Maybeboard

Marwyn's elfball EDH deck. Increase Marwyn's power playing elf creatures, generate a lot of mana, slam creatures and (maybe) win in the process :D

Combos

This deck have some combos, and most of them works with creatures that can generate more than three mana when tapped for mana and some card that can untap them for three mana. At least one mana is generated in this process, so infinite mana can be generated through this method.

Another combo that the deck can perform is Elvish Visionary, Temur Sabertooth, Wirewood Symbiote and some big mana generator elf (generating five or more mana). This combo consists on: tapping the elf for mana (5), return Elvish Visionary to hand with Symbiote (5), recast Visionary (3), tap the elf for mana (8), use Sabertooth ability to return Symbiote to hand (6), recast Symbiote (5) and repeat these steps (this is possible because when Symbiote enters the battlefield again, it is a new instance, and can use its ability again).

The Elvish Visionary is necessary to dig the entire deck to win the game, but this combo works without Visionary, generating infinite mana but drawing zero cards.

Creature cards

  • Arbor Elf: It's a simple dork but can be very powerful if it untaps a Forest enchanted with Elvish Guidance.

  • Beast Whisperer is an Elf that draws cards when you cast creature spells, which is common most of the time.

  • I personally don't like Copperhorn Scout a lot but it can be very powerful in some situations, like when you have Marwyn and another Elf with strong tap abilities.

  • Craterhoof Behemoth: It practically finishes the game if you have a board full of creatures.

  • Dwynen's Elite is a simple but effective card, putting two elves in the battlefield for just two mana.

  • Elvish Archdruid increases Marwyn's power in two and can do infinite mana combos as well.

  • Elvish Visionary draws cards, being a great option to return with Wirewood Symbiote, being even part of a combo with it and Temur Sabertooth.

  • Eternal Witness: It isn't an Elf but have an unique ability of getting back cards from the graveyard that justifies its use in an Elfball deck.

  • Ezuri, Renegade Leader: Protects another Elves and it's a wincon of the deck after doing any infinite mana loop.

  • Immaculate Magistrate: Tap it to increase Marwyn's power putting into it +1/+1 counters for each Elf you control.

  • Imperious Perfect: Increase the Marwyn's power in 2 and can generate Elf tokens, increasing her power further more.

  • Ivy Lane Denizen is an Elf that boosts Marwyn's power on future green creatures entering the battlefield.

  • Karametra's Acolyte isn't an Elf but can do the infinite mana combos that Marwyn can do.

  • Lys Alana Huntmaster to generate a lot of Elf tokens and stuff.

  • Oracle of Mul Daya ramps a lot. This deck can shuffle the library quite often, which increases this creature's potential.

  • Priest of Titania is very strong, doing all the mana generation and combos this deck wants.

  • Quirion Ranger have an amazing untap ability that can be used on opponents' turns as well. If it enters the battlefield again, it is a new instance, and you can use her ability again.

  • Regal Force is probably the best card draw in this deck and can be tutored with almost all the creature tutors of the deck.

  • Rishkar, Peema Renegade: It's an Elf an put counters onto creatures, including Marwyn. It costs 3, increase the Marwyn's power in 2 and put a counter into another creature. If that another creature isn't a mana-generating creature, Rishkar can virtually costs zero mana.

  • Seeker of Skybreak: Untap some Elf and... that's it.

  • Selvala, Heart of the Wilds: It's a "second Marwyn", doing all infinite combos that Marwyn can do. It will occasionally draw cards as well, but it is in the deck for this mana-production capability. The pro of this card against Marwyn is that can generate a lot of mana if you have a high-powered creature in play (Marwyn only look for it's own power). The con is that her ability is activated paying one green mana, which isn't always available.

  • Sylvan Ranger is just a low-cost Elf with some land filtering within it.

  • Temur Sabertooth: Can save creatures bouncing them and allows some infinite combos to happen with Elvish Visionary, Wirewood Symbiote and a big-mana production creature.

  • Timberwatch Elf can tap for boost Marwyn's power, making it a indirect mana dork.

  • Walking Ballista uses infinite mana to win the game pinging all opponents.

  • Wirewood Channeler is another infinite mana production elf.

  • Wirewood Herald can tutor any Elf when it dies, making it a "ok" option. And it's an Elf, boosting Marwyn's power when enters the battlefield.

  • Wirewood Symbiote can ave Elves from some removals and can untap big mana-production elves.

  • Woodland Bellower can tutor a lot of different creatures in this deck making it a great card.

