Maybeboard

Starting idea was to play madness cards. Since there's not a bunch of them, it becomes a cycling/self discard deck, with some reanimation and aristocrat.

Win con : Tidespout Tyrant, Pack Rat, Nezahal, Primal Tide, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Peregrine Drake and Deadeye Navigator, Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble

The rest of the deck is control-ish, ramping, filtering and having fun.. I mean, draw

Those are just very good cards in the deck that you might want to tutor (I didn't included the win cons, but they are other cards you want to tutor)

  • Cavern Harpy : It lets you play stuff with ETB or madness cost again and again (Ninja of the Deep Hours, Grave Scrabbler, Big Game Hunter, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, etc). It also synergizes perfectly with our commander, that will trigger every time a creature you control leave the battlefield. Finally, it protects itself by just getting it back in your hand for 1 life. There's multiple tutor to get this card specifically (Dimir Infiltrator, Disciple of Deceit, Muddle the Mixture, Mausoleum Secrets). Plus, there's just a lot of card draw/filtering in the deck, so you can find it quite fast when needed.

  • Tortured Existence : One of the best card of the deck. Let you discard creatures you want in the graveyard for recursion (or cast with madness trigger) while getting back a dead creature you had on the field. Basically, make your opponents need exile removal or graveyard hate for all your creatures (you can always activated before your graveyard gets exile, so you keep what you really want). Any creature in your hand can be a creature in your graveyard that cost more.

  • Champion of Wits : It does mostly what we want in this deck (AKA draw/discard). Since it's on a creature, you can repeat this effect multiple time in a game (using bounce or flicker). You can also use the Eternalize mechanic when the card is in the graveyard (and other recursion in the deck to play it again). It's not game breaking but the card is very solid and does what we need to.

Just a small list of the ramp cards

Both sorcery and Peregrine Drake are soft ramp, considering the inclusion of lands that tap for more than 1 mana (Coral Atoll, Dimir Aqueduct, Everglades(VIS), Temple of the False God). They don't help much, but the synergy that fits with the deck is enough. Also, Peregrine Drake can be repeated multiple times with any bounce or flicker effect.

I tried to add more creature based ramp, being able to use them later in the game for other purpose (discarding to a discard outlet that need a creature, leaving the battlefield to trigger the commander, use them to Wretched Gryff, etc)

So, as I like to include in my decks, there's sub optimal stuff I include to have fun and add some flavor.

  • Oath of Scholars is very particular, having a symmetrical effect for everyone. Cause you usually can discard your hand easily, you can always draw 4 cards at the start of your turn.

  • Circular Logic and Big Game Hunter are 2 madness cards that I wasn't aware of. They fit the discard synergy and the whole strategy the deck is oriented to. Another similar card is Forbid, that is just amazing here.

  • Stormscape Familiar and Nightscape Familiar are part of a cycle that I wasn't aware of and that in very interesting for brewing with, especially when you have a limited budget and in non-green colors. The fact that they can die is always a risk, but they can bring a lot to your play.

To conclude, this deck seems hard to pilot, making you take lots of decision (what to play, discard, to activate, etc), but it's also a very fun deck that will make you learn a lot. It's not a competitive one (not CEDH) and I'm sure that a bigger budget might help to the deck, but I think that the strategy is good at this level and doesn't need to be boost. The list is very customizable, there's some interresting choices in the maybeboard.
