Hunting Triad Discussion

Have you thought about Hardened Scales ? It seems like a better way to consistently add more counters to your creatures if that’s what you’re going for, and in the same vein Pir, Imaginative Rascal helps. Personally I’d put them in over one-shot effects like Hunting Triad . Also, Contagion Engine and Doubling Season are both very good value engines here, with the engine providing the added bonus of eventually removing opponent’s creatures. On top of that you can proliferate experience counters, so things like Karn's Bastion could be very potent. Personally, I think that Spawnwrithe , Whirler Rogue and Patagia Viper could easily be replaced by these effects. Also, have you considered running Chain of Vapor instead of or alongside Sidisi's Faithful ? It gives you the added benefit of permanent bounce and possibly putting your opponents a land behind if they choose to retaliate. Finally, Birds of Paradise could definitely replace Arbor Elf because you aren’t running things like Utopia Sprawl , so the color fixing and flying creature far outweigh the elf creature type for Priest of Titania . Sorry for the long message, just got a lot of ideas all at once. Good luck in the league, I’m playing Kami of the Crescent Moon as of now!

I'd cut Hunting Triad , Llanowar Scout , Sprouting Renewal , Blunt the Assault , Defend the Hearth , Fog , Pause for Reflection , and Root Snare fogs aren't as good as you think. It just buys you a turn without dealing with any threats

Also, I'm always a little wary of Eladamri, Lord of Leaves . Shroud is both awesome and can be really annoying too. Sometimes it's real helpful to be able to target your own stuff. So for example you use the reinforce effect from Hunting Triad and you wanna use it on Joraga Warcaller to get an extra bump, or Marwyn, the Nurturer to up your mana production, you can't. Just a personal feel on that one I guess lol

I did some testing with my friends on cockatrice, and I agree with you now that Hunting Triad is too expensive to be worth having in the deck. (Unless I build some mana ramp which doesn't really fit the deck.) I like the look of Essence Warden though! I'll try it out along with some other cards and see what I end up.

Again, having played some more, I agree with you regarding lands that come in tapped. They slow you down a bit too much. At least while playing over cockatrice I'll switch to "faster lands", and I'll probably pick up at least a few Woodland Cemetery when I purchase a deck.

If I have Marwyn, the Nurturer on the battlefield and cast Sylvan Offering with X=3 (or Hunting Triad), does Marwyn get a single +1/+1 counter, or 3?

HansRun I'm not sure. I've been considering Marwyn. It is kind of interesting with Ivy Lane Denizen and just playing elves. It might also work with meatyorologist's Hunting Triad if I run that. I like the idea behind it a lot as is synergizes with several of the stated goals.

Honestly, tho, none of the recent printings have piqued my interest, but maybe I'm missing something new? Any suggestions?

Hi! I run an Elf deck, as well, and it's quite strong (managed to get a turn 4 245-damage win today), and it has gone through many iterations. So I have some experience with Elves. Here is that deck, if you want to check it out for inspiration.

First thing I would do is probably up your land count by at least two. I run 18, myself, with 20 mana dorks in the deck. There's a ton of mana generation but even then, 18 lands is pretty low. You only need one or two to pop off, but you want to have some kind of backup.

Second, I'd find room for Dwynen's Elite. After a lot of testing I actually just use it in place of Nettle Sentinel because it combos so much better with Heritage Druid and, now, Marwyn.

Collected Company is immensely powerful with all this mana, and I highly recommend finding room for at least a couple, if not four. Also, Lead the Stampede isn't flashy, but in such a creature-heavy deck, it's an extremely efficient way to refill your hand.

I love Nissa, but I'm not sure she's necessary for Elves. Life gain isn't used except for countering burn or the mirror, and there are easier ways to do that, I think. You definitely want a more reliable way to put out Ezuri, so CoCo and/or LTS are good for that. You have the Harbinger, too, but we want something a little more consistent. You might consider upping your count of Ezuri, for that matter.

I love the Immaculate Magistrate + Joraga Warcaller combo, too. Used it for a while. But in the end, it's slow and fairly easily stopped. Also, CoCo (which you will want to use) doesn't hit the Magistrate. Another reason CoCo is so good is because you can do it on your opponent's end step, throw out something like an Elvish Archdruid, and have it ready to go on your next turn.

Instead of or in addition to Elvish Promenade, maybe consider Hunting Triad. The nice part is that the reinforce ability doesn't count as casting so it can't be easily countered. You can either put out 3 tokens to power up Elvish Archdruid, or put the counters directly on Joraga Warcaller to pump up all your Elves.

These are just a few basic ideas to start with. Take a look at my deck for some more ideas, especially on the sideboard, and I'll post again with some more ideas soon.