Interactions

  • This deck have a lot of tutors like Green Sun's Zenith and Worldly Tutor. If you want to generate infinite mana and an infinite Walking Ballista, Worldly Tutor is the only tutor that can choose Walking Ballista.

  • Crop Rotation is a great land-tutor card. Usually it is used to tutor for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx if the board is full, Wirewood Lodge if some Elf can generate a lot of mana, Yavimaya Hollow if you want some protection and Centaur Garden if you have to increase Marwyn's power to loop with equipments like Sword of the Paruns.

  • Thousand-Year Elixir accelerates the tap abiities of the mana-production elves and increase the mana count untapping some big-mana production Elf like the commander itself.

  • Yavimaya Hollow can protect creatures, increasing the resilience of the deck.

  • Wirewood Lodge can untap a big mana-production Elf.

  • Garruk, Primal Hunter usually is an one-use card draw in the deck, but its +1 and -3 drawing three cards on the next turn is also ok.

  • Birthing Pod is a great tutor that gives the deck some on-demand responses or enables combos to happen. These are the most relevant creatures in each mana cost:

  • 0-cmc: Dryad Arbor, any token
  • 1-cmc: Quirion Ranger, Wirewood Symbiote
  • 2-cmc: Elvish Visionary, Priest of Titania, Wirewood Herald (if there's another way to sacrifice it)
  • 3-cmc: Eternal Witness, Ezuri, Renegade Leader, Reclamation Sage, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds
  • 4-cmc: Beast Whisperer, Karametra's Acolyte, Temur Sabertooth
  • 5-cmc: hmm... maybe this deck needs a 5-cmc creature =P
  • 6-cmc: Woodland Bellower
  • 7-cmc: Regal Force
  • 8-cmc: Craterhoof Behemoth

  • Dryad Arbor is here because it's a Forest (tutorable with fetchlands and Wood Elves) and is another turn-1 dork tutored with Green Sun's Zenith).

  • Finale of Devastation can tutor or reanimate creatures from the deck/graveyard. If you generate a lot of mana with Elves and lands, it can also buff creatures to a point that the game ends after combat damage is dealt.

  • Chord of Calling is a Instant-speed tutor that can get an answer then needed.

  • Shamanic Revelation draws a lot of cards and gains life occasionally.

  • Sylvan Library to card advantage and selection.

  • Centaur Garden is kinda a exquisite option for the deck. In some situations, Marwyn and some infinite mana equipment are in play but Marwyn's power is less than three (the infinite mana combos demands Marwyn having a power of 4 or more). Centaur Garden's threshold increase her power in three, making her power high enough to enabling her infinite combos.

  • Hunting Triad usually is a "one cost" Elf production spell. In rare scenarios (e.g. a player can counterspell you), the Reinforce is an viable option, increasing Marwyn's power in a more safer way. Elvish Promenade have a similar function in this deck.

  • Heroic Intervention gives the deck some protection from boardwipes or spot removals.

  • Umbral Mantle allows any creature that can generate more than three mana to infinite mana combo. If this creature can generate three mana, it can perform a +inf/+inf combo that can take a player out of the game with an attack. Sword of the Paruns works in the same way, except that demands more than three mana to be generated from a creature.

  • Beast Within is a catch-all removal.

  • Benefactor's Draught untaps everything (even opponents' creatures) and draws a card, possibly enabling some powerful strategies in the same turn it was cast. It's possible to draw a lot of cards with it but in rare situations (e.g. a player is chump blocking for not losing the game in a combat phase).

  • Green Sun's Zenith is a great tutor, tutoring things like big creatures or maybe a Dryad Arbor on early game, being another option that allows Marwyn enter the battlefield on turn 2.

  • Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury have good abilities in different situations, acting like a Elf generator, destroying some artifact or enchantment or drawing a lot of cards after three turns.

  • Sylvan Offering generates creatures for other players but the payoff of generating Elves for you usually worth this.

  • I like Harmonize for being a unconditional draw on green.

  • Asceticism provides a great resilience to the deck plan, protecting creatures from spot removals and, with some mana, from boardwipes.

  • Sensei's Divining Top can reorganize the top of the deck, digging deeper for wanted responses, optimizing Oracle of Mul Daya, etc.

  • Land Grant can filter the deck and get a Forest (including Dryad Arbor) for practically zero cost.

  • Being a commander deck, Guardian Project is practically a Glimpse of Nature-like card.

  • Tooth and Nail can get two creatures instead of one, grabbing missing parts of Temur Sabertooth and Elvish Visionary combo or Woodland Bellower + any creature, making it a three creature tutor card.
