybe an FNM or two if I feel like getting my ass beat by strangers instead. Please stay tuned for additional updates. I am determined to make this an almost-competitive (although it's already 100% competitive per algorithm as of now and forever, amen) casual deck.

Card Change

Swapped out Feast on the Fallen for Archetype of Aggression.
Initial Playtesting
MegaMatt13, 7 years ago
The deck is playing very well, especially for a newly built deck. Normally it takes a while of fine tuning to get my decks there, but this attrition-style build performed well out of the gate. The few changes I've made have largely been about reducing mana curve. I typically cut back on 5+ CMC cards as I test them out. For example, I recently swapped out Ob Nixilis, Unshackled and Harvester of Souls for Falkenrath Noble and Grim Haruspex as the former two cards didn't do enough for me for 6 CMC.
If you're playing the deck, I definitely suggest holding back a bit in the early game. Yahenni can get scary big very quickly. I learned the hard way that the table will quickly unite against you with a big early game Yahenni. I have found it best to play the game as more of an attrition control game early on and then finishing off opponents with Yahenni in the late game.

Creature replacement

Replaced Tormented Soul with Slither Blade due to its ability to block and increased toughness.
Temur Battle Rage for Fists of Ironwood
HashMasta, 7 years ago
Temur Battle Rage After deciding on it, I put in Temur Battle Rage. Giving double strike and trample was a lot better then having 1/1 blockers. helps keep the pace of this deck a little fast.

Out - Sea Scryer
In - Explore
While sea scryer is a merfolk and a wizard, he's just a bad card. unhasty colorless mana for 2 mana is just bad. Explore does 2 things for us. It give's us hasty mana in form of an extra land and it draws a card for kydele. Great!
