Corrosive Mentor Discussion

Zimmers_0 on Dwayne Johnson's Final Form

Daedalus19876 Hot damn thats a lot of good suggestions.

Chain Reaction and Blasphemous Act were removed for more spot removal. This way I can keep my creatures. I probably will take your advice and switch it out for Chandra's Ignition. I have that in this deck for a creature with wither so its like a -1/-1 wipe. Or maybe for Decree of Pain.

Fists of the Demigod and Festering Mummy/the little -1's were removed due to better options. The fist would be mostly for adding wither to my creatures which isnt that great in comparisons to Corrosive Mentor as I only have 4 red creatures.

Sneak Attack might have a place but Heartless Summoning is going to kill to many of my creatures and lowers my wither -1's. But Heartstone might be fun! ill playtest.

Horobi, Death's Wail will most likely be added due to the spot removal and the wheel affects will be added. But only the draw 7 ones. Same with Spontaneous Combustion. I didnt even know this was a card!

I think im going to steer away from Spitebellows/Ingot Chewer/Shriekmaw. They are fun! But kinda out of the burn idea.

Great suggestions as always Daedalus19876!

I would take out Corrosive Mentor because it will only give a maximum of six creatures wither. I would put in Nest of Scarabs or Crumbling Ashes.

Thanks for your comment GodCyphus!I get what you're saying, but I noticed that having Crumbling Ashes on the board put's a lot of pressure on my opponant. Especcialy in combination with Corrosive Mentor, Necroskitter and Nest of Scarabs. Because I don't have a lot of removal spells, Crumbling Ashes gives me a solid removal base.

Do you think that focussing on more scarabs is worth losing this constant pressure? Second Harvest and Coat of Arms are great cards, but in order for them to work I have to have a decent amount of scarabs allready on the board. Maybe Parallel Lives as an alternative?

A lot of the cards on your Maybeboard seem to have a slightly different focus to the general concept of the deck. If it's focused on using Nest of Scarabs I would lighten up on things like Crumbling Ashes, as the deck should be mostly focused on hitting with a lot of creatures. I would suggest cards like Second Harvest, which allow you to get even more insects to hit even more, and then cards like Coat of Arms which could strengthen them to do a lot of damage. And with Corrosive Mentor out on the field, blocking them will just result in even more insects.

I could totally see that working, I'll replace Cinderbones with Corrosive Mentor, and I can replace Twinblade Slasher with Coat of Arms. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey, I'm thinking about building a similar deck.

I was thinking about adding Corrosive Mentor, giving all your black insect tokens wither. In other words, when they die and put a -1-1 counter on a creature, Nest of Scarabs creates a new token. I've been playing around for a few days now and I've found that Coat of Arms is deadly when you have the corrosive mentor and nest of scarabs in play.
