Cultist of the Absolute

Legendary Enchantment — Background

Commander creatures you own get +3/+3 and have flying, deathtouch, "Ward—Pay 3 life," and "At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice a creature." (Whenever a creature with ward becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter it unless that player pays the ward cost.)

Collected Company is one of the better cards in a deck like this.

If you run Green Sun's Zenith, I think you should run Dryad Arbor 100% of the time. Having the option to 1 mana ramp tutor as needed is the best in the game, even if it's fragile.

If you want to do the whole tap ten elves thing Benefactor's Draught, Vitalize, and Mobilize are useful. And as long as you're using mana dorks, they are good throughout the game. Birchlore Rangers is also a good mana dork for getting either color as needed if it matters. Like some of the others you have it can use creatures with summoning sickness.

Add Regal Force, you'll have the mana, and it draws infinity. Toski, Bearer of Secrets is also amazing at this.

Consider Patriarch's Bidding for when your ridiculous board state earns the response it will deserve. Also Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant

I cant build a green/black deck without Gaze of Granite and Pernicious Deed. They are great

Timberwatch Elf for the commander, or maybe Gempalm Strider might be better than Overrun. Trample isnt so important with so many creatures that will likely outnumber blockers, and the extra card from cycling and utility of another creature is worth considering. Ezuri, Renegade Leader is already in your deck and he's definitely the best option though. Beastmaster Ascension also works like a really inexpensive overun and turns on really easily.

Some of the green and black backgrounds area awesome Criminal Past, Cultist of the Absolute, Haunted One and Raised by Giants will stick around for the next cast even after your commander gets removed.

Consider Constant Mists or even instead of Fog, however I really don't think you need any of the fog effects. Honestly, you might actually need to worry about other people's fogs instead. Questing Beast is the only card that is capable of piercing though a Teferi's Protection or The One Ring in these colors. THrow in a Natural Order and you can get that, or a Craterhoof Behemoth when it matters most

Viridian Zealot, Reclamation Sage, Nullmage Shepherd, and Elvish Lyrist are useful for removal. You already have Glissa, but I dont think she's enough.

Elvish Champion might be your best lord. Pair it with Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth. Also definitely want to add Shizo, Death's Storehouse. Having lathril connect is important.

If you keep the tyvar planeswalkers, Harald Unites the Elves does a lot.

Kithkin Mourncaller might draw cards to use with your excessive mana. Leaf-Crowned Visionary, Skemfar Avenger, Miara, Thorn of the Glade do too, at a cost.

consider Crop Rotation. It can get nythkos, yavimaya.

Looking at your list you have almost nothing that turns on lathril in combat. look at Alpha Authority, Familiar Ground, Alpha Status, Gift of Doom, Rancor, Spider Umbra, Alpha Authority, Canopy Cover, Vorrac Battlehorns. Fallen Ideal is possibly my favorite with the die/sacrifce synergies you already have. Im not a fan of token doublers. I think youd be better off powering up lathril to make more tokens in the first place.

I would dump any ramp card that costs more than 3

@ KayneMarco sure thing! Thank you for your questions.

Sisay, Weatherlight Captain base power is 2/2 and she "gets +1/+1 for each color among other legendary permanents you control." Cultist of the Absolute is a black legendary permanent so +1/+1. Furthermore Cultist of the Absolute's text box says "Commander creatures you own get +3/+3..."

2+1+3=6

The advantage of running the Cultist of the Absolute and Chromatic Orrery line is that you do not need to start with Bloom Tender / Faeburrow Elder instead you only need mana dorks / mana rocks / lands that tap for .

Cultist of the Absolute makes it so Sisay can fetch Dihada, Binder of Wills who produces the treasure to activate Sisay again and makes it so Sisay is big enough to fetch Chromatic Orrery. Orrery then acts as a replacement for Bloom Tender / Faeburrow Elder as it makes it so "You may spend mana as though it were mana of any color" and it taps for .

Hey, well done so far upgrading the precon.

Some Elf upgrades to consider:

Copperhorn Scout pairs well with Immaculate Magistrate or Timberwatch Elf to have a repeatable untap effect to make Lathril huge when you attack with Elves. With Immaculate since the counters stay on the creature then can keep Scout and Lathril huge. Fauna Shaman repeatable tutor effect can be useful with Elves that are not impactful enough in the game to tutor for a more impactful creature. Fauna brings a toolbox effect with Elves since she can get any creature and untap effects work really well with her to chain tutor.

