"The sun was born within its coils, but it fled to the sky. The wurm hungers for its child, and the world will bear it's loss." - Screed of the Mul Daya

Mayael travels with her retinue as the Wurm wreaks havoc on the lands. She has assembled her advisors and they seek the one who can tame the Wurm...Mayael has called on the God of Revels and God of Victory, and with the aide of her ally Garruk Wildspeaker , she will prevail.

This is my Mayael the Anima toolbox deck. Its kind of aggro-y but it takes enough time to set up that it's kind of midrange-y too.

I like to put all my ducks in a row before I go on offense.

Academy Rector helps me find Mirari's Wake , Privileged Position or Wild Pair depending on what is appropriate. Enlightened Tutor does the same thing OR grabs me my Birthing Pod or mana rocks if/when I need them.

In the past, I've found it ridiculously hard to kill Academy Rector off...enter Birthing Pod ! I can find a useful but expendable five drop to pod away next turn, cough cough Karmic Guide cough cough Double Score! I like toolbox decks. Between Wild Pair and Pod, there are few creatures I don't have access to at a moments notice.

Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger is the mana doubler I've been looking for. (supplemented by Mirari's Wake ) I can now power out creatures AND my artifacts and enchantments. Too bad he's a Wild Pair loner. (again, unless Mirari's Wake is active)

Wild Pair is the main engine for the deck. I like to think it all works nicely in isolation, but with Wild Pair everything falls together. Answers and card advantage start falling out of my hand. Now that I have Vorinclex, I dont have to choose between Mayael activations and casting enchantments.

Regal Force and Knollspine Dragon provide one-shot draw power, so much of it at times that I've ended up adding Reliquary Tower . Those heavy one-timers are supplemented by Soul of the Harvest , Garruk, Primal Hunter and Drumhunter . These guys pull pretty decent grinder minutes too.

Warstorm Surge +Knollspine Dragon draws me a fresh hand. Both of these cards sat on the bench for awhile during testing, but they're both too useful to ignore. The more graveyard interaction I bring in the more useful Knollspine Dragon becomes.

Privileged Position , Lightning Greaves , Dauntless Escort and Avacyn, Angel of Hope provide some general protection.

Novablast Wurm and Balefire Dragon serve as convenient board wipers.

Warstorm Surge creates some EtB burn. Spot removal on demand...theoretically.

What does everyone think? It's reaching a happy point, and I find it very fun to play, but suggestions, +1's and conversation are always welcome. The game is always evolving.

I'm also considering changing this to a Gahiji, Honored One build to be a bit more political and a little less of a target...

To War! — May 16, 2014

I haven't been able to play this deck in it's most recent form lately, but it finally happened this week.

I had two games, which I learned a lot.

Game 1: Don't piss off the Scion of the Ur-Dragon player when you don't have flying defense ready...lost to Commander Damage...first one knocked out.

Game 2: The deck recovered from Wash Out naming green on turn 6, which bounced my Garruk Wildspeaker , beast token and Wild Pair back to my hand. The Kira, Great Glass-Spinner player ended up countering my Avacyn (which the Scion player ended up reanimating...) and Venser, Shaper Savant ing my Sigarda and I still won.

Controlling Gisela, Blade of Goldnight , Warstorm Surge , Wild Pair and Sword of Feast and Famine all at the same time is just too much pressure for people to handle...

Small tweaks — Jan. 5, 2014

Sylvan Tutor out Survival of the Fittest in. I'm playing around with more graveyard interactions and Survival makes me able to get the creature I want/need. Now.

Chromatic Lantern out, Ancient Tomb in: with this mana base the speed of the extra mana is more valuable than the color fixing.

Interactions. — Oct. 6, 2012

This deck has some very fun things going on in it now.

Sneak Attack +Survival of the Fittest : RG, Discard a fatty: Search your library for a creature card (Karmic Guide ?) and put it onto the battlefield, it gains haste. Sacrifice it at end of turn.

Sneak Attack +Twilight Shepherd = dump lots of creatures, get them all back...rinse and repeat.

Hardcast Craterhoof Behemoth + Wild Pair always equals Gisela, Blade of Goldnight and a ridiculous amount of doubled trampling damage.

Mayael the Anima +Seedborn Muse +3RGW= a fatty for each untap step

Godsire +Warstorm Surge =boom! You better have some hexproof, shroud or protection.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope +Privileged Position = I win? Pretty much until someone destroys my enchantment...or you know Wash Out or Cyclonic Rift ...that's why Iona, Shield of Emeria is important.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Dauntless Escort +Novablast Wurm =one sided board wipes are fun (less fun if somebody controls a Grave Pact though.)

Wild Pair +Warstorm Surge =blast away.

Wild Pair +Warstorm Surge +Gisela, Blade of Goldnight = Ouch.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight +Balefire Dragon = You better have removal, flying or reach, or not care about your creatures very much...

Add Aurelia, the Warleader to the above...that's not very nice...

Aurelia, the Warleader +Sun Titan +Fetchlands= Multiple attack phases means mega ramp mofoga...

Admonition Angel +Sun Titan +fetchlands= exile party

Knollspine Dragon +Warstorm Surge +Wild Pair =card draw!!

Sun Titan +Soul of the Harvest +Dauntless Escort = indestructible card drawing engine.

Wild Pair +Birthing Pod = tutor value!

Birthing Pod +Paleoloth +Assorted power 5 or greater creatures= recursion engine

Birthing Pod +Sun Titan +Eternal Witness = powerful recursion engine.

I wish Birthing Pod could be used at instant speed...

More to come. Let me know if there are any you see!

I quite enjoy this deck, and the way everything stacks at times is kind of ridiculous.
