HAPATRA, VIZIER OF POISONS - MEAN SNAKE CULT V.1.0 (6/5/23)

Creating a deck based on one of the legendary decks from the late Shawn Boone. The man that got one of my best friends involved in Magic, and in turn that friend got me involved in Magic. Shawn was in a league of his own in our group, and I've never seen a player as proficient as he was. He passed away from the first wave of Covid-19, and years later I still love deck building. I won't say this deck project is being constructed in his honor or something cheesy, but I do intend to apply all I've learned in deckbuilding the last four or five years into this. I have a Braids deck that got a lot of love, and is very tuned up. I'm hoping between all the research I'm doing, and the build tests I will go through, this baby will be half as good as Shawn's.

COMBOS / INTERACTIONS:

Young Wolf + -1/-1 Counters = Repeatable Death Triggers / Snek Generation | Undying states that as long as the creature does not have a +1/+1 counter when it dies, return it to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter. Since we have ample ways to add -1/-1 counters to remove that +1/+1 the Undying triggers again, and again creating Sneks when we add that -1/-1 counter, and protecting other creatures we would not want to add -1/-1 counters to.

Culling Ritual + Torment of Hailfire = Enormous (Unexpected) Torment of Hailfire | Timing is the key for this combo, for the low low price of four mana, you can take the board state that is around you and turn it into a win condition. If you have an army of Sneks even better. Each non-land permanent with mana value 2 or less (meaning sneks and other creature tokens) that gets blown up due to Culling Ritual adds either green or black mana per permanent blown up. This will clean up any easy permanent sacrifices for the next bit... Pile this into Torment of Hailfire, and considering your own board state with sneks (even just five or six sneks can be gamechanging considering the other players and your own smaller permanents) can become out of control very fast, you can mop up the entire game ridiculously fast.

Carnifex Demon + Natural Affinity = Destroy All Lands / New Snek Army | This one is particularly mean. Carnifex Demon should come onto the battlefield after casting Natural Affinity, as warning bells will be firing off due to his ability to weaken everyone's creature state, but, I suppose it can go both ways. You want to ensure Carnifex Demon has 2 -1/-1 counters on it, and at least two black mana to activate his ability (which can be done at instant speed) to add those two counters to all creatures after casting Natural Affinity (which can also be done at instant speed), yes, you too will lose your lands, but, you will gain an army of sneks, and that could be enough to seal a win when your opponents cannot generate mana to counter your snek army.