Elvish Harbinger and Circle of Dreams Druid are much more price then the Elves you could cut for them, but they're among the better Elves in the tribe. Circle is another mass mana combo Elf, it's Gaea's Cradle effect and Harbinger is an Elf tutor that's also a mana Elf who can make black mana. Elvish Guidance isn't an Elf, but it's another mass mana effect and after enchanting a Forest pair with Arbor Elf.

Some nonElf upgrades to consider:

Staff of Domination is most powerful artifact with Elves since it can make infinite green mana with any of the mass mana Elves (Priest, Archdruid, Circle, Marwyn, etc.) if they can make at least 5 mana. Infinite green is then paid into Staff to draw as much of your deck as you want to find Ezuri wincon or to get at least 10 Elves in your control. Lathril's tap 10 Elves to make each opponent lose 10 life can be a wincon with Staff since Staff can infinite untap Lathril and 10 Elves.

Cultist of the Absolute is busted with Lathril for only 1 mana. Without any other boost to p/t it makes Lathril a 5/6 flying/deathtouch/menace threat. The combination of having menace and deathtouch makes combat a nightmare for opponent. Lathril provides the creature sac fodder that's needed to fuel Absolute. Patriarch's Bidding is mass reanimation of Elves for 5 mana.

Door of Destinies isn't a good anthem effect card since it doesn't pump anything without casting an Elf the same turn you play it meaning need more than 4 mana to get any value at all. For 4 mana you can do much better if an anthem effect is what you want.

Some land upgrades to consider:

Over a couple of turns Rogue's Passage alone with Lathril can build you an Elf army, that's pretty good for a land. Twilight Mire for 1 green mana can make BB and that's helpful when green mana is much more plentiful than black mana, but black mana is also important.

Woodland Chasm is another Golgari dual land that Verdant or Wood to get. Blooming Marsh will rarely ETB untapped making it much worse land then it appears especially for it's price. Fast lands are better in formats where you can play 4x of them for consistency of having them the first three turns of a game. Fast lands are overpriced dual lands in Commander.

Good luck with your deck.

I also found that Cultist of the Absolute, Alpha Authority, and Alpha Status also work well in Lathril.

Hey, well done for a first deck on a budget. Good job adding more one drop mana Elves and Ezuri :)

Sol Ring, Elvish Archdruid and Command Tower are missing. All are excellent budget cards for this deck. Lathril's 2/3 base p/t with menace is not enough to reliably do much Commander damage without help. Consider expanding on three directions you can go to give Lathril help?

  • More Elf lords and other anthem effects to increase her p/t.
  • More +1/+1 counters sources or pump until end of turn to increase her p/t.
  • Effects, Auras or Equipment that increases p/t and/or provide more evasion for attacking.

Playing a combination of all these can increase the consistency of support for Lathril doing Commander damage.

Elvish Archdruid and Tyvar Kell are very good tribal cards for Elves. Cultist of the Absolute for one mana is one of the most powerful ways to help Lathril, 5/6 p/t with tons of evasion. The combination of flying, deathtouch and menace makes Lathril a scary threat who opponents aren't going to want to block. Deathtouch with menace is a great combination of abilities because any creature who blocks Lathril will die in combat. Lathril provides token creature fodder to pay the sac cost of Cultist at your upkeep.

Elderfang Venom and Thunderfoot Baloth evasion applies to all Elves you control and that can be helpful for big attacks with token Elves. It can improve gameplay when you can get beneficial effects from lands that help your Commander.

Some changes to consider:

Panharmonicon is an expensive price card here that's really not doing much because you have some creature enter the battlefield (ETB) effects, but not enough to play a four drop card to increase them. Titania, Nature's Force is fun card for Elementals, but she doesn't really belong with Lathril as Commander.

Good luck with your deck.

Plus you can pair it with Cultist of the Absolute so

Mana Echoes would be really funny with all the Kobolds dropping. Might also have the potential to go infinite if you have a sack outlet and something like Chromatic Orrery.

Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia is a card I've seen cropping up a lot lately as well. It seems to be pretty decent, creating a consistent slew of Zombies. Ophiomancer is another decent option.

Triumph of the Hordes would make dealing lethal damage more than twice as easy, and it would work well with Doubling Season (another good card for your deck).

Cultist of the Absolute is a massive stat boost.

Mass Hysteria might be able to replace Hammer, but I'm not sure if you want to risk making your opponents have that option.

Finally, Garruk's Uprising gives some good card advantage plus the added bonus of trample which is something Prossh lacks. Rancor could also work to the same effect.
