Riku of two Reflections

Commander / EDH RUG (Temur)

kraizor

May I introduce:

RIKU OF TWO REFLECTIONS!!!

Riku is(are) my man(men) since the end of 2016 while I was trying to get a valid creature based Saskia the Unyielding deck onto the table, though eventually dropping her to Focus on Riku of Two Reflections.

COMBO

This commander is creature based, though I am still running some of the best cards in the noncreature slots to have possible answers on an enemy threat and to round the deck.

I am running different kinds of combos in this deck, though have three main ways to end the game with a combo which are the following.

The first one is: Zealous Conscripts + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. Create infinite 3/3 haste creatures and nuke them for thousands of damage.

An easy way to get both out is Glen Elendra Archmage into Birthing Pod to tutor for Zealous Conscripts, untapping Birthing Pod and sacrifice the persisted Glen Elendra Archmage into Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.

You can also use a 3 mana creature like Imperial Recruiter or Wood Elves to cast Eldritch Evolution and to copy it with Riku into Kiki-Conscripts, as you do not do not need to sacrifice a creature for the copied Eldritch Evolution.

The second one generates infinite mana and therefore also infinite bodies. As of now, I was always able to finish the game upon having infinite mana. The key to infinite mana lays in Palinchron. These are the possible combos:

Palinchron + Deadeye Navigator + 3 lands(Though, when you got these two, you probably got more than 3 lands.

Palinchron + Riku of Two Reflections. Keep in mind, that we can use 7 lands to play Palinchron and then stack the triggers to first untap our lands and then copy Palinchron.

Palinchron + Panharmonicon

Palinchron + Sneak Attack Infinite mana on instant speed and basically not counterable. Pretty neat.

Palinchron + Phantasmal Image

When having infinite mana, you usually want to atleast lockdown the enemy with cards like Venser, Shaper Savant to bounce everything they have on the board. Desolate Lighthouse is another card, that let us dig through our library, until we find something we can use. Kessig Wolf Run is another card I always want to get, though always forget to get. Helps you to finish one off by buffing a creature into oblivion to nuke someone.

The last Combo consists of good ol' Avenger of Zendikar with his friend Craterhoof Behemoth to swing for huge damage.

The easiest method to get to this overrun-esque state is, if you can Avenger of Zendikar into Birthing Pod to play Craterhoof Behemoth. Other ways are Green Sun's Zenith, Worldly Tutor, Survival of the Fittest or Chord of Calling.

Another sweet combo is to repeatedly cast Time Warp. Therefore you need Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Eternal Witness which is copied to get Time Warp back.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Eternal Witness + Time Warp

I also like to mention one of my favorite card combos Survival of the Fittest + Sneak Attack. Having a creature card in your hand can lead to a Craterhoof Behemoth at instant speed after blockers are declared without much of counterplay besides something like Stifle.

Oracle of Mul Daya + Sensei's Divining Top or Sylvan Library is an awesome value engine to help you be ahead of the curve and play up to two lands each turn. Possibly sacrificing a fetchland, if your top deck gets stale.

Tooth and Nail basically says: you win the game.

As is tradition, every guide or decktech from Riku tells you how Mana hungry this one is. Therefore my provisional comment: Riku is insanely mana intensive, following this we need lots of ramp.

In my current iteration I am running a total of 14 ramp cards. There is a possibility, that this amount is a little bit much and I think anything from 11-12 up works with a good landbase, though as of now I did not find myself flooded due to always being able to pump the mana into Riku or else.

I am not running many counterspells, as I cannot really copy them with Riku. They are only for countering combo pieces or absolute game changer. I got Glen Elendra Archmage, which can be copied to get an insane amount of pressure onto the enemies plus Venser, Shaper Savant, which is basically acting like a counterspell and can be bounced when copied to use it another time. Additionally, we are running a Vexing Shusher to protect us from counterspell heavy decks, when trying to combo.

Additional counterspells that we can definitely run in this deck: Mana Drain, Force of Will, Swan Song, Fierce Guardianship
